What gets me is that it was their "one last thing" too.. they understood it was a big deal and treated it as such. Not even Super Mario RPG got that treatment, it's just, insane. And Nintendo of America has it pinned to their twitter account still??? They're treating it like such a huge deal and I couldn't be more happy and relieved!!? Im just, so happy. Exactly what you said Arlo, I feel at peace.
Yeah that was what got me also. Given how CS and OK were announced (CS was treated as a throwaway announcement almost). Nintendo absolutely knew this would set off a firestorm of hype amongst the older fanbase who have literally been screaming for this since Sticker Star. I never thought a Paper Mario game would close a direct, let alone TTYD. That’s why it was so shocking (especially given how close it is to RPG).
Seriously! I wasn't impressed with the Direct overall and I was like, "They need to announce something really amazing to make up for this....." and lo and behold......
I think they are definitely making this a big deal to see how people react and how it sells to see how much people would really be receptive to the old paper Mario style coming back or if it was just a vocal online minority.
I feel like we've all become a but desensitized to the fact Arlo is making full-length youtube videos as a MUPPET and it's not weird in the slightest. That's some artistry there.
What do you mean a muppet? A thing like those Jim Henson dolls? Nah, this is Arlo. We don't know where he/his species originally comes from, but it's living somewhere along the westcoast of the USA iirc
Arlo is apart of the Muppets canon to me. In all of the modern Muppets stuff, Arlo as a Muppets just exists as a person. The Muppet reboot movie showed us Muppets just exist as a species of people, so Arlo is canon
I can't believe that all of the reasons Arlo's channel originally blew up have finally been fulfilled. There's something so cathartic and final about this video, like yeah don't get me wrong he's obviously going to make more, but it's almost like, if i squinted, everything could stop right now and it'd be okay
It feels like we’ve just witnessed the conclusion of a character arc, and we’ve come full circle from the time Arlo uploaded “The Problem with Paper Mario” back in 2016; his entire RUclips career was leading up to this moment.
Yeah, the only thing that could possibly top this is the 7th main entry being a full "return to form" (a.k.a. take off the really dumb IP protection gloves)
The Switch really has been a massive love letter to Arlo with what Nintendo has put out/announced. First Metroid Prime 4 gets announced, then Metroid Dread comes back from the dead, Pikmin 4 comes out, Metroid Prime 1 gets a great remaster, Pikmin 1 + 2 are ported, and now TTYD gets a remake.
It's funny since there was that GameXplain interview for Color Splash where a dev was specifically asked if there a chance they would remake past Paper Mario games like Thousand Year Door and their answer was basically "If enough people asked for it". Seven years and two games later, here we are!
I just wanted to say, your puppeteering is incredible. You can see mannerisms , micro-gestures and emotions through the puppet so clearly. The Arlo puppet really is an extension of you. TTYD related, I have watched so many let's plays and speedruns that I basically know the game front and back. My inability to obtain this game has made me consume as much content about it as I could. Needless to say, I want to buy this remaster/remake and finally experience it for myself. As a fellow fan of Mario RPGs (and Super Paper Mario enjoyer), I am currently very very happy.
@@josemembreno3134As someone whose studied the Arlonian species, it seems they have a natural liking to Metriod and keeping Metroid figurines in their natural habitat.
Tinfoil hat theory: Intelligent Systems tend to make new Paper Mario games every four years, give or take, and someone at the office was like "you know, 2024 will be twenty years since Thousand Year Door... Let's do it". And everyone went "Yeah, let's do it!" and threw Tenabe into a closet.
@@CDJAM-webm Took away the soul, and made paper mario like 80% more corporate and brand centered. Only origami king slightly pushed against that, but only slightly
Kind of ironic that I found this channel from your "The Problem With Paper Mario" video like 7 years ago. And now our wish is getting fulfilled and we're getting a Paper Mario that we all want (even if it's not a brand new game.) Good times lie ahead!
Furthermore, when they remade it, not only did they remake the game’s visuals entirely, but they retained the artistic integrity of the original character designs, environments, and story, while new characters feel at home in the old art style! It honestly makes me a little teary-eyed thinking about how much they care! This is a game made with passion, they respect it, and they want to make people happy. All of that… it just makes me so happy!
@@elin111 Remakes tend to be the same game with prettier graphics. It also has a higher resolution and aspect ratio. It's also more accessible now compared to needing a game cube and the original game. But what's wrong with the same game but prettier
I don't think they respected the original art style enough, too much cardboard now. But it does look way better than Origami king/Sticker Star/Color Splash. I know it's called *paper* mario but the paper aspect was never its main appeal until they doubled down on it when stickerstar came along
@@elin111The problem is that Diamond and Pearl have aged terribly. Hell, they were outdated 2 years after launch; Platinum is the only reason Gen 4 was ever brought up to an acceptable standard IMO. If they'd made a faithful remaster based on that game's shell instead I think we'd hear significantly fewer complaints.
