Way beyond “holds up”, the Police Story finale is easily some of the greatest fight and stunt choreography ever put to film

Grew up watching Jackie Chans movies and my favorite part of every single movie was waiting till the credits because they always showed a bunch of behind the scenes stunts and how he did it all and got injured a ton.

Shawkshank, T2, Pulp Fiction, Titanic, Good Will Hunting, LA Confidential, Thelma and Louise, there were some great scripts during that time and all the ones listed above were scripts they teach in any writing seminar--whether you are writing action or dramas or whatever you are looking at.

The third act is really where this movie derails, until then it's a surprisingly OK film for a DCEU flick.
It would have been so much better if instead of a CGI showdown with Mars, it turned out that this was a human conflict all along and that there was no easy solution to end the war, no arch villain to punch for a happy end. It would be the more logical conclusion of WW's arc, who starts out incredibly naive and childlike and has to confront the cruelty and reality of war and human nature generally.
You could have Diana sneak off to try to prevent the big gas attack by killing Mars only to discover that there is no Mars and get captured. Then Chris pine and his merry gang could sacrifice themselves to save WW, showing her that not all humans are irredeemably bad even if they are capable of atrocious shit.
Ive never seen this movie but this well thought out comment needs more traction.
Even with the movie wanting to blame the war on Ares, there wasn't really any reason for Ares to show up at the end. Chris Pine's character had just given a speech on how it's really a human conflict and Wonder Woman was starting to believe it. He didn't achieve anything by revealing himself, he just decided it's time for the big CGI fight and completely ruined his own cover. He must've known it was time for the end of the movie or something.

Nick is spot on in that comparison. Check out some fight scenes from movies like The Raid 1 and 2, or old boy. The choreography is mesmerizing.
@HeadshotTatertot93 yeah I know, that's what I meant. Nick's was right about how fights are done in a lot of modern movies where it's two people standing still and blasting energy at each other. As opposed to older ones that have actual fight choreography.

I remember everyone bitching about how much more the wonder woman 1988 movie sucked compared to the first one and I thought it was only like moderately worse because they're both pretty bad.
1984 dude. But yeah. WW 2017 shouldve released with Iron Man 2008. Then I wouldve thought of it as a good movie. Its boring now.
The first WW movie has a crappy script, but, it's also the typical 'origin story' that has some character development and change from the beginning to the end.
WW1984 though has an even worse script, terrible plot that's full of holes regarding the villains and major story beats, questionable direction, far too campy and cheesy content to be taken seriously, makes WW seem incredibly 'weak' as a person despite all she supposedly learned in the first film, and entire scenes that fail to drive the plot or the characters forward.
why would you watch either one lol

I didn't expect it to be, but people hype it to be a martial arts movie when it really only has that one hallway scene. It's more of an incest movie than a martial arts one.

I remember in High School I had a friend who was a real film snob (He was very smart, though and I'm still friends with him today. We lived in bumfuck northern NY but he went to the University of Chicago for college and actually reviewed movies for the school and got into movie premiers and stuff). But he asked me one day, in a condescending way "why do you like Jackie Chan fight scenes and movies" and I told him it was the way Jackie uses his environment in the choreography. My friend said "well, that's a legit reason and I can respect that." I stand by that too this day, I still go back and watch a lot of Jackie Chan clips from time to time.
I still love that fact that all amazon actresses had to speak in a fake accent because they cast an actress as WW that speaks as well english as Schwarzenegger.

The best superhero movie is still Winter Soldier because it was actual real people doing real choreography.
Yeah, it was good.
Real choreography while still paying attention to and implementing the characters' powers. Captain America running into walls, Winter Soldier punching asphalt etc. You could feel the power behind the hits and it made sense. There is nothing wrong with overpowered characters, but fights like in Wonder Woman don't care to give us the rules, and try to just win us over with big explosions. I wish more superhero movies would pay attention to the characters' actual capabilities, and not just mindless action.

I watched WW last year for the first time. I've heard million times how it's epic and awesome, I remember Rotten Tomatoes listing it on their list of 100 movies you have to watch or something, and they listed movies from 100 years ago to up to this day, so you had 12 angry men, citizen Kane, apocalypse now, empire strikes back etc... And WW was on that list. I was like, this must be serious movie then, Nope. Lamest, most generic, crap that I barely remember what it was about less then year after watching it.

Hell yeah, Nick. I saw WW because I was invited with a free pass by some friends. Kept my attention, mostly because it was loud and the lead is hot. I expected the “anything you can do I can do better” trope, so I wasn’t outraged or annoyed by any of that, honestly don’t care. Had to keep in mind it was a family film intended to inspire little girls. Her speech at the end had good intent, but definitely over the top. There was a line so horrible at the ending by one of the male characters with C-Town levels of innuendo that I threw my head back and laughed maniacally. Literally the only person who openly saw the movie for the joke it was beyond the intended catty quips.
I loved the movie because she's dumb and at the end stabs the main bad guy and then stands there all confused that all wars didn't end and a man literally has to explain it to her. It's great!

@@yanigga8445 it was bad because once you notice some things you realize nobody gave a fuck. For example, the bad guy and his scientist want a gas that corrodes through the masks worn in the trenches. So what do they pick to demonstrate the effectiveness of the gas? A civilian target. It's evil for the sake of evil, nobody actually thought about it. Then Chris Pine or whatever has to ride a motorcycle through a forest from the village to the castle. They just have chairs on the observation post. So, the village is far enough you have to drive through a forest to get to the castle, but people sitting on chairs would be able to see the effects of the gas on the masks? Even if they had binoculars all they'd see would be people dropping dead.
To be fair I'm sorta stupid so I only realized what was wrong after leaving the theater but I still noticed something was off.
Then at the end defeating Ares didn't do anything because war is part of mankind. Whoa, original. The bad guy isn't a supervillain. Then they backtrack and Ron Weasley's dad is Ares. What the hell was that?
