      Hi. I did a very relaxed paddle in a not fast tracking kayak. I think I left around 10.30 am, arrived around 6.30-7pm or so. I’ve done Bath-Bristol early start, and got stuck at Nathan lock as it got dark around 6pm. Flow can vary, usually gentle in the summer, can be strong in the winter..

    I have paddled quite a lot on lakes in inflatable kayaks but just picked up Stearns Pivot whitewater kayak to try whitewater river kayaking. The Pivot is much more manoeuvrable on the flat lacking skegs and hence a bit harder to paddle straight. This gives me confidence to try some basic grade whitewater.

    • @NicksAdventures999
      @NicksAdventures999 11 месяцев назад

      Hi yes I did. Upside down, submerged many times practicing rolls and rescues etc. Did the job perfectly. I wonder if with time a latex seal works better? Not sure. If I wanted regular whitewater with rolls I might consider a latex neck gasket, but for only intermittent dunking it’s great.

      @@NicksAdventures999 thanks for that Nick, I’m considering a dry suit, as I do kayaking in lakes and in the sea. I am concerned about a latex seal giving me neck rashes, but wasn’t sure if a neoprene neck seal would be good enough.

    Waiting for gale force winds to come through, so this video has been a nice reminder of how things can be. I probably won’t ever canoe the Medway, but now I feel I could. I liked the lack of commentary, very relaxing, and the short but plentiful captions. One question; we didn’t see another boat on the water for the whole vid. It can’t have been lockdown, so where were they?

    • @NicksAdventures999

      Thank you. It was the summer post lockdown/in between lockdowns so far fewer boats on the river. Also mid-week and not in holiday season. It would be a different story at the weekend... For that trip I started at 9.15am in Tonbridge and arrived at East Farleigh 16.15 (almost in the dark then), moving time 6hr 20 (my app tells me), fairly leisurely with a few tributaries (recorded 23k). Two will probably be a bit quicker. Good easy exit point at East Farleigh, and very close to the train station. Plenty of time in the summer months. Enjoy!