Discovering how much love the world has for Thousand Year Door was the coolest part of growing up. I remember playing it on my gamecube in highschool while all my friends were playing halo and call of duty. I remember how deeply the story movie and how intensely I felt for the characters. It had such a pronounced impact on my life, and I never shared it with anyone. I was honestly too embarrassed to tell anyone that I was playing Paper Mario and not shooting up whatever. And then over a decade later, I found out how passionate the fanbase was online. I honestly never knew when I played the game that anyone else cared but me. It was so heartwarming to finally be able to share that with someone. With so many people! And so to all of us, cheers. Cheers to a good day. Thanks, everyone.
I'm right there with you. I also felt for the characters. Especially Admiral Bobbery. Just think about all the people out there who will get to experience that for the first time!
One fun fact is that in his video The Problem With Paper Mario, that kickstarted his carreer, he ends it with "Please let Pikmin 4 have a level editor". Just another reminder how long the wait for Pikmin 4 was.
It’s crazy how Arlo’s entire RUclips channel arc has been completed. Like he could run off into the sunset and go live on a mountain, growing a long white beard and live the rest of his life at peace knowing he won
not just him, the fans won, people been crying for actual paper mario game for longest time, we want full fledge RPG, not these hybrid games they been doing, the one on Wii U was terrible with painting doing battles were tedious and waste of time
No. He and we will not have won until Nintendo releases wholly new Paper Marios that are actual RPGs in the style of 64 and TTYD and keeps releasing them every console generation. Until the day that games like Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King are dead and buried 80 miles in the ground under 60 tons of concrete, never to be dug up again, WE HAVE NOT YET WON.
# 0001 The fact that TTYD is getting a remake (even so much over PM) is basically Nintendo admitting that TTYD is the pinnacle of the Paper Mario series and the last 3 titles made can never measure up to it. Hell you know it's embarrassing if people love Bug Fables more than them. And it was an indie! So I don't know what these "rules" are and why they cling on so hard for. But I'm like this, if Bug Fables 2 becomes a thing and it goes twice as explosive as 1, Nintendo may as well pack it up.
The back sprites, the specific reaction animations during cutscenes, the unique sfx when characters are “talking”, the insane lighting…. They put their back into this one. I’m excited.
I love how the parts of the characters that tween are seperate pieces of paper. Its so weird how they didn’t choppify the animations and give the characters white outlines but I love this new direction (or faithful one). Obviously there’s a bit of white on-top of the papers since thats what real paper is anyways. These small details give a lot of depth to the environment and characters. And I’m so glad they kept the pop up transitions from entering and exiting houses.
The thing to remember as well is the director of TTYD is back after FE Cipher wrapped up. He worked on and oversaw the FE card game while Sticker star through Origami King were being made. I think him being back is helping refocus and maybe he is able to throw more weight around than Tenabe can?
I knew in my head that someone from the original team who did Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door would return at some point. So I'm glad to hear he's coming back after a 15 year hiatus or something.
The trailer already has 800k+ views, glad to see so many people having eyes on this remake. This is a big opportunity for us to prove this is the way we want Paper Mario to be.
@@GamerNintendo25 “One of my FAVORITE parts of Thousand Year Door here is this pixel on Mario’s mustache. This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest pixels to grace gaming, now let’s talk for an hour about this pixel on Hooktail.”
@@RyderPlatinumWarpstar How about a full, hour long break down of each and every floor of the Pit of 100 Trials??? That's an hour for each individual floor. Yeah, I'd watch that.
This whole thing, I’m gonna freaking cry man. Last year I was so ready to off myself. And now here I am, over a year later, thinking about how this game is actually real. I’m so happy I didn’t give up. For a lot of reasons, but TTYD is at the front of my mind. Paper Mario has been one of my favorite series for forever and I never, EVER thought we would get this. But here we are. Just goes to show that, life can be really, really tough. But there will always be things in the future that will make the struggle worth it. Most of them you won’t be aware of till they come. I know it’s just a game but to me it’s so much more than that. Whoever’s reading this, please never forget that there are things in the future that will make the pain worth it.
Same. I was very depressed the last few years but things like this do help a lot more than most people realise. TTYD, RPG, FF7R2. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.
i agree! i’m struggling to hold on some days, but knowing that mario rpg, ttyd, and maybe even luigi’s mansion 1 are coming to switch really does help ❤ i’m glad you’re still here!
I love how I grabbed my copy of TTYD to hold onto and admire while listening, only to look up and suddenly see Arlo has done the exact same thing. Truly the timeline is beginning to heal. I can only hope this means Nintendo might finally listen to Paper Mario fans and Paper Mario will see a grand return in all its glory
I believe that after this remake. They will start making Paper Mario games that are more like the first two/three games but still use the paper craft art style from "Sticker Star," "Color Splash" and "Origami King." (Those latter three games focused to heavily on the "paper" aspect to the point where characters are aware that they're paper and mention it at random moments.)
