Marvellous, I did this in 73 from the weir pool at Leigh in a canvas kayak. Stayed with me ever since and I'm still wild canoe camping...................
Nice one Nick, I've just watched this following a link on FB group...👍 That looked like a great paddle & recognised the last bit in Maidstone & the Malta Inn...!😄 Looking to watching some of your other stuff & subscribed...👊😎
I grew up in Five Oak Green and would often make the trek out to East Lock. Some of my happiest childhood memories are of fishing, swimming and playing on a rope swing there, although I never once caught any fish! Thanks so much for sharing this video and allowing me to see such a special place again after several decades of living overseas.
Really enjoyed this. You captured the trip well. Thx for sharing👍
Remarkable. Once my home water, 1990s. No canoe passes. Portage around all locks. Good memories.
Throughly enjoyed your trip super relaxing ... I will certainly do a similar trip ... look forward to the wee rapids 😂 at the locks ...
👍😎👍
ps hopefully you didn't waste that beer at the end 🍺
I keep going back to do it. It’s a lovely paddle. That beer is never wasted! Enjoy.
Thanks! Funnily enough I’m back on it right now! Coming into Yalding. It’s as beautiful as ever.
Stevie it's stevie again .great filming of the medway you cracked me up had me in stitches 🤣 I'm not stopping at that spooky place I wouldn't sleep all night .keep up the great filming and great humour. Steve
Thank you for this, excellent work Well done Nick. As a plus I managed to see my old Signal Box (where I was a signal man 40+ years ago) at Wateringbury :)
Loved this! Brought back some very happy memories. Not paddled some of those sections for many years.
Thank you for sharing this. Was looking for some insight into the trail - trying to assess how I'd fare as a novice - and this has provided. Looks feasible for me to do
Very nice and interesting your tour and filming!
Stunning vid of our glorious countryside. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! It is glorious.
Lovely video. Can't wait for the summer!
Same here!
Really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing.
We are paddling most of the first half of your journey tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this both a useful reminder and a beautifully filmed piece. I loved the music for Sluice Weir Lock….where I’ve had many adventures (including a open boat sinking) . Fun!
Very informative video. Thanks. I will try to repeat it. Last summer i did trip from Thames source to London.
Great video, really enjoyed this and planning the same trip in the next couple of months!
Thanks. Enjoy!
Hi mate just subbed
That is by far the best video of the canals and rivers I have seen by a long shot gonna check out the info as would love to come down (From Manchester ) to do this at some point.Well done 👍✌️
Well, you've not just made me plan another trip. now to convince the mrs to come pick me up at the end mark.
Lovely video thankyou for posting it up on here. I'm interested in planning a trip with friends this summer.
Have fun!
Great vid Nicholas! It’s a beautiful river isn’t it. I’m lucky enough to be at Yalding and get to paddle it very frequently. Love it👍
It is lovely. Trying to squeeze in a paddle this week if I can get a sunny day.
Sun is out tomorrow and I’ll be there. Ha . 🤪🛶
Went here today! Amazing 😻
Edit: at 2:01 I saw a giant pike there
Waiting for gale force winds to come through, so this video has been a nice reminder of how things can be. I probably won’t ever canoe the Medway, but now I feel I could. I liked the lack of commentary, very relaxing, and the short but plentiful captions. One question; we didn’t see another boat on the water for the whole vid. It can’t have been lockdown, so where were they?
Thank you. It was the summer post lockdown/in between lockdowns so far fewer boats on the river. Also mid-week and not in holiday season. It would be a different story at the weekend... I got incredibly lucky with the timing and the weather. A freak hot September. I have done it many times since and it can still be quiet mid-week.
Very nice thank you. I would love to go on the river on a boat but I cannot swim and I am a bit scared of going under the water in a kayak. I am tempted to get a dingy but not sure if it could go in those narrow areas. What do you suggest for a budget bouyancy aid for someone who cannot swim ie adult
Great vid , thank you for posting. Can you canoe back to Tonbridge ?
You can. Current usually not too strong. You just have to portage the locks.
I've done the river Wye a couple of times now, this looks excellent! The Medway trail is one I've had my eye on for a while now. What did you do about parking & transport? Or did you paddle back?
I used Maidstone as a base, and took a taxi to Tonbridge in the morning, and another from Allington at the end.
@@NicksAdventures999 thanks! 👍
Great video mate, roughly how long do you think it would take to start at tonbridge castle and finish as either wateringbury train station or East Farleigh ?? (we’re getting the train back to tonbridge) thanks in advance
Many thanks. As always, it depends on the canoe and weather (wind) conditions. I was in a solo inflatable (so probably the slowest!) and not much wind. For that trip I started at 9.15am in Tonbridge and arrived at East Farleigh 16.15 (almost in the dark then), moving time 6hr 20 (my app tells me), fairly leisurely with a few tributaries (recorded 23k). Two will probably be a bit quicker. Good easy exit point at East Farleigh, and very close to the train station. Plenty of time in the summer months. Enjoy!
Fantastic video. I've paddled some of these sections since seeing this.
What did you film it on?
Many thanks. GoPro Hero 7 Black. I just did the trail again recently, overnight at Marlin camp. 'twas fantastic.
@@NicksAdventures999 Cool, thanks for the reply. It is a fantastic stretch of river!
Can I ask, did you have any trouble with the skeg going down those passes at East Lock and Oak Weir lock? I have a small inflatable I'm planning to take along there soon.
I had no troubles, though it sometimes tips a little. One central one was fine, often there is a central dip (in between the brushes) on the canoe passes. Having 3 kegs as some paddle boards have might be more tricky.
Rookie question, how do you traverse the canoe passes going in the other direction….portage every time?
Portage every time!
Awesome video, really nicely made and looks like you had a good couple days weather! I'm going to do this route on Saturday, plan to start where you dud but end at Teston. Reckons that's comfortable enough starting at midday?
Thanks. Should be ok with the long June days. I’ve since done it all in one day, but you need the long days.
Where can I get a canoe like yours? Would love to try this, complete novice but always wanted to explore the rivers in Kent
Lots of types out there. Weight and cost amongst other things to look at. I got this one as only 9kg weight, so I can carry it ok, take it on a train with kit, put it in the back of a taxi etc.

@@NicksAdventures999 thanks for taking the time to reply. I’ll check this link out and do some research
do you need to remove the skegs on an inflatable?
I have one central skeg which I have never needed to remove. Not sure if you have more…
Hi, our boat arrived today, we are going to tonbridge this weekend. Do you know where in Tonbridge we need to start our journey from. Thank you
I would start at the slipway in Lower Castle Field car park. Right next to the swimming pool and castle. Enjoy!
@@NicksAdventures999 thank you, much appreciated
@@NicksAdventures999 thank you, we are here now 🥰🥰🥰😍😍
@@IrmaBermudez fantastic. I’m a day ahead. Just finished and at the Malta Inn. Enjoy. Lovely weather!
@@NicksAdventures999 thank you, the weekend was amazing, we all stayed at a camping site near by. Have a lovely day 🥰🥰
What license do i need to tak my 11 year old 2 sepeeate boats?
I would check with British canoeing. They may do a family membership?
Is this possible on an inflatable kayak
This was an inflatable kayak! Yes!
Why the music? Leave the natural sounds on the video
Personally I liked the music and lack of commentary, but each to their own…..
