I know it's just a joke, but if the area sees lots of heavy snow, it's likely that the nose simply snapped off under the weight of snow that piled on top of it given its deteriorating condition. The nose is probably the weakest point on the statue and, with time, more parts would probably fall off.
Dude SEGA (of America atleast) love the old stuff like this! I’m sure if we asked them or, made a big enough noise I’m POSITIVE they would do something to save it!
I'm not sure if the decision to place the statue in the forest was a good idea. On one hand, it could give more attention to the character of Sonic the hedgehog. On the other, it's a unique piece of video game memorabilia on one of the most popular characters of all time that has lost a great amount of value due to damages.
I so desperately want to see this statue get preserved, it's such a good looking one and it very well may be the only one of its kind, which means if we want future generations to see it, preservation is of the utmost importance. It's also a part of the history of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and too often we see important pieces of a franchise's history become lost to time and then eventually become forgotten completely. I don't want that to happen to this statue, nor to any other remaining pieces of Sonic's history, because this franchise is very important to me and is close to my heart, so I want to see it last as long as physically possible, even if it's just in random pieces like this it's better than becoming lost forever, irretrievably gone.
Sonicfan1661 Maybe Sega themselves can fix it and instead of a Sonic & Knuckles sign on the bottom they could put a Sonic Mania sign to promote Sonic Mania (& Knuckles)
Joe Christo Nah, I'd want them to repair and preserve the original paint and decals, if they made a replica to promote Mania I'd be perfectly fine with that. This potentially one of a kind statue deserves to not be altered beyond its original design.
Nice to meet you. I am Japanese of Sonic fans for over 20 years. Thank you for posting valuable videos. I live in Miyagi Prefecture. Mie prefecture is far away, I know the place where this statue is, but I have never actually seen it. I would like to see it soon. There is an accommodation facility called "Kodera Sanso (Kodera Mountain retreat)" at the end of the forest road behind the statue, which is my expectation but I think that it is a accommodation facility for officials of Sega. So, after the "Sega World Kadoma" closed, I think that Sonic's statue moved to that place.Again, thank you so much for posting valuable videos.
Yeah. With such a recognizable and beloved video game character, you'd think people would take care of it with something like that. In my opinion, it belongs in a museum.
Strange, isn't it? It's like a sign of what the entire Sonic Franchise is currently like: slowly decaying, barely hanging by a thread, and yet it's still possible to save it. Also, in the GG version of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic didn't have a nose . . . . .

Damn, there's something so magical about this... It's like an statue of a fallen hero, the only one who was a match for Mario, the great monarch of videogames. After years of fierce battles in the "bit wars" and amazing games, he just couldn't keep up. Nintendo remained victorious, and Sonic fell into the never ending downward spiral of edginess. Gone but not forgotten, someone somewhere will always remember classic Sonic games tenderly.
Excellent video. I would gladly chip in to a crowdfunding campaign to restore the statue. Imagine driving down that road in the snow and suddenly seeing Sonic snowboarding! Way past cool!
I wonder if someone would be able to purchase the statue and do it up again. Or even if someone from the area came to fix most of it. It'd be a shame to see it crumble away
@@lombaxalot Yeah exactly it's just a statue too, its not actually real if the statue breaks it breaks, even so the statue will just get stolen anyways, I mean dont get me wrong it's a cool statue and something I would own but at the same time I mean I'm not gonna treat it like a person.
I think this statue represents Sonic's reputation in the gaming industry: Still intact and alive after a long time, but is in the state of almost breaking down and become a forgotten legacy.
Wow, what a state that statue’s in although it could be a lot worse, it could have been destroyed. I love these types of videos, they’re a lot different from your usual type and very interesting. Can’t wait to see the next!
There will be more videos like this in the future, I'll also be discussing other games a lot more since I'm really interest in game design and writing across all games... And I just cannot afford or have space for lots of merch these days =(
I think Sonic should stay there and be a symbol for the people of that area, maybe somebody will pick him up, fix him, and put em back. Sonic belongs there in his very own Green Hill Zone.
@@joechristo2 They shouldn't, because what it used to,and still says,is history,so therefore if they were to tamper with it,it spiritually and historically wouldn't be the same. It's like graffiti on a finished painting.
I hope this can lead to the owners being contacted and they agree to preservation or repairs to halt its deterioration, even if done or paid by the Sonic community. The owners may not even realize how famous the model is and all the work that has been put into finding it over the years. Now the the location has been revealed we should look forward to even higher quality photos and videos.
I remember seeing this Sonic statue 11 years ago, boy I was surprised to seeing that statue there looking nice and cool with the sonic nose still there, It was the Most Shocking exciting moment for me to SEE.
I just watched chilly’s video on this and when she went sonic was noseless. But in 2009 his nose was still intact. I wonder what happened to it? ( pause video at 3:06 and 2:15 for the comparison)
SegaDreamCast your profile picture goes so well with this comment, It's like Mighty and Knuckles are having a great laugh about Sonic's unfortunate situation with his nose.
No, but due to the shape, the area closer to his face is likely to rust first, which would make it much less stable. A stick, an animal, the nose's own weight, etc. Could knock it off if the base rusted first.
@@AstroTibs I see what you mean, but if it were just broken by wear and tear rather than a person, I wouldn't really consider it being broken off over just worn off.