I think the reason they went with thousand year door might have been influenced by the fact that it is the one new paper mario games are measured against. Reviews for origami king were always like "its not as good as thousand year door but its ok", and its what like most of the social media discourse was like too.
They do, but it's nowhere close enough to the amount of TYD comparisons to be worth mentioning here, and even when they are the focus, chances are the others get mentioned too.@@thehevandragon
Basically, if this remaster does well, Paper Mario can return to form as it should have. This is essentially a test run and Paper Mario's last chance to bring back the classic mechanics. If this game fails, you can kiss all hope goodbye.
They won't until Miyamoto is out of the picture, these are his personal directives and rules, and I don't think profit has anything to do with those particular choices.@@Eskoblazin
This is one of those situations where a game gets a remaster/remake that he never thought would happen. AND IT ENDS UP BEING ONE OF HIS FAVORITE GAMES OF ALL TIME!!!!😊😊🥳🥳😃😃🤩🤩
I'm on the same level Bowsers inside story and ttyd is my favorite games of all time, I always wanted to play ttyd in my switch hoping for a port, but a full on remake to us fans is a literal dream come true
@@genzsavedamerica2234 I am too, but to me Nintendo redeemed themselves..for detail I'm not gonna get into..I really needed this reveal...so let's be happy that this is a reality ^^
by the way, this is the first time Arlo has said the words “Thousand Year Door” in a video since February The last two, he was still in denial of this remake’s existence
One small thing I like is how different characters have different dialogue sounds. Like they did that a little in the older paper Mario games by putting the pitch up or down but in this one they splice together voice clips to make the dialogue sounds which I find really charming. I think that might be a carry over from Origami King but I could be mistaken. I don’t remember that game very well.
I love that both Mario RPG, and TTYD are getting remakes around the same time. To me, it shows that while, yes, they're both RPG games featuring Mario they also both have different appeals/creative, and both series can co-exist at the same time. Hopefully, this will lead to both of them getting proper sequels, and we can get both series back on track.
Super Mario RPG, also known on the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars in 1995, and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door in 2004. Really shapes from the time I was born all the way up to the gamecube/wii era of gaming.
It won't, nintendo is just trying to make a very easy quick buck and they will move on, no reason to think they will actually start making good paper mario games again.
14:50 I feel this so hard. Hearing you break it down honestly brought me to tears. My entire life Nintendo has had my back. And they prove it time and time again how much they mean to me. Now all I can do is sit and wait for what they come up with next. Having no idea what they’re gonna do for us next. How exciting.
i love the artstyle of the this remake. It feels like the old TYD but it marries the new paper style perfectly. Also they didn't just announce it, they made it the closing announcement of an entire 40 minute direct. That has to mean something.
I know if they're not doing this I'm setting myself up for disappointment, so I'm trying hard not to hope this is the plan, but I really want to hope this means they understand what we want from Paper Mario, and that they're secretly cooking up a new one that's going to try and be closer to the first one/TTYD/hell even SPM.
@@gregvs.theworld451yes that exactly what I hope I hope Nintendo sees WHY we love TTYD I can’t speak for everyone but I like unique npcs back and I want the rpg aspect back, tbh I think the reason ‘oh we already have a rpg series, Mario and Luigi’ is stupid
The Kings of Left Field strike again, and I couldn't be happier for Arlo. The Switch has been one dream come true for him after another, and it's all culminated to this. I'm so glad he's finally fully at peace.
Nintendo also has to be aware that once people get a taste of this version of Paper Mario in their mouths, they are going to want more games with these RPG mechanics, badges, partners, etc. So this could, now an emphasis on could, bring about a resurgence of the "Thousand Year Door" style to future Paper Mario games 🤞
That's the most important part of this for me. It seems pointless to go to all that trouble remaking both Mario RPG and Thousand Year door, releasing them close together only to just go back to StickerStar/ColorSplash blandness.
In other words, a combination of testing the waters and/or re-invigorating the market for a type of game they are likely to return to [exciting old players and getting new players to try for the first time, so they will also be primed for a new game of that style, should it come]. Not to mention making some extra money in the process.
When it comes time for the reviews, I really hope a lot of the reviews bring attention to the character designs and such. Bring attention to the stuff that the fans of the first two Paper Mario games loved. I just hope that this remake can lead to Nintendo rethinking their approach with Paper Mario.
Remember how Arlo pointed out in his first PM video how casually and thoughtlessly Nintendo revealed Color Splash in one of their Directs? And now we have a full blown remake revealed to close out a Direct as a special surprise. This game coming out and the reception to it will make it Paper Mario fans’ biggest chance by far since TTYD to get a game in the original style again.
I'm glad Arlo finally understands how Mario rpg legend of the 7 stars fans felt. Every single word in this video. The confusion. The passion. Just replace every instance of "paper Mario" with "Mario rpg" and this is exactly how I felt when it was announced a couple months ago. I'm so happy for this positive attention to what feels like forgotten games.
