Over The Garden Wall is the perfect halloween and fall time tv mini series to watch. Wirt and Greg are stepbrothers on Hallows eve afraid of the unknown. created by Patrick McHale for Cartoon Network. encountering a variety of strange and fantastical things on their journey. Beatrice, Adelaide, The Highway man, Jason Funderburger.
#overthegardenwall #reaction #cartoon
Fun Fact: in the original draft of this show, Wirt was originally going not be able to leave the Unknown, leaving Greg as the only one who would make it out of there.
I mean, I wouldn't mind that ending. Wirt could go after Beatrice at that point 😅
That would be really sad, but I would like to see that in the show
Someone made a comic based off that but it's a crossover with gravity falls.
Dipper ends up walking thru the woods not really knowing how he got there and he meets wirt. And over time you learn that wirt had decided to stay behind to let Greg live. And apparently Dipper was trying to stop bills rampage when he was possessing dippers body. A lot of time has passed because Dipper remembers a memory of when he was in the hospital when he was younger about a man who would put on puppet shows and one of the stories was about a kids with a cone hat and a cape. And another with a tea kettle. And how if you ever find yourself lost in the woods. Always find and follow the boy with a cone hat and cape. He will safely guide you where you need to go. Its a good comic definitely recommend
It goes without saying that OTGW is the absolute greatest miniseries ever created by Cartoon Network! It's the perfect show to watch during both the Halloween and Thanksgiving seasons! Everything about this show is amazing, The story, the animation, the voice acting, All of it I especially love that they got famous actors like Elijah Wood and Christopher Lloyd to voice characters like Wirt and the Woodsman!
I never watched it because it seemed boring should I give it another chance?
@@okbutytho7 Yes you should it is amazing
I think it ties with Infinity Train
They also got John Cleese and Tim Curry as Quincy Endicott/Adelaide and Auntie Whispers
Bad vibes beyond this point ⚠️
I genuinely didn’t think it was that good. It was okay at best. Served as good background noise, but not nearly as good as most people think. I’m genuinely so confused- I mean- did I miss something??? Was I not paying as close attention as I should’ve?? I don’t know, but I seem to be the odd man out here lol
Shoutout to Tim Curry as the voice of Auntie Whispers! Even though he was paralyzed by a stroke, he still continues to do excellent voice acting like an absolute champ
He did the voice of Whispers while paralyzed? That's amazing!
Sounds pretty based to me
@@coffeebreak7668based indeed
THAT WAS TIM CURRY??
Fun fact: When Elisha Woods was asked what his favourite project he has ever worked on was, he said it was Over the Garden Wall.
I seriously doubt that. Over the Garden Wall is great, but Lord of the Rings is the GOAT
@@trequor yeah Lord of the rings was good but it wasn't his favorite work he's done. I could be wrong but the interview was on Hot Ones I think
@@dizz6340 I would be shocked. He spent two years in New Zealand making friends for life with the most talented, passionate people in the country. It's a pretty unique and incredible experience, especially compared to sitting in a booth reciting lines
I don’t blame him
For those wondering why it was so trippy, the highway man dance and song is actually a reference to Cab Calloway and the way he would sing and dance. One of the more popular versions of his style is in a Betty Boop cartoon where he sang St. James Infirmary and they rotoscoped his dancing to one of the ghosts.
Brooo cab Calloway is sick
Woah that's so cool!
over the garden wall is genuinely one of my favorite shows of all time. it checks all of the boxes for me. it’s hilarious, the animation is stunning and timeless, the soundtrack is amazinggg, i could go on and on lol.
Over the garden wall could be considered as one of the pinnacles of western animation when it comes to story telling 🔥🔥🔥
Potatoes... and molasses...
@@Blimbus-Blombo"finally, some good fokin' food" - Gordon Ramsay
@@KraidTheSpacePirate his British ass would like those lol
The editor went all out for this one. The fact that they edited in Kor’s “salmon” a few times in the video was absolutely essential. I will die on this hill.
Edit: it’s actually Jack’s Salmon, im sorry
It’s Jack’s Salmon
Salmon... yes
@@SpillingTheMilki wish that became a running gag for the channel
Kor's reaction to hearing Bone's animated series getting cancelled is so real.
Bro, that shit crushed my soul.
i've never read bone, but i want to now
I’ve said it multiple times before, and I’ll say it again: Elijah Wood was a fantastic choice for Wirt. Remember Tron Uprising? (Probably not since that was like two seasons of extra Tron content Disney gave us, and nothing more.) Beck was like the only notable animated character I remember hearing Elijah Wood voice before Over the Garden Wall came out. I don’t know how to describe his voice; probably charismatic and calming.