Link fought mario
What, there was no match for Mario
@@defli6645 But, they were both nintendo

What does the sign next to it say? There is also a dirt track behind it that leads up to a building, are they the owners of the statue?

Excellent video. I would gladly chip in to a crowdfunding campaign to restore the statue. Imagine driving down that road in the snow and suddenly seeing Sonic snowboarding! Way past cool!
This is so sad. Alexa, sculpt a sonic nose.
Are we just going to ignore how different the backgrounds of the two images are?
I wonder if someone would be able to purchase the statue and do it up again. Or even if someone from the area came to fix most of it. It'd be a shame to see it crumble away
Everyone we need Yuji Naka to fix our boy Sonic

Remember the restoration of that painting of Jesus? 🤔
@@seymourkrelborn4780 True, but I don't think a little cleaning off and light re-painting would monkey-ify Sonic...
Maybe Sega themselves can try to fix the statue and also change the Sonic & Knuckles sign on the bottom to a Sonic Mania sign to promote Sonic Mania
He should be taken inside and protected from nature
Sonic Hates being indoors. The wind & Nature is his first love.
Sonic is a freedom lover , he hates being cooped up.But the guy needs to recover for at least five days in a nice warm house.

Why do you guys treat the statue like its real? You can just repair it
@@lombaxalot Yeah exactly it's just a statue too, its not actually real if the statue breaks it breaks, even so the statue will just get stolen anyways, I mean dont get me wrong it's a cool statue and something I would own but at the same time I mean I'm not gonna treat it like a person.
I think this statue represents Sonic's reputation in the gaming industry: Still intact and alive after a long time, but is in the state of almost breaking down and become a forgotten legacy.
Gabriel Calderon woah...
Dayum nigga, that's deeeep
I love old statues being found
We need to recover this artifact and use it to appease the gaming gods so that we can get some good games again!
YOU ARE CORRECT!
Yeah.
If Sega stopped throwing sonic into greenhill zone every damn sonic game, maybe he'd finally be allowed to leave
XD
"...be allowed to LEAF"
Wow, what a state that statue’s in although it could be a lot worse, it could have been destroyed.
I love these types of videos, they’re a lot different from your usual type and very interesting. Can’t wait to see the next!
There will be more videos like this in the future, I'll also be discussing other games a lot more since I'm really interest in game design and writing across all games...
And I just cannot afford or have space for lots of merch these days =(
"it could've been destroyed"
It *is* being destroyed, just very slowly.
This video is not getting enough attention. Help spread this video to anyone!

Sonic needs a new home
Also some chill background music would be nice
I had the same idea. Some strong powerbank + cheap & highly economical speaker.

I think Sonic should stay there and be a symbol for the people of that area, maybe somebody will pick him up, fix him, and put em back. Sonic belongs there in his very own Green Hill Zone.
No sonic should be at sega of japan and thats not a real life green hill zone thats a real life wood zone
Sega should fix it and also put a Sonic Mania sign on the bottom to promote Sonic Mania
That is true
@@joechristo2 They shouldn't, because what it used to,and still says,is history,so therefore if they were to tamper with it,it spiritually and historically wouldn't be the same. It's like graffiti on a finished painting.
@@sabrinalibby3435 you don't know how ownership works lol.
I hope this can lead to the owners being contacted and they agree to preservation or repairs to halt its deterioration, even if done or paid by the Sonic community. The owners may not even realize how famous the model is and all the work that has been put into finding it over the years. I just watched chilly’s video on this and when she went sonic was noseless.
But in 2009 his nose was still intact. I wonder what happened to it? ( pause video at 3:06 and 2:15 for the comparison)

Come on dude. It isn't just going to spontaneously evaporate down to a nub.
No, but due to the shape, the area closer to his face is likely to rust first, which would make it much less stable. A stick, an animal, the nose's own weight, etc. Could knock it off if the base rusted first.
@@BitchCookie Exactly. So pretty obviously it was broken off.
@@AstroTibs I see what you mean, but if it were just broken by wear and tear rather than a person, I wouldn't really consider it being broken off over just worn off.

1) Left in its current place but regularly restored
OR
2) Placed in a video game museum
But this is just my humble opinion

Hey Badnik Mechanic! I'd just like to say that I extremely grateful for the attention my channel has experienced as a result of this awesome video. My videos about the recent discovery of the Sega World Sonic and Sally statues found abandoned in a Sydney junkyard have truly boomed in the last week and now I have an army of Sonic the Hedgehog fans demanding more information about their rescue. Once again thank you and oddly enough I did subscribe to your channel because I liked your thumbnails at first and stayed for the content!