Man, I never got to play mario rpg, but I cried and felt every emotion from this video about TTYD. If you feel that way about mario rpg, I’m so excited to play it for the first time when it releases!!
fr growing up i played mario rpg instead of any of the paper mario games (cause ttyd wasn’t on the wii virtual console and the n64 paper mario was more expensive) and as soon as i played it and learned about it i had FOR YEARS accepted that bc of the licensing issues Nintendo would never revisit it/bring back any of the characters and when i saw it announced i was in complete disbelief
I was listening to the direct at work and was thinking “Wow mid direct much.” Then at that last announcement I smiled knowing some fans were going to get something cool… then those notes hit and I literally could not comprehend what I was hearing, but I KNEW THAT SONG! I looked at my phone and nearly fell over. It was indeed a very good day. I can’t wait to go on that journey again with all those characters I really never thought I’d get to see again. But above all else, I knew a certain blue puppet somewhere was screaming his head off, just as happy as I was.
This genuinely feels like the end of a character arc. I’ve been following Arlo since 2018, and even though I never played a Paper Mario game before, his passion for the series always intrigued me. Now he’s finally getting what he wished for. Imma pick up the game just for you, you precious blue monster.
It actually hurts to see this video come to an end "so fast", I'm so happy that'll finally get to play it for myself soon, and all redone ! I wish I could have a Arlo stream on twitch with him rambling about it for hours !
I'll always remember when Nintendo was asked years ago whether they'd remake Paper Mario TTYD. And they basically responded "well would you buy it?" This absolutely seems like they did hear what we wanted, and it finally worked out for them in a business perspective or timing thing.
I think we all freaked out like Arlo when this got announced! I can’t believe we’re getting Mario RPG & TTYD remakes potentially within a year of each other!
I still have my copy of Paper Mario TTYD from my childhood, 20 years later. Been wanting to give it a go since it’s been a few years. But man, since the announcement. I want to savor it for the remake. I’m so happy.
the problem with that is that it’s already been ported to the switch there’s No Reason to make the 64 version ttyd isn’t On The Switch it makes the most sense because we haven’t had a game like it since even super was criticized because the gameplay wasn’t like ttyd it has the best and most ideal battle system on top of having a great story and characters like 64 and super mario rpg before it did ttyd isn’t put on a pedestal out of nastalgia it was a Great Game and what future paper mario games should strive to be like plus it has the most fan outcry twards it being remade it’s not that hard to see why they remade ttyd instead
@@Kurumithespiritnightmare Good point; I never though about Paper Mario already being available on the Switch whereas TTYD is still locked to Gamecube only.
It’s still so surreal that this game is coming to the Switch. It’s such a masterpiece and I’m super excited to revisit it! If you haven’t played this amazing game yet, you are in for an absolute treat.
they did not specify that it was coming to the switch, it just says 2024! so it could be a launch title for whatever comes next. although i wouldn't expect that, i think it's a switch game... BUT you never know!
I think it was kinda obvious TTYD was coming to switch after Nintendo already added games like Mario sunshine & Metroid GameCube onto the switch. BUT, a TTYD complete remake??? Outta no where
I just have this gut feeling that Nintendo is holding something back about this remake....something to do with Luigi....I mean it has been over 3 years since origami king. Plenty of time
How did Arlo make me feel as though a long lost friend had re-entered my life against all odds - beautiful story telling. I have a feeling I’ll come back to the end of the video when I need the simple pleasures in life to keep me going. Thank you.
The redone soundtrack for this game seems very well done! And this was pointed out to me on Reddit, but that scene where Mario and Yoshi were reacting in horror to the villager turning into a pig in the trailer.... that wasn't in the original game! We just got a "!" bubble in the original TTYD. Because of that and all the numerous small but excellent refinements they seem to have made to this excellent game... I'm so excited for this release ^_^
One thing that keeps pumping me up after watching the trailer a thousand times is they are actually remaking the music too! And everything we’ve heard so far sounds great IMO! Also loved hearing the OG Paper Mario theme thrown in there towards the beginning! It threw me off for a sec during the reveal as my brain was trying to process what was going on, but I hope we hear it in game somewhere, sounds awesome! What a wonderful time to be alive :)
Not gonna lie, this made me tear up pretty good. TTYD was a big part of my teenage hood- my brothers and I played it so many times over. Such a beautiful game and so many memories tied to it.
I’m REALLY excited for this! Newcomers to the series can FINALLY understand this is the true direction Paper Mario should have taken in the first place!!! And from what I’ve seen from the trailer, it all looks SO promising!! 😁

I always loved the original Paper Mario, and even older ones like Super Paper Mario were pretty cool, but I'd always heard the Thousand Year Door was the best one, and never got to play it. Super hyped to finally give it a shot!
It's so hard to put in to words just how much this game means to me... To so many of us. It taught me what it was really like to get immersed in a world. Caring about it's characters, the story, the fun environments and fantastical elements, the combat being simple at a surface level, but wildly engaging the deeper you chose to dive in to it. It's just all so special. I was 12 when it came out originally, and to say it's not only formed my tastes in games, but also my choice in career to want to make to games like it and capture that feeling again--giving it to everyone else? It'd be a gross understatement. When that opening trailer music dropped and that classical tome showed up? I couldn't help but cry.
