One of the best shows ever. Has anyone ever noticed how Toby talked so quietly he practically whispered but when he shouted the whole building could hear him.
It wasn’t just the phenomenal writing or the fabulous acting, it was the attention that was payed to every detail. The lighting, the placement of the characters. Every time I watch the West Wing (which is my go to series) I am amazed at the perfection
I agree!! And as someone who is a GINORMOUS Joss Whedon fan... and I mean like I watch his stuff over and over again... I've told my friends that there's only one TV/film writer so far that I know of that I like better and that's Aaron Sorkin! (obviously my personal opinion. but I think both of them are amazing geniuses when it comes to writing)
I'M visibly enthralled!! Shit, I watched this show religiously when it was on! On Wed nights at 9pm, boy, you better not call my house or knock on my door... or risk my wrath back then! *laugh*
I went to see To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway and I felt Jeff Daniels in that tan suit reminded me of Sorkin. My former student, who is in the ensemble, said that he felt Sorkin reminded him of Gregory Peck in the movie. So... Peck....Sorkin....Daniels!
This is also HUGE for me, because (I do love the West Wing), but I also love and I have declared myself the #1 fan of Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip! I love that show, and I've never never met anyone else who's seen it, unless I introduced it to them. So, I know that I am the #1 fan!
You have now! I adored that show - have the DVDs and watch them often. Like all of Aaron's shows, from "Sports Night" on, the magic is in the chemistry between the actors.
20 Hours in America is the single best episode in the history of television. The speech in the episode is the greatest speech in the history of television.
The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels? Yeah. So good. I love the whole reveal of that with Toby, Donna and Josh rushing wet into the hotel then seeing the news piece on it. The lighting, the camera work, the music - all of it was perfect. Also, Donna says "That was a pipe dream - that was folly" regarding one of her possible return scenarios and it's probably one of my favorite lines of the series. Well, besides Sam's Galileo V speech - classic. And then Leo's 'a man falls into a hole.' Dang! So many good ones!
West Wing was the best TV series UNTIL Games of Thrones. They are BOTH wonderful series, though very different. If you didn't see it, watch it on Netflix!

Josh Lyman had a tragic past. He lost a sister in a fire when a popcorn maker caught alight and he escaped while his sister didn't. His father Noah Lyman, a litigator died the night of the Illinois primary from a pulmonary embolism. In the episode "Isaac and Ishmael"- the episode dealing with 9/11 Josh mentions a box that his mother demanded he keep in his car for emergencies. There is mention of a flashlight that his mother demands he keep as well as his Mets cap.
He couldn't have been much of a fan of the show that he didn't know that Sorkin and rob lowe had a feud. Rob L. is the reason that A. Sorkin left the show. It is not a secret.
Ricardo323 wait really? I could be wrong cause I’m watching the show for the first time and am only on season 3, but I thought rob lowe left after s4 and so did Sorkin...so wouldn’t they both have left around the same time?

Loved The West Wing. The series needs to come back. Maybe with a conservative this time. I don't care. One of Martin Sheen's Sons should play his son in the series as president. Bring back The West Wing!
Originally, the plan was to have Vinick win the election then have the show restart with him, but when NBC cancelled it, the producers felt that would leave too bad a taste in everyone's mouths so they rewrote the ending.
@@philliptoole6439 The fact that John Spencer/Leo McGary died midway through the final season also made a difference. The writers decided that it would be too much if the Democratic ticket also lost the election.

He left the show because he wanted more money than the rest of the cast even though he wasn't more important than the others in the story. But he was told originally that he was going to be groomed to be Pres after Bartlett because Martin Sheen hadn't intended to be a major part of the show to begin with. So to ask for more is just greed! -- Anyway, obviously that's the actions of the actor not the character but it just kinda tainted everything for me. Mur!
It wasn't just money. Don't get me wrong; The West Wing probably saved Rob Lowe's career from being nothing but a string of straight-to-video B-Movies. However, when Rob, Brad, ect ect signed their original contracts it was with the understanding that the show was about them - not the president. Indeed, the president was only supposed to make a brief appearance and only rarely each season. And then Martin Sheen gets cast. Sorkin, having worked with Martin before and being both aware and a fan of his gravity and charm greatly expanded the role of the president in the series. (In my opinion, rightly so.) Though, this left the ensemble feeling marginalized in what was supposed to be "their show." Rob, bless him, thought he'd rebuilt enough good will and Hollywood juice to go back to movies - or at least headline a show of his own instead of "wasting his time" on a show where sometimes his only line was; "Thank you Mr. President." And what happened? A few TV movies, some lackluster shows with early cancellations, and perhaps a movie or two that nobody remembers. The short of it is, I can't blame him for feeling pushed aside - what I can fault him for is not appreciating how good he had it, regardless. A few people have walked off the "Number One show on Television" over the decades. They've all regretted it, Rob's probably no exception.

The Wire begs to differ
There are too many unique and different shows to choose one ultimate. But as far as political shows The West Wing Takes the cake.
It's a great show, but I actually prefer The Newsroom.
Matt McAdden the Newsroom was excellent but I think the cast and scriptwriting makes the west wing better
It’s wild to me that I learned more from The West Wing than I did from a year of AP US Government
