Me over here still waiting for Ducati to wake up and release a refreshed sports classic.
Interesting. Rumour has it Ducati is making a new V-Twin sportsbike that will replace both the Supersport & the V2. It will also supposedly be cheaper than the Supersport S & V2 which are similarly priced so maybe standard Supersport money. Apparently it will be more sporty than the Supersport but less so than the V2, at least in bhp, if not chassis & intent. I wonder if they're going to just hike the capacity to a 1000cc but in a relatively low state of tune. Also a good chance it's going to be more road than track orientated imo & ultimately be a sporty sports tourer. Either way I'm definitely interested to see what EICMA brings.
Yes 1,000cc 140hp
@@morri03 Agreed. That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Sounds perfect to me.
I dont think they need to go downmarket on price. Im not saying to upmarket. Id argue to keep pricing static across the line and let inflation take care of the "cost" Ducati is a premium asperational brand. You bring that downmarket to the peasants and you have no more reason for ppl like me to spend money on product some ass hat just bought. Porsche would never produce a Honda Civic fighter. (ha that would be interested right) My point remains. It will turn into an all market brand like Mercedes in Europe. They produce crap cars to the cars you and i know as Mercs here, the brand doesn't have the same feel over there because of that.
@@aurorajones8481 The operative word here is cheaper, not cheap, in any sense of the word. As mentioned, supposedly basic Supersport price. To be clear I have no insider knowledge, just what I've picked up trawling the net so could be BS. However, it's a reasonable supposition if it's replacing both the Supersport & V2. There's also the option for an upgraded S etc where they can go to town. Having a more road focused version & separate more track orientated model, with better suspension, brakes, & if required, lower clip-ons etc, would definitely make sense.
If this is true then I'm very interested
Great analysis as always Sir Bob. Will be a shame to see the Quadro diluted to a homogeneous do it all replacement. It was a special and sophisticated unit. But I guess that’s progress, or so they will have us think... Thanks. G.
I'll give up 8 hp if they use hydraulic valve adjustment!
👌😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Fack yeah !

I would be sad to see desmodromic system eclipse. An advanced desmodromic system would be ideal!
I found your channel as I was making a delivery next door to your studio, really enjoying the content and great to see a local creator. Well done.
I like that they are making the v2 look diff from the v4. I personally don't like the two being the same. I still want an unmolested Panigale stock mill in the V4 multi RS with 210 hp shorten this stroke a bit for a lower ride and you have a REAL pure lifted sports bike. Which is what i want. Which doesn't exist ATM.
Because it makes no sense. Same way a 170hp "touring" bike makes no sense as is. Euro bike manufacturers are completely wack at the top of the range.
A small V4 would be my dream! Just put the non-desmo Engine in the Streetfighter :)
How about a 170hp multistrada v4
As someone who owns a 950 multistrada facing 1.000 pound desmo service I would be glad to see the back of the desmo engine.
why did you buy it if you cant afford to maintain it?
@@mrfrosty42 obviously I can afford to service it it's just a little eye watering compared to other makes
No more timing belts to worry about? I could go for it so long as performance isn’t down!
I hope they make a new V-twin platform - makes sense to gather all 2-cylinders on same new updated platform. Convenient for Ducati, and we all get a new engine. The supersport 950 ain’t that relaxed thought :P if you want it shine, put it on a track and put it in sport mode.. it’ll wheelie and be lively ;)
Of course mate! But relative to a Panigale V2 👍
The L2's of the '70ies didn't all have desmo. That was a thing of marketing from the late 70's onwards. So if there are Duc engines in L2 form , they're probably going to cater for the 10'000 milers, entry -levellers, mid-weighters, who want an everyday bike with something special ,style, italianita, but without the hassle .
Looking forward to Eicma......
They should reserve DESMO strictly for their race bikes.
Street and Road bikes, make their valvetrain coil spring type. And if they feel inspired and throw hydraulic lifters in a couple of them, that would be even better.
I want to ride more and wrench a lot less.
That's something that Harley beats all others, hands down.
Too bad they mostly build heavy cross country cruisers with antiquated engine tech (air-oil cooled, multi piece crank, separated transmission and clutch, 3 different drain and fill holes, et al).
If they're going away with the desmo valves, then it needs to be on the Desert X asap.
As a V2s owner this new update looks interesting 😎👍
Just put the 170hp v4 from multistrada in a super sport to create an epic sport touring bike. It’s literally a proper touring engine with 37,000mile service interval and would be epic in a lighter super sport.