Arlo, I first came to your channel all those years ago because of one of your earliest Paper Mario videos. I tend to agree with you and feel the same as you regarding the series and since that day, I have been with you on your journey. Every time one of your dreams came true I was here sharing it with you and it felt real to me. Now, whenever I watch Directs, my first thought is always “oh yeah, Arlo is gonna lose it.” Now that we’ve finally come to this day, when the Switch is giving you your last dream come true, I can’t help but feel nostalgic. Thanks for all the years and memories. I’m so glad I was able to share this with you and see the day when TTYD came back. Cheers.
I'm sending the thumbnail to everyone I know. The love must be spread. Every life is worth living, especially in a world with you and the TTYD Remake. You've saved a lot of lives today, Arlo. Be proud.
I’m happy too Arlo. This goes along with the “Is mario becoming less bland” video. The blandness is Mario games is felt all too well. Like Nintendo was scared writing really complex characters and dialogue was somehow “off-brand” for mario, not realizing a lot of the risks they’ve taken with this video game icon from making him in 3D, giving him a voice and putting him in space are all part of what makes us love this franchise more.
The way I found you was through your modern Paper Mario rants. I felt relieved someone could voice every problem I had with the new ones and who knew why TTYD was so special. This video was heartwarming to watch, we finally got our wish. 😢
I will say that the ending to that game is so friggin wholesome. You could also call it other things maybe (cheesy and cliche come to mind) but man, I love me that ending.
It was the remake I've been expecting the least but dreaming of the most for so many years. I still can't get over the fact it's really happening and I tear up everytime I think about it. This is pure joy, they're remaking my favorite game ever.
Well people were talking about this game over the past couple of years . I mean just look at how pricey it got since C0vid. Anyways, I prefer this game getting remake over the other Paper Marios
this is still so insane. i get that feeling of "why? why now?" cause it really feels like it doesn't make sense but i'm glad regardless absolutely did not expect to see super mario rpg at the last direct and now ttyd with this one is nuts. actually playing RPG again on my wii u, gotta complete it before the remake hits. so dern stoked
This was my only wish for this last Direct, and it actually happened. It's the first time that's ever happened for me. I normally just don't go in specifically hoping for anything because I'm usually disappointed, but I definitely wasn't this time.
@@genzsavedamerica2234 In a more passive sense, yeah, but I never really expected it whatsoever. But this time, given the rumors and all, I explicitly went in hoping for it, and now here we are. Though in hindsight, I did the same thing with Animal Crossing, so I suppose this is the second time something I was really strongly hoping for actually dropped when I wanted it to. Normally I'm just taken by surprise when something I actually want like a new sandbox Mario drops.
I love that it’s not even just a port/remaster. But a true remake!! All the fun of playing it as an elementary school kid back in 2004, we get to relive it! I can’t wait! Maybe so much more new things to discover too!
See this is exactly how I felt about SMRPG. I am STILL in utter disbelief its coming back, and then TTYD gets announced RIGHT AFTER IT? Baffling, surreal, stunning, amazing.
Same here. I was extremely happy RPG got announced, though it did cause me to lose any hope of 64/TTYD getting a remaster as well. Then the book showed up at the end of the direct and I was legitimately left speechless lol.
@@genzsavedamerica2234The only reason why it's out of the question is more so because it feels like Nintendo is insistent that it's out of the question. We said the same thing about Mother 1, until 2015. Since then they've released it, if I'm remembering the number right, 3 other times outside of Japan. So is Mother 3 absolutely never ever? It's Nintendo. Never say and mean never. But the likelihood based on their previous actions is extremely low.
This has been the best year to be Arlo: the entire Pikmin series is on switch; Tears of the Kingdom released; Metroid Prime 1 remake released which hints at the entire trilogy being released and a healthier Prime 4 development; The Thousand Years Door remake announced.
I'm flabbergasted. THIS IS EVERYTHING WE COULD'VE ASKED FOR AND WAY MORE. Like, I wrote this out of my brain years and years and years ago. This game means so much to me, it's one of the first games I played for when I could first hold a controller. Wandering around Rogueport aimlessly just happy to be playing as Mario, slowly growing up and slowly getting further with the game. The music, characters, little tiny add ons like the party members having back sprites, this game is in good hands. And that's what's amazing, that's the best part. The game is in good hands. Future of Nintendo doesn't look so bleak for the oldies, we're gonna be alright and even more. THOUSAND YEAR DOOR BABYYYYYYYYYYY
I'm so happy! I never played this game before! It was always one of the elusive games from Nintendo's past for me but now I will be actually able to play it!
Help I can't stop watching this video I've seen it like a hundred times and it still gets me every time especially the part when he says this is the last thing the switch could do for me.