I want him to give my eulogy when I die
Thank you for remembering Tron Uprising!! Elijah Wood did an amazing job voicing in that show!!
@@thelegendkeeper4507 That show was one of like five Disney XD shows I consider high in action animation quality that deserved way more attention and more episodes (to me, the others are Penn Zero, Kick Buttowski, Randy Cunningham, and Motorcity)
HAHAHA EDEN GUESSING THE SHOW AND BASICALLY BEING RIGHT SO JACK HAD TO BULLSHIT IT OUT😭
He did a *really* good bullshit tho. I’m impressed.
Forever a modern Cartoon Network classic for the fall and winter season. Art, music, story, dialogue, theme - all peak!
18:27
I did not recognize this voice at first. Then I looked up who it was and my jaw hit the floor. I was so surprised and overjoyed to hear the voice of Long John Silver, AKA Tim Curry. I knew he had had a stroke and was not doing any live action acting anymore, so of course just hearing his voice makes me so emotional.
YES over the garden wall is so good, the 1800s-early 1900s aesthetic of it is amazing and the music is wonderful, imo one of the best series cn has had. the art direction is 10/10.
OTGW left me sad and empty, with a massive void eating me from the inside out. Just like every great piece of media! 10/10 show.
love over the garden wall so so much!! perfect autumn spooky show, i've watched it every halloween and this year my friends will join too, hope they enjoy it as much as i do
Sounds great!
Gonna do the same!! 😅
There's this comic where Dipper is lost in the woods after a fight with Mabel and Wirt finds him. They spend a LOT of time talking about their siblings and how Wirt assures Dipper that he should go find his sister and love her properly/apologize as he felt he treated Greg.. not the best and siblings are important.
It's very wonderful, two characters I loved at the time discussing their siblings. Only for you to find out, Dipper is actually also on the verge of death but he chooses to go home thanks to Wirt! This isn't some random encounter of two people, it's actually THE Woods. At their tearful goodbye. you see Dipper's family as he wakes up and Wirt goes off back into the woods to help more lost souls find their way out. Only for you to realize that Wirt chose to stay lost in the woods as he sacrificed himself for Greg to go home and stay alive.
The way the comic artist wrote it out made me not even realize they were in the woods of limbo. I had been believing they were both mutually in Oregon and this was just a fun fan comic since the vibes were similar. It's a comic I've cherished for 8-9 years now and like in my previous comment. I read it every year since I found it after my YEARLY october rewatch of this series back in 2014.
I love how every episode just seems like Greg and Wirt just being Greg and Wirt and goofing around like children but at the time it’s building up to the ending with the beast, plus the foreshadowing with the clips at the beginning is beautiful
Elijah Wood's voice in OTGW is just so soothing. It melts my heart whenever I hear it 🤭
I genuinely love this show. It's so fun.
Finally you guys cover this masterpiece! This really felt like a passion project more than anything else Cartoon Network made.
Thank you for covering this show. I love it so much and to me it purely distills the essence of fall down into a single package. The soundtrack, the characters, the art direction, the melancholy, it is all simply perfect. Definitely a perfect time to be watching it.
The coziness of this show while still being unsettling is why I look forward to watching this show every fall. The perfect Halloween vibes!
I watched this in high school and only recently decided to rewatch it bc for some reason I couldn’t remember why I kept telling myself to not rewatch this show, I remembered after rewatching it, it’s so perfect and sad I never want it to end so the ending leaves me bittersweet, GREAT FANTASTIC SHOW. I cried both times I watched it, and I will definitely cry again in a few years when I rewatch this masterpiece, I can only describe this show as an emotionally detailed beautiful painting fit perfectly into a ten episode series ❤ one of my faves of all time and by far my most favorite short series of any animated work of art
Over the garden wall could be considered as the pinnacle of story telling in western animation 🔥🔥🔥
OMG. OVER THE GARDEN WALL WAS MY CHILDHOOD. I LOVED THIS SHOW SO MUCH IM SO GLAD YOU GUYS WATCHED IT.
Omg yes!! I recently did my yearly rewatch of this show! It’s so amazing!! I love the immediate recontextualization the penultimate episode gives for the whole show! The art is so pretty and the music is divine! I can’t say enough good things about this show!
I LOVED this miniseries when I first saw it! Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since tho.. seriously tho it has the same story/charm you’d see in a Studio Ghibli movie mixed with the same Atmosphere as Wes Anderson films. It also Oozes that Old School cartoon energy while pairing it with Modern dialogue and storybook elements.