They will do a aprillia, take the V4 engine, cut it in half and increase the displacement to 1000ish cc, probably just bellow.
@@luko560 I think he means cut it from a V4 (4 cylinders) to a V2( 2 cylinders) and increase the cc from 950 to 1000cc and use springs to close the valves rather than the current method.
@@luko560same way half of a v4 1077 became a 660, it’s called engineering
@@luko560 I meant having all the infromation from it rather than redeveloping from scratch. Especially because those new Multi V4 engines are super nice, and the service intervals are insane, would be a great platform to build up from.
Looks like a mini V4 engine, very interesting if these are actually real Ducati pictures. The current V2S is very stale from a faring and dash perspective. The 939 however is a great motor just not in the Multistrada. So if this is a new Ducati power-plant I am interested as the V4 is just to big and bulky.
It will likely make more power to keep up with KTM's 990 at 120hp. I'm all for that, especially with longer service intervals - as long as they keep it as an L-Twin.
Still on 19 inch wheels? Bummer, would love to see the V2 on 17s
oh ew, get a diff bike then. the whole "lets complain about 19s" is so lame at this point. its hard to find 19s anymore and if you want to size up, you have to mod your bike.
YUP, screw that front 19" tractor wheel.
I want a lifted sport bike, not some groomed and packed gravel, heavy Princess Off Roader wanna be.
Why do I have to pay more (Pikes Peak, RS) to get what until a few years back was standard equipment ?
Fack Ducati and the standard 19" front wheel Chicken Strada.
That will be a later RS version…
@@astrofeeder777 19" is just straight up dumb. it just makes it shit on road. no one is taking their multi to dirt. you want a true ADV dirt bike they make the desert X.
If they made an RS version of a multi V2 with 17" front wheel that would be cool. But I think a 19" front wheel as standard makes the most sense in most cases. I have an old ('18) Supersport and it does actually hit the "everyday sportbike" design brief pretty nicely but when I replace it a Multi V2 is top of list. Test rode a 2022 Multi V2S when they fist came out (tested the Multi v4s with 19" front, and a used 1200s with 17" wheels on the same day): I thought the larger front wheel on the Multi v2 smoothed out the potholes and road cracks better than the 17" on my SS. I also didn't find any issues with cornering or flickability of the 19" on the Multi v2s.The wide bars on the Multi were more weird-feeling than the front wheel difference I think. I'd be happy with either front wheel size I think as there's a trade off with either, and depending on your roads one may be preferable to the other.
Also, I don't think it was mentioned but the new Multi v2 would likely use a monocoque aluminum frame, woudn't it?
Ducati, here's an idea you can have for free! Adjustable handlebars. VERY adjustable handlebars. Handlebars that can go from race bike low to naked bike high with the flick of a few locking levers in 20 seconds at the side of the road while I'm sat on the bike. These would be perfect for a bike to replace the V2 and Supersport. You get comfort for town and touring, and proper feel and connection when going for it in the twisties.
You're welcome.
how? you either have clip-ons for race/supersport or regular handlebars for street bikes.
@@fs5866 It's not that hard to imagine. I can think of 2 different designs that could work, but they would be very hard to explain without pictures. I'm positive an actual design engineer could figure it out very easily.
@@fs5866moto guzzi did in the 70’s. Though you couldn’t adjust them at the side of the road in 20 seconds
My 2006 ST3 has adjustable clip ons. Approximately 2 inches of up and down adjustment. They aren't quick adjust but easily could be.
I love Ducati and for this reason, I say they should lose the Five Nights at Freddie’s bird head look. It’s ridiculous this actually exists.
I hung with some people that called it The Chicken Strada.😂
Very cool. GO PACK GO!
0:53 MotoGP was ALWAYS V4, they never "introduced" it. And we are talking 2003, it took 15 years from the first MotoGP bike to get it on road bikes.
I think you are confusing with Aluminum frames, where they introduced in MotoGP very close to the same timing of the release of the Panigale 1199
Ducati Desmosedici RR 2007-2008.
The super sports need revitalising I remember the st2/3 great bikes there is. A huge gap for sports tourers
ducati shoebill stork
My hope : New Multistrada V2 and ST V4 model with automatic clutch
I'm not saying it's the only thing holding me back, but that maintenance is a total deal-breaker. If they could come up with hydraulic valves like Harley did that would be wonderful and I'd give up some horsepower for that too. I just want a bike I can keep for a long time and don't have to pay out the ass for maintenance
Is this new Multi V2s a bike that will likely be released at Eicma 2024 or seems in early in testing? Love ya content BOB!
