No, universal background check are NOT too high of a price to pay for children's safety. It's not even adults, children should be something that Republicans care about too.

    Of course Bradley Whitford loathes Trump! How could he not? After all he worked for the best President America has ever had for 7 wonderful seasons!!!!! Bartlett was a highly intelligent, deeply moral, kind and humanitarian man; flawed certainly, (well, aren't we all?) but an honourable man in every way!!! Watching the Trump's Thanksgiving phone call to the troops instantly reminded me of Bartlett's heartbreaking phone conversation with the young radio operator on a small supply ship doomed to sink in a terrible storm in season one!!! HE didn't start showboating, and talking about himself, HE didn't praise himself, HE didn't discuss politics, HE didn't launch into a self glorifying rally rant about a nonexistent crisis! HE just knelt on the floor and asked the young lad about himself, his family, his fear!!! The memory of that episode sent me scrabbling for my DVD box set to re-watch just that one episode, and I ended up binge watching all 7 seasons!!! The comparison was starkly horrendous!!! Thank you The West Wing writer, actors, producers etc. for all the thought provoking moments, the laughter, and the tears!!!
    What a pity someone can't tie Trump to a chair in a locked cellar, tape his eyes open and force HIM to watch all seven seasons on how a real president, a real White House, a real government SHOULD behave!!! Hell!!! Better!!! yet, put it on a continuous loop and lock him in there for the next 2 years!!!

    The West Wing the the TV series i have seen most times. Good TV series i usually rewatch a couple of times. Like The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers, Deadwood.. All of these and more, i have seen multiple times. But The West Wing, with it's 150+ episodes of 40+ minutes each, i have seen eight whole times, from start to finish. That's over 800 hours i have spent watching it. Yeah it's safe to say The West Wing is my favorite TV show of all time. Great writing, great actors and great characters. It's the show i always put on if it's late and raining outside, just sit back with something to drink and some snacks and just let the show feed my brain with awesomeness. I just love the show so much, and i have been hoping they will release a new series from the universe. And i always hoped it would be Sam that finally was elected, and he will then bring "the old band" back together, and Bartlet would be one of his political advisors.
    Just hoping so much this will happen.

      I've watched almost as much as you, and I'm currently introducing my girlfriend to it for the first time and she's so hooked. It would be amazing to see a new series, and yes it would make sense to put Sam at the centre as president. Although, all the other characters have already achieved 'peak career' in the show. Also I think there's probably been enough White House stories... What if it was a smaller show about Sam as a senator? And we see things from the Senate side?

    • @FabledGentleman
      @FabledGentleman 5 лет назад +4

      @@vishalsaha2145 hehe yeah maybe. It's hard to put my finger on it, but i just love Sorkin's writing, it blends the drama and the humor brilliantly and it's always a joy to watch. And also when you look at the realism of the show, and compare it to the presidency of Clinton, Bush, Obama and now Trump i's really scary how much this show predicted.

    • @FabledGentleman
      @FabledGentleman 5 лет назад +3

      @@JoelJoel321 Yes that could work too. But you know, this is politics. IN politics everyone seem to be moving around. They have different careers and sit in different positions. You can end up anywhere. And the reason i want Sam is because Bartlet told him in one of the episodes that if he once chose to run, he would support him. And this is also what did happen, Sam did run, as he is the right kinda guy, he worked for a well organized and trustworthy administration, he has experience, and if Trump can get away with sleeping with prostitutes, so can Sam! xD
      People like Toby, which was pardoned, will probably not be in the administration, but he can act as a friend to Sam, CJ can in fact maybe return as Press Secretary, maybe she thinks that she can do better than all these other morons we see. If Sarah Huckasands can be allowed on the podium, you bet CJ thinks she can do better. There is material here, definitively. Josh is even easier, as he was chief of staff, his political career skyrocketed with that job, god knows how far he's come. And so on. You see how this basically writes itself.
      And there is plenty of room to add more interesting characters here. So you mix the old with the new to have an administration that saves the world from the total disaster that the Trump administration is. We need hope in these dark times, this show, would be just that. Just like the original West Wing aired while W. Bush was in office.

      @JoelJoel321 5 лет назад +2

      @@FabledGentleman Yeah, I like the Bartlett reference from series 3. I love that line.
      I cannot see CJ coming back as press secretary. She left to work for (effectivey) Bill Gates spending billions of dollars in Africa (Xander Berkeley's character was an obvious proxy). But I could see her maybe in the senate or congress. I would rather see Donna in that role.

    I just finished (for the 100th time) watching the 7 seasons of The West Wing. I use it to remind myself that once upon a time we (although flawed) held the idea of a government that truly tied to do the right thing for the people. We were civil, used facts to base decisions on and had lofty goals for both the American people and the world. While The West Wing was an awesome TV show (not real life) it tried to mirror pretty much how we believed our government should work. Here's hoping that the real life West Wing will once again be a lot more like the TV West Wing.

    See "The West Wing" episode, "The Debate", written by Lawrence O'Donnell, where Jimmy Smits and Alan Alda debate healthcare as candidates. Jimmy's character brings up "Medicare as an available option" for people, and argues it well.
    Which surprised me that Lawrence didn't spotlight that with Bernie Sanders more on his show. I believe that he was already in the bag for Hillary, though.
    Watch the episode. As a person currently on Medicare, I personally believe that it should be an option for all. It ISN'T free (premiums are deducted from my monthly Social security benefits), and I have an option to purchase more coverage from outside insurance companies ("supplemental" insurance) at my own cost. Medicare provides me with a BASE level of benefits for my monthly deduction.

    I miss that no matter what party affiliation someone had, when it came down to doing the right thing for americans and america people did it. Or showed we can have a difference of opinion but still respect someone. And that the difference of opinion didnt sway our core values as human beings into hatred of fellow man.

    I miss the west wing so much. There was no smut language, violence, sex.... it was intelligent, funny and interesting. They talked about relevant issues in a bi-partisan but non-hateful manner. You learned something. I wish they'd bring it back. I wonder if ppl would watch it... would you?

    • @alyssacrypto
      @alyssacrypto 2 года назад

      I love what you said. But probably people would not watch. As they would play the current thing of attacking people not ideas. And being very biased pushing agendas. Calling people insane like Bradley does in this interview is a terrible strategy for seeming rational at all, and in posession of the correct argument. They showed this in the show when in private discussions, venting, the idealized characters tried to say the other side was "evil" and get emotional about it; some character with wisdom or other perspective of calmness would set them straight. Sorkin put aside his personal views to instill this culture in the shows DNA.

    The West Wing was one of the best TV series ever. I am rewatching it now on Netflix. The GOP today is vastly different from the mid-1950's. If you're curious google their party platform and labor policy of about 1954, surprising.