"We need free bird"
"We need chicken run"
"We need cookie run" *loud coughing*
That was the spilling the milk moment of all time
I remember wanting to watch this as a kid when it premiered but I just didn't get the chance. Finally watched it last year and rewatching it around this time of year is now added to my Fall traditions, it is my favorite Cartoon Network series if we're counting miniseries.
Wirt really is a good brother.
Anyone else would’ve ran out on Greg during the first night.
But who could leave Greg? He's so adorable!
4:43 Never have I been hit with such deep-seated nostalgia, having it happily awaken after so many years, get incredibly excited at the prospect of Bone animated, get immediately shot with disappointment, and then lose my faith in humanity in such a microscopic time span before in my life
wish we saw the reaction to wirt's 'are you?' with the voice crack lmao that's the hardest line in the entire show
10:30 We should’ve gotten more episodes with the Highway Man. He’s the real GOAT.
04:31 It's a movie where we go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu.
This show is so good, the perfect example of a mini series that has a great atmosphere and plot
4:44 not just the bone series, they had an adaptation of the Redwall books in the works before it got cancelled. Executives hate these guys.
Over the Garden Wall is literally my favourite TV show of all time I even have it all on DVD I was so happy to see this video come out with the 10/10 rating
Hot damn, you guys chose perfectly; especially for the season. This show is the GOAT of the modern era; best show that CN has released in recent times. Plus, a good way to start kids in liking Folk Horror. Plus, FUN FACT: the settings, episode numbers and other parallels have led fans to theorize that it's a reimagining of Dante's Inferno.
Always love seeing it be some kind of unspoken tradition of people watching Over the Garden Wall on Halloween
Also, that salmon bit got me so hard, idk why lmao
14:42 that is infact a cuphead map, the one you are refering to is that one with the two giant frogs i believe
Bro, I was so bummed that this didn’t get a season two I haven’t been this upset about an animated show since infinity train. Either way both solid shows.
OTGW was never meant to have a season two. However, Infinity Train was meant to have more than it got.
@@rosykindbunny1313 I know that it wasn’t announced a second season i just am disappointed since I kinda wished there was more of it.
As much as I would have loved more of OTGW, I’m honestly perfectly content with where it left off as it really does leave the rest of the Unknown to the well unknown. It’s such a phenomenal short series though I agree.
@@austinbusumbru123 if you want more over the garden wall, there are some comics. From what I heard they're pretty good
@@Karas540 I’ll check them out. Thanks.
the heartbeat when Eden asks whats up and then them going "yeah he's dead" goes so hard.
this show. chef kiss it to death. I watched this every week when it premiered in 2014. And since then it has become my ritual to watch it through every october. I can't believe it's been almost 10 years.
my art class is actually decorating the halls after the show!! i got to draw and paint auntie whispers
This is my favorite show period. Hope you enjoy it!
This is probably one of the best things CN has ever put out, such an intriguing journey with fall being a great backing season with change. It also has some very dark moments but is balanced out by some great comedic levity with Greg who always has hilarious lines every time. I just love this show and I’m glad the Milk bois do too
16:42 With Greninja being my favorite Pokémon, I normally wouldn’t be laughing at that joke, but that joke was too funny. 😂 (And given how long Greninja’s tongue is, I can’t help but think about that further…)
I'm the Highwayman...
This show is SO good, me and my brother make sure to watch it every year on halloween.
i gotta rewatch this show every autumn it’s just so good
this is my favorite miniseries to watch every fall I love it
I absolutely love this show. I rewatch it every autumn. So happy to see how much you guys liked it
A masterpiece, and that's a rock fact.
YES! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!! MY FAVORITE SHOW!!! ❤❤❤
I’ve been waiting for them to watch this since before i was born
I watched this when it first came out on Cartoon Network, rewatched it a few years later, and just last year my Univ Writing professor showed it to the class and had us write an essay on it. Mine was about the thematic elements and bits of dialogue that support the theory that The Unknown is actually Purgatory
Absolutely fantastic memories I have share with this. I remember waiting every week for another episode. Really an amazing show.
i have to rewatch otgw at LEAST every halloween it's so good 😭
“i used to be really good at ballet but my mom wanted me to be a wrestler” the background lines in this miniseries is so funny.
Yo, watching you guys while drinking makes this 10 times more funny.
This is one of my favorite series of all time. Very glad that you guys got around to it!
