Hi :) I had all the symptoms of a burnout last year and I resigned. I haven't been working for over a year now and I still don't want to get back (first of all, looking for a job is stressful and my situation is a bit specific so I am not sure I will find anything better, then I still don't feel well about having to put my time into something so disappointing). A year sounds like a lot of time to recover, doesn't it?
But also, during the past year, my family situation has also been a struggle, so I am not sure whether my current state is still 'that' job burnout or response to some other stressful factors. Do you have any tips on how to distinguish those things, maybe specific questions to ask oneself? I am confused because I can't properly test myself unless I get a new job and realize I'm not capable of doing it, which would be quite dumb and not too encouraging, to say the least...

The length of burnout recovery is different for everybody, especially depending on the circumstances. And, other stressors outside of what caused the burnout can certainly add to recovery time! It could help to ask yourself, what would have to change (if anything) to help you feel the way you want to feel? That might help you determine what could be getting in the way/adding to stress.

@4eburawka, Thank you for sharing. I can relate so much to what you are going through. I am probably quite a bit older than you as I will be 65 yrs in September. In order to get full retirement benefits I need to wait until I am 66 & 10 months. I'm so grateful to have come across this video now.
I'm already on an antidepressant for depression which the dosage was increased about 4 years ago after my sister passed away from COVID-19. I've been working part time driving cars for a car rental agency going on for 10 years in October.
I never expected to be at this job for as long as I have. I wish I could retire now but financially it wouldn't be feasible for me and I'm lucky to have an understanding employer. I'm just not sure how long the understanding will last as I've missed quite a bit of work due to health issues & other personal issues in the last 4 years.
Yes, I am burned out but pray I will be able to hold out until July of 2026. This has been a valuable video for me. I will try some of the suggestions given and not be so hard on myself.
Looking back time seems to go so fast, but moving forward I feel I am going at a turtles pace. "One step at a time," seems a helpful slogan right now. 👍

Thanks for your vulnerability. I definitely relate. I need to identify my root and work from there.