Yeah, just use springs Ducati.
Ask whether or not over 50% of your fan base even understands what a valve is.
Would love to know how much performance difference does a desmo make in comparison to regular valve springs?
All the hype around desmo seems a bit lame now.
@@shonith91 Originally it had to do with allowing valve open-and-close velocities that were outside traditional spring allowances at the time of development. You could open the valve sooner, open the valve further, and close it faster than the performance of a spring, especially at high engine RPM. Valve spring technology has come an extremely long way in dealing with weight, response, natural spring frequency, and other issues. It's made the cost and complexity of Desmo by comparison more of a traditionalist issue than any overall performance advantage. You can achieve more with Desmo probably, under limited operating conditions, but at what cost to the company and the customers?
@@exothermal.sprocket Pretty good observation. There is an advantage to desmo valves, still. The cam profiles the guys at Ducati build into their Panigale and Streetfighter engines are insane, springs would have a hard time today as well, not speaking of the 46.8mm valves in the 1299 Superquadro engine with 16mm intake valve lift. But as you said, limited operating conditions that are hardly needed on the road (and not even on the track for us normal people). But people will want it nevertheless.
@@MichaelKobler-yu6fy It's becoming a smaller and smaller advantage due to value technology also improving, such as titanium and sodium filled hollow valves, and the understanding of how to get the combustion heat away/off valves without cooking the valve seats.
@@exothermal.sprocket The intake valves on the 1299 are titanium, still the cam profiles are borderline for a mass-produced engine. Sodium does not really help in weight savings nor stiffness (rather the contrary), but in heat transfer. No idea if there are combined titanium/sodium filled valves though, as titanium has a pretty shitty thermal conductivity to begin with.
3:45 Is that a VVT Actuator kick out on the intake cam side ?
Could be a position sensor
@@jonasbaine3538 Cam Position Sensors are tiny nowadays.
And on motorcycles usually intruding thru the valve cover side.
That lump looks more like what OEMs do to accommodate bulky Cam Phasers.
@@GIGABACHI yes now that you mention it, it does look similar to the cam phaser on my mustang 5.0 engine
Thank you
I want a new styled street fighter v2
Let's see what Ducati will bring to Multistrada V2 ❤😊.
They’re going to make a new V2 that makes more than 160hp to go racing bottom line
Maybe they are using it as a test platform for different components of the 850cc requirement for MotoGP in 2027
@motobob thx for sharing your ideas! Ducati please increase the torque at low reves. In the past main reason for not buying a Multistrada…
Prob they only have until 2035 to sell a new ICE engine
Desmo valves need to go. It's the only reason I haven't bought a Ducati.
Desmo valves are not the problem. The non-hackable maintenance alerts based on mileage and time (ANNUALLY), really ticked me off. One of the many reasons I unloaded my troublesome Desert-X.
@@brucerossonthetubetotally understandable. I get that Ducati has to make garbage maintenance cycles or else their dealers will drop them, but can we please get a break on at least one bike? They need to make one volume bike to get people into the brand. Give me a supersport with simple maintenance and I might buy a panagale one day.
@@brucerossonthetube There must be someone, somewhere that sells a hand held computer that lets you reset your engine oil life and all the other idiot warning lights . . . right ?
This has been going on for a while in the automotive world, can't be much harder to replicate with motorcycles, I imagine.
@GIGABACHI Ducati have been playing this game as far back as my 2010 Multistrada, but that one was do-able. Now when they sell you a bike they feel entitled to rip you off every year going forward. At the time that I sold my Desert-X there was no hack available.
Why ducati is ditching their twin cylinder in favor of V4 while the rest of motorcycle manufacures are doing opposite, for example, Suzuki ,Yamaha and honda are coincidently replacing their incline-4 bike GSXR750, YZF-R6, old CB600 Hornet with new P-twin layout bikes such as GSX8R, YZF-R7 and New CB750 Hornet.
Ducati is a premium manufacturer so can charge for their premium models that’s why. Also they aren’t ditching the v2, all their entry level models are twins
You're never gonna get any high performance out of those parallel twins though from the japanese.
do ppl tell you, you have jewish looks?