This is my all time favorite show ever. That’s saying a lot lol, but if I had to choose only one show to watch forever it would be this. I host an annual marathon every fall where I invite over friends and watch the whole series! Partly to introduce new people to the series. Mostly, because I love this series!! And it’s a way to make it feel fresh and new again
This video was the exact length I needed to make a chain mail square out of pop tabs.
I’ve watched the video in 6 minutes and I can confirm they binged over the garden wall
24:10 that's Patrick McHale.
i want a tattoo of the huntsmans lantern. i have a design saved to my phone. literally i love this show so much
3:52 Beatrice is voiced by Melanie Lynskey.
*The best Cartoon Network cartoon? Yes*
This is such a good mini series, I've made it a personal tradition to watch this every autumn 😁
Gosh I love this show. I showed it to my husband this year around mid/late October because it’s just become a staple for every year around this time. I always get excited when I get to pull out my fall playlist and just vibe to it while working or driving or just relaxing.
Hope ya'll got to watch the pilot as well, it's awesome.
Also, shoutout to Melanie Linsky in "American" mode-- that's not her real voice, but she does it in everything and it is ADORABLE.
17:16 considering the fact that Jack’s country, Canada, has a geese as a national animal, it probably makes sense
"How does a frog commit suicide??"
Obviously he "kermits" suicide, badumtish
How did Velma get in max, but this show didn’t????
14:55 the way i had this exact same experience a few days ago watching the show with a friend who hadn't seen it before
19:47 "Salmon!"
Lol editor needs a raise
Fun fact: In the part where Wirt has to sing, the writers didn't write anything for the voice actor, letting him just make up something on the fly, Greg's voice actor yelled at him "Sing, lover!"
11:35
OH MY GOD THEY FUCKING PREDICTED IT
Gorrpe
YES
*dons trimmed Christmas hat*
INTO THE UNKNOWN
Love the atmosphere. Month 3 asking for Good Burger 🍔🍟 and Dreamworks Chicken Run and Wallace and gromit curse of the Wererabbit 🦔🐣🙏🏽
You've been asking for that long
Wirt would be beating that bird like Robert Pattinson did in The Lighthouse
My brother works at a haunted house and last night three kids came in and they were singing the “potatoes and molasses” song
@@knight4878 idk he didn’t really tell me that much
It’s so funny that this went up as I was working a YTP/edit of the series.
As an Australian, I was so confused with the Adelaide song
That princess poster gives me so much nostalgia. It’s like that in between right before they dropped the 00s hot pink and glitter aesthetic of that merch but started including Tiana in the line up
I’ve only seen OTGW once, but honestly it scared the mess out of me….I think I might give this another shot now that I’m older
If COTC doesn't get binged I will be so sad, it's genuinely a chill cartoon
I’m so glad I caught this one before it was too late. I’ll have to rewatch it someday
My bf showed me this series last fall and I was sobbing by the end. He’d seen it before and was crying too. We’re both a bunch of softies. 😅
Everyone give them 50,000 likes, more people need to watch Craig of the Creek.
I never loved a show more than OTGW and i'm going 18 soon, without a doubt since i was 8 has this been my fav
This show is a euphemism for death. The garden was the living the garden wall is limbo. Then they died. Every episode is a different layer of hell/limbo.
I remember back when this was advertised. I was at my granny's house for the usual dinner at her house and I used to leave channels on before turning the TV off in the room that was once my uncle's but then used for my sister and I when we visited. I never watched it at that time since I never really watched Cartoon Network consistently until about mid-late 2014 and it was only for Gumball. It wasn't until I think maybe the summer of this year that a friend of mine showed me and my other friend this show and we watched it in one sitting. I realized I missed out and that it was an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE! After that I decided to rewatch it for the Halloween season and did so in the last week of September.
You guys missed the best scene
I’m talking about he threaten the beast when the beast said nooo he was like sigma
Finally I’ve been waiting for this one!!!
the last episode of the over the garden wall with that scene where teapot kid has those trees around him that shit traumatized me as a kid
Fun Fact: Clarence and Over The Garden Wall take place in the same universe. In the episode "Lil Buddy", you see Wirt and Greg's silhouettes walking in the distant while Clarence is burying his Lil Buddy.
I've been waiting for this one can't beleive i missed the stream
This show made me feel sad happy and funny
BONE WAS GONNA GET A NETFLIX SHOW?! MY DAY, WEEK, YEAR AND LIFE IS RUINED!!
Also, this is a superb show! 10/10
Constantly thinking about Christopher Lloyd as the woodsman