I admittedly haven’t been the biggest fan of the paper craft world aesthetic of the modern games. The “flat assets” you mentioned are a perfectly valid aspect to upgrade, but I’ve always appreciated that the first 3 Paper Mario games didn’t feel like I was playing *with* paper. The Link’s Awakening remake had a similar issue for me: it felt like I was playing with toys, rather than it just being aesthetically simplistic. TTYD is my favorite game of all time, and I worry that I’ll find it distracting if I feel like suddenly, instead of just being immersed in a cartoon world, I’m just watching paper move around. It loses some of the immersion factor to me-why care about stakes or characters when they’re literal paper? There’s a lot of bad blood between me and modern Paper Mario, so it’ll take some time for me to warm up to my favorite game reminding me of it. But all of this said, I’m still really excited-because I *will* get used to it, and I’m so excited to play this game yet again, anywhere, any time.
I personally see the first paper mario games as being non-paper adventures that were being retold through a storybook, especially since most of the blatant paper stuff was either visual gags or explicitly supernatural stuff, such as the curses.
My theory is that Miyamoto and Furukawa wanted to mess with Arlo, specifically Arlo. They heard him complain one time too many so they decided to get revenge. Good-natured revenge. They gave him exactly what he wanted so that they could laugh at his confused disbelief.
As someone who quite likes Colour Splash and Origami King, TTYD HD is an absolute win-win for Nintendo and the fans. The big N seems to be experimenting with Mario a lot more now, making this the best time to do this, but why is it a win-win? For the fans, it makes a hard to get game (outside of emulating) very accessible now, and it gives people the chance to vote with their wallet on the future of the series. For Nintendo, this is a relatively cheap way to do a litmus test to see if classic PM is in demand. What a time to be a Nintendo fan tho!
They have show the first 5 of Mario’s partners on Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. They are: Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Yoshi, and even Vivian on this video.
It's so nice getting to see Arlo again. :) (We've gotten to hear from him a lot, but it's been a month or two since we got to see Arlo. I hope this means he's feeling better.)
Between the pandemic and their in-house developers no-doubt working on games for the new console, it makes sense Nintendo would lean on remakes and remasters for this holiday season. As projects go, they're a great deal easier to organize, because everyone can coordinate around the original game as a sort of blueprint.
It still feels unbelievable. There's a strong chance this'll sell well and when that does, that borderline guarantees the style of games like TTYD will be the formula from here on out. Oh my god, dude, we made it to this point?
I’ve never seen anyone have such dedication and passion for a video game series until I discovered you and Arlo😍💚 congratulations 🎊 on getting your lifelong dream!!!!!❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰💚💚💚😻😻💟
If this goes well (and it probably will), I bet the next Paper Mario made for Switch 2 will be a proper Paper Mario 3 in the style we love. I think fan wishes have been loud and clear over time and we're on a good course now
@@KingdomHeartsBrawler This is true, but you can't fault people for counting it as a separate thing from the first two either (even if it's my 2nd favorite PM in general)
I feel like it's hard to talk about a successor to TTYD because SPM exists, and I feel like it's much closer in identity to TTYD than it is to Sticker Star. At the same time, however, SPM is a significant departure in gameplay, and its story and setting are mostly self-contained, so I feel that a potential sequel would probably lean on 64 and TTYD more, even if SPM's events are still canon (SPM did take place in a different dimention, after all.)
@@emmetstanevich2121I didn't mind the way Super shifts to different gameplay style. Although I do prefer the series stays in turn based combat over the side scrolling platform. The big problem is that the way Super's plays was very undercooked and many levels can be cryptic. I think the Red Guy channel explains on how Super Paper Mario could've played out than what we got did an better job on that.
Arlo's Remaster The Thousand Year Door Arc is complete. I wonder what's next. This year has been full of completing arcs: Pikmin 4/Pikmin Popularity Rising, Tears of the Kingdom finally coming, Metroid Dread, and Thousand Year Door... looking forward to the next arc in the Arlo Cinematic Universe. It's a good year to be a Pikmin fan and Muppet fan... there was long-awaited releases for both franchises and my year has been made. But it's been followings others' Fandom wins this year because there clearly is a multitude.

TBF though we don’t know how they would have announced OK cause Nintendo couldn’t do directs due to Covid
@@CrackedcrippleI feels like certain elements must be toned down,
I feel like we've all become a but desensitized to the fact Arlo is making full-length youtube videos as a MUPPET and it's not weird in the slightest. That's some artistry there.
I genuinely forget that there's a human behind the puppet, he's just that good, incredibly expressive
I honestly can not even come close to imagining a person that would have this voice. It's so unnatural that only the muppet comes to mind
@@thepokemonqueenno there isn’t 🤨
Oh, he's gonna HAVE to give a review of it.
It feels like we’ve just witnessed the conclusion of a character arc, and we’ve come full circle from the time Arlo uploaded “The Problem with Paper Mario” back in 2016; his entire RUclips career was leading up to this moment.
Now what do we do...sit and watch the credits hoping they tease a sequel?
