Continuing my Medway Canoe Trail (Revisited) series, here is video 5 in the playlist.
Hampstead Lock To Teston Lock (Downstream).
There are two options for launching or continuing down river at Yalding, these are as follows:
Option 1:
Launch from Yalding canoe platform and paddle the short distance to Hampstead Lock. Here you will need to portage and rejoin the river via either the canoe platform or slipway.
Option 2:
Launch at Hampstead Lock via the canoe platform or slipway.
If already on the river, folk left at Yalding Weir, paddle under the lifting bridge next to the EA building. Continue past the Yalding canoe platform (on the left), Hampstead Lock is approximately 300 yards alone the canalized section of the river.
Parking:
Eynsford Train Station, or along the canalized section of the river in Hampstead Lane.
My Journey:
Launching (putting in) at the canoe platform at Hampstead Lock, I headed along the navigation until I reached the junction with the River Medway. At this junction I turned left, and was now heading downstream towards Wateringbury and Teston.
Wateringbury is 1.5 miles (2.5km) downriver from Hampstead Lock. You will know when you reach Wateringbury, as it's the first road bridge you come to on this section of river. Before the bridge on the right is a small Marina where you can get food and drink at the Ramblers Rest Cafe.
Continue down river for another 1.2 miles (2km) and you will come to Teston Lock with Teston Country Park on the left behind the trees
