Thanks for this Dave, we retraced your paddle strokes on Friday starting at the canal centre and turning back at the end of the Farnborough runway - where we stopped and turned back when we last paddled from Crookham. It was great to link the two paddles and all thanks to you. Much appreciated. Totally agree about the Canal Centre, it's a great facility with lovely people. I'm pondering the possibility of camping on one of those sunken barges next year. Anyway, thank you again.

How desperately sad. I’ve been doing some filming for Boortmalt in Bury St Edmunds and there’s a model of ENA in their boardroom. One of the staff members talked about the races they did in her with Paul’s Malt. I had no idea she was now rotting away. There’s a documentary film in this - if anyone has any archive footage or photos I’d be fascinated to see them

Yes, it is very sad. I first saw Ena at the Hoo graveyard in 2016. From what I have managed to find out, she was moored at Stargate Marina a year earlier. My main interest in her was her participation in Operation Dynamo during WW2, however, while doing my research before my recent visit I found myself captivated by her incredible life. Such a terrible way to treat such a beautiful badge, and to add to the insult, the owner has put a sign on her saying "Danger keep off, private property"

Those portable urinals are super useful for kayaking! It’s often not possible to get out for a number of reasons, such as the banks being too steep and muddy. On the sea, it can be sheer cliffs or maybe you’re paddling off an exposed section of coast with breakers crashing on the shore.

I had a lateral and medial meniscus tear. I had to decide whether to have surgery. One surgeon said I might get arthritis if I had the surgery. I said I wanted to go on an open canoe trip which involves kneeling for most of the time. He said forget it! Anyway I decided to do exercises for meniscus tears which involves strengthening other parts of the legs. I also undertook yoga like the hero pose. The knees don't have a blood supply but they have synovial fluid. Hero pose increases that. First I could not kneel at all as my leg was stiff. I used a blanket under the knees and blocks and gradually it got better. I went on the canoeing holiday with no problems. My knees have been fine. It takes a lot of time but the body wants to heal.

@@DavidWilsonOutandAbout The aerial shots elevate the filming quality greatly, and you've really got to grips with all the research (which I find interesting) and post production. It's the post production that I am starting to learn more about at the moment, where the timeline has up to 4 or 5 elements for the 1 bit that you can see and hear. It's a very enjoyable hobby, and is nice watch your videos and see what you have produced. Thanks for sharing them Dave.

@@markbenson5821 Thanks, Mark. The production side of things is challenging but rewarding in the long run. The narration is my biggest challenge at the moment. Getting the right emotional tone to fit the scene, and the amount of retakes is frustrating. With a bit of patience, I will crack it 😉

@@DavidWilsonOutandAbout I know what you mean, I'm not a fan of hearing my voice, which is why I usually just happily play music, but some people have said to me, do you ever talk in your videos? So thought I'd give it go with the London one. Still not a fan, but may from time to time say a few words. One thing I did learn is that I needed a mic when outside and have just ordered a Rode Wireless ME and media mod for the GoPro, that'll take another week or so to learn how that works.

@@markbenson5821 It took me a long time to feel confident talking on camera while out kayaking, camping, or hiking. After a while, I thought, just be yourself. After that, I just started talking to the camera as if I was talking to a friend, which relaxed me and made it much easier. I have a Rode Wireless Go and a DJI Mic 1, but my go-to mic now is the Hollyland Lark M2. The Lark 2 is plug-and-play and much smaller and lighter than my other wireless mics. The main thing is that you enjoy recording and producing your videos, you are doing a great job of it, Mark. 👍

My Dad got hold of an MTB after WW2, he served 4 years in India, and when he came home he was in charge of The Sea Scouts in Norwich. He was looking for a boat for them to use for training and was gifted the MTB. They used it on the Norfolk Broads. It’s still there somewhere, but it’s now underwater… 🙄

Another part of our history rotting away! Unfortunately, these wooden boats cost a fortune to maintain and restore and once they get to this stage then even if she was saved there would probably be less than 5% of her which is original! Hopefully they have the lines of her? I’m from the other side of the England in Pill, Somerset which was the home of the legendary Bristol Pilot cutter (known locally as a skiff) and so many of these fine vessels were either sold on as yachts and then left to rot or either broken up after steam took over in 1922. I’m good friends with a brave man who restored an original Pill build skiff and the end result is a truly beautiful boat but the cost was unbelievable and there’s only a few parts left which came out of Pill. So is she original? I like to say she is but then I’m a Pill Shark! 🦈⚓️🦈⚓️ Nice channel so I’ll be watching more.. thanks