Yeah, the only thing that could possibly top this is the 7th main entry being a full "return to form" (a.k.a. take off the really dumb IP protection gloves)
I mean it's only a remake, they haven't addressed the issue yet. But we're making small progress.
That was 2016!?!? Damn....

I still watch speed runs for ttyd and I've never been happier that the fandom didn't die. 😁
I'm right there with you. I also felt for the characters. Especially Admiral Bobbery. Just think about all the people out there who will get to experience that for the first time!
I love TTYD! It's my favourite game of all time! It triggers special emotions in me! (I hope that was a correct Englisch sentence! ^^)

And he’s gotten almost every single one!
Me too. Arlo deserves it. Switch is his favorite system.

Chances are they’ve listened, they just didn’t bother.
I believe that after this remake. They will start making Paper Mario games that are more like the first two/three games but still use the paper craft art style from "Sticker Star," "Color Splash" and "Origami King."
(Those latter three games focused to heavily on the "paper" aspect to the point where characters are aware that they're paper and mention it at random moments.)
I think the reason they went with thousand year door might have been influenced by the fact that it is the one new paper mario games are measured against.
Reviews for origami king were always like "its not as good as thousand year door but its ok", and its what like most of the social media discourse was like too.
The main one.
People do compare them to 64 and on some level even Super (despite it not being turn based).
I hope this game sells so Nintendo will finally go back true to form due to sales.
They won't until Miyamoto is out of the picture, these are his personal directives and rules, and I don't think profit has anything to do with those particular choices.@@Eskoblazin

I just have this gut feeling that Nintendo is holding something back about this remake....something to do with Luigi....I mean it has been over 3 years since origami king. Plenty of time
@@okkon8106it literally shows the switch icon in the top left at the end
How did Arlo make me feel as though a long lost friend had re-entered my life against all odds - beautiful story telling. I have a feeling I’ll come back to the end of the video when I need the simple pleasures in life to keep me going. Thank you.
I rewatch Arlo videos all the time 😂
The redone soundtrack for this game seems very well done!
I'mma play it so hard when it comes out, don't worry. I grew up with the modern Paper Marios, so I can't wait to play this!
Honestly let people enjoy modern paper Mario if they like it, jeezus, they are still good games
@@amarhastings6849Origami king was my first paper mario game and I was 14 when it came out.And I enjoyed playing it.When this game comes out I am going to be 18 or 19
@@amarhastings6849 you are really going to start with that? Thousand Year Door wasn’t my first Paper Mario, it was Super Paper Mario, and yet I played TTYD just once and somehow it made it into my top 10 games of all time
I don’t care which Paper Mario you play. All I want is people to experience what I FELT playing this game, I ain’t forcing this on anyone SO PLEASE. DON’T START AN ARGUMENT
The Thousand Year Wait is finally over and I am for one excited to play this game for the first time!
i’m both happy and envious for those like you who are getting to experience this game for the first time. it’s still my favorite game of all time! it never gets old, and i’ll enjoy it even more with a new coat of paint on it
@@deanmoriarty6015 I actually have the game in my collection though I haven't actually played it yet but I'm gonna wait for this, can't wait!
Haven't got it yet I CAN WAIT A BIT
Hey man I’ve never seen your videos except this one but thank you so much for that push you made online for people to discuss and outwardly express their want for a TTYD remake or paper returning to its roots, I did a lot of posting too because I too felt the same way, and wanted this so badly. I really think your online push helped Nintendo wake up so again thanks for having such a passion for this series. Have a great day man
I always loved the original Paper Mario, and even older ones like Super Paper Mario were pretty cool, but I'd always heard the Thousand Year Door was the best one, and never got to play it.
I played this game back in time on GameCube, this game is absolutely a MUST play !! It's that good honestly.
Arlo, I first came to your channel all those years ago because of one of your earliest Paper Mario videos. I tend to agree with you and feel the same as you regarding the series and since that day, I have been with you on your journey. Every time one of your dreams came true I was here sharing it with you and it felt real to me. Now, whenever I watch Directs, my first thought is always “oh yeah, Arlo is gonna lose it.”
Now that we’ve finally come to this day, when the Switch is giving you your last dream come true, I can’t help but feel nostalgic.
If this remake sells well enough (and it most definitely shall), then imagine what that would mean for the future of the Paper Mario franchise
The way I found you was through your modern Paper Mario rants. I felt relieved someone could voice every problem I had with the new ones and who knew why TTYD was so special. This video was heartwarming to watch, we finally got our wish. 😢
Me too
This is the first time someone said it’s gonna be okay and I believe them. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door heals. ❤
Yes, 100% feel the same way. I'm still tearing up just thinking about this. The greatest game of all time.
Well people were talking about this game over the past couple of years . I mean just look at how pricey it got since C0vid. Anyways, I prefer this game getting remake over the other Paper Marios
Yo it is not that serious 😭😭
Cry? Dude
@@SilentSpringzYes, pieces of media can bring us a variety of emotions, including extreme joy.
This is fantastic. I know it's on NSO, but I also hope they give Paper Mario 1 the love it deserves.
this is still so insane. i get that feeling of "why? why now?" cause it really feels like it doesn't make sense but i'm glad regardless
absolutely did not expect to see super mario rpg at the last direct and now ttyd with this one is nuts. actually playing RPG again on my wii u, gotta complete it before the remake hits. so dern stoked
This was my only wish for this last Direct, and it actually happened. It's the first time that's ever happened for me. I normally just don't go in specifically hoping for anything because I'm usually disappointed, but I definitely wasn't this time.
Don’t pretend this is the only time you wished for that😉
@@genzsavedamerica2234 In a more passive sense, yeah, but I never really expected it whatsoever.
@@Kirby12352I can see that 9 times out of 10 rumors don’t usually come true
I’m absolutely so hyped for this game, but seeing Arlo so content and happy is just a wonderful cherry on top for this wonderful announcement.
I love that it’s not even just a port/remaster. But a true remake!! All the fun of playing it as an elementary school kid back in 2004, we get to relive it! I can’t wait! Maybe so much more new things to discover too!
I love this game to death. Played it out on my Gamecube. Glad I get to experience it all again on Switch.
13:05 That is so nicely timed, props to the editor
See this is exactly how I felt about SMRPG. I am STILL in utter disbelief its coming back, and then TTYD gets announced RIGHT AFTER IT?
Baffling, surreal, stunning, amazing.
Is mother 3 really out of the question?
Love all the memes that have sprouted from this thumbnail lol. So happy for you in getting this game to switch! Definitely gonna pick it up.
Great to see you on camera again, Arlo! Hope you continue to feel better!
I'm so happy! I never played this game before! It was always one of the elusive games from Nintendo's past for me but now I will be actually able to play it!
In the same boat
lmao you guys are in for the time of your lives!!
@@loool72 I hope so. I loved all the Mario RPGs I played so far but they were all M&L games (it's in the username after all)
This video is your best work so far without a doubt
The 15 minute mark alone was
so beautiful
its so hard to tell if Arlo's happy or upset because i feel like he thinks that he's gonna wake up any minute now
Are we all stuck in a never ending dream 😂
God i had like 3 different dreams about silksong and 1 about elden ring, i kinda know that feeling
Help I can't stop watching this video I've seen it like a hundred times and it still gets me every time especially the part when he says this is the last thing the switch could do for me.
The explosion in the black void of the last interdimensional Arlo ad read was merely Prime Arlo's hype creating the good timeline
I mean miyamoto did give him Pikmin 4! 🤔
Wow! What a great video about Arlo's reaction to the TTYD remake! I sure hope the Arlo multiverse doesnt open because of this video!
They have show the first 5 of Mario’s partners on Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. They are: Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Yoshi, and even Vivian on this video.
It's so nice getting to see Arlo again. :)
(We've gotten to hear from him a lot, but it's been a month or two since we got to see Arlo. I hope this means he's feeling better.)
I think he is from the title
I love how this continues off of his direct reaction where hes having trouble processing it lol
Clearly he still is😂
At this point they're definitely bringing back Mario & Lugi and be really good, maybe revive Chibi-Robo, new Kid Icarus, heck, a Mother 3 remake
i hope they bring back mario luigi, i dont care if its not a new game i just want it back.
@11:30 the battle w/the red dragon and how the 3D-ness of the dragon comes from its pop-up story book paper folding................. GENIUS AND ❤
Mario RPG was the same for me, so I'm happy you got your game remade as well. It looks great so I may have to finally play TTYD when this releases.
sorry, just wanted to take a minute to compliment your name and profile picture.
...nice.
Thank you Arlo. No doubt you voicing your love for this game played a large part in this. Just thank you.
I’ve never seen anyone have such dedication and passion for a video game series until I discovered you and Arlo😍💚 congratulations 🎊 on getting your lifelong dream!!!!!❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰💚💚💚😻😻💟
this game is so special and amazing, I'm so happy more people will get to play it
Never had a chance to play the original, looking forward to playing this one.
If this goes well (and it probably will), I bet the next Paper Mario made for Switch 2 will be a proper Paper Mario 3 in the style we love. I think fan wishes have been loud and clear over time and we're on a good course now
No dissing on SPM. The gameplay may have been different but the heart and soul of the series were still intact. I regard it as being Paper Mario 3.
@@KingdomHeartsBrawler This is true, but you can't fault people for counting it as a separate thing from the first two either (even if it's my 2nd favorite PM in general)
@@KingdomHeartsBrawler no dissing here, I played SPM again this year and it’s great- but very different. I think of it in its own category for sure
Man I think he might be a little excited about the Thousand Year door remake
It is so good to see Arlo back at the desk!
I was listening in my car and literally sounded EXACTLY like you in the beginning lol i had to pull ober and cry. I love this game sooooo much. Cant wait to hear the Shadow Queen music
