Very true Andrew, as you know money is not easy to earn and I’ve always been brought up to watch the pennies. I make a point by giving back like you said by spending with the locals rather than corporations. Thank you.
Bhaktapur was heavily damaged during the earthquakes of 2015 (as was Durbar Square in Kathmandu). They have been rebuilding the ancient temples. It takes a lot of money. It is an amazing place. And it’s a one time fee for a week! I can’t believe how absurd people are. If you are too cheap to pay to enter a beautiful historic city center (and contribute to its restoration) then perhaps just stay home. 😂
I understand you are a budget traveller, so you would not want to pay the entry fee. Fair enough. You have the choice to avoid the place, and I understand it might be out of your budget. The ticketed area is not the entire Bhaktapur city mate. You are not charged to visit other places in the city, and I am sure you knew about the ticket price from your initial research before going there. You could have elected not to even go there in the first place rather than being so critical about the ticket price. There are numerous sites in Kathmandu valley that are free or cost less to visit ( like bouddha, swyambhunath, patan durbar square, Nagarkot, etc). It's an UNESCO heritage site, which is itself a museum. It is maintained and preserved from the ticket funds raised from the tourists. But I am surprised you said England would not charge to enter anywhere in the city. If so, you got easy on arrival visa for almost nothing but if I have to visit England as a budget traveller, I would have to pay hundreds of pounds to just apply for visa and it takes months to even get a visa. Also, I can not go to England and say that they can not charge hundreds of pounds for accommodation when I have to spend so much money and time to buy aeroplane tickets and visit England. Asia is cheap for accommodation and food doesn't mean I should expect a similar situation in England. I have been your regular viewer and like most of your content. Thank you for visiting Nepal, and I hope you are enjoying your time in Nepal.🙏
Hi Dev I wasn’t comparing it to England as a whole and I did pay a visa fee to enter Nepal and also hundreds of pounds for my flight. I was comparing it to places i have been in Asia. I would understand a fee to museums etc as I said in the vlog. Even Durban square I thought the 1000 was harsh but 1800 was over the top. I’ve seen many amazing places here in Asia and paid a fraction of that, it wasn’t the fact that I’m a budget traveller it was that it was expensive for what was there. I did love visiting Nepal and I will be back thank you. Also I had no idea about the fee being nearly double of that in Kathmandu and it being such a large area.

Hi Richy. What a lovely little town, full of character. Re the £10 entry fee it did seem a bit steep. In previous video you were saying that you are not interested in this kind of historical sites so you are not paying but later you were travel around the historical sites anyway WITHOUT paying..you didn't only visit like that but you upload it and gives idea about it and that's okay we didn't say anything but you were still complaining about money for a such a small places bla bla though that was a UNESCO heritage sites...now again...As a tourist you may feel like paying money for just entering in the city but it is again UNESCO heritage sites as UNESCO protect such places because it's different and unique than any others places around the world. I'm sure you are also aware of that. And it has always been a whole city as a living museum. I you able to see differently, if you give the value for these places then you will realize that it is much needed. Why? Because It's just a rupees first. Second it's a well maintained places and it has been doing preety good jobes on that. If you see the bhaktapur, the whole area it is well preserved and well maintained. It is different from other cities in Nepal. I live in kethamandu but i feel different vibes whenever i visit bhaktapur. Didn't you see any differences than any other places you have visited? Third there are many projects and programs are held from bhaktapur durbar square and it needs money for that. Fourth there are many renovation happened and still happening there. Many buildings are fell during earthquake. Bhaktapur has well maintained and renovated faster compare to other durbar Square. You didn't see like that did you? Yes Nepal is a poor country and many corruption happened in Nepal. We don't deny on that. But it's not always the case. And last there is option not to visit. There are more reasons like that.. But as I have already seen your last video I really didn't like what you did there and again same things complaining about money so it's really irritating sometimes. It's okay you don't want to pay then you can skip these places. But you also want to see that places and you don't want to pay a penny but you have to complain about it anyway. Okay corruption is not good and i agree on that. If you feel so then don't pay. We are okay with that. And What about not paying any money, break the rules and visit that area anyway? Is that okay with you?
To be fair, It's not as bad as Bhutan charging 100 dollars per day fee just to set foot in the country and all other expenses are yours. It's a country with poor economy. Not much industry there. With what will they maintain those ancient structures ? Tower of London charges 35 pounds.
To be honest mate it was just that it was such a large area and for that cost it didn’t really interest me. Durban square I can understand but not a city centre.

You shouldve deffo given a tenner to go in the city. Just average it across £4 hotel fees to make all hotels £6. Absolutely ridiculous to stress over this. Back in the UK we add up all our good financial luck, like car passing mot this week with no extra work, to pay for the bad. If you focus on financial bad news only (£10 fee, no breakfast for £4 - £4 ffs! - then you'll be perma-angry. Love your vids though. Fellow leeds (and darlo) fan here for my sins - from richmond.
Thank you again mate I appreciate you sending me that and I will mention the friends and family on the next shout out. It’s good to hear your a fellow Darlo and Leeds support for all of our sins haha they’ve gone through some crazy times in the last 10 years. The breakfast and the city tax they didn’t really bother me, the breakfast I was just telling him to take it off the site as it might lead to unwanted bad reviews. When the camera was off I actually said if he supplied a one pound breakfast I’d of being happy to pay £3-4 more as it was really cheap and it would help his profits. The City tax if it was somewhere that really interested me then I wouldn’t mind paying like I do in national parks etc but I just thought it was a bit harsh in such a large area. If it was half the price I would of just for the vlog.
I don't care how impressive or ancient a site is, putting an overpriced paywall on entry means we have 0 interest in visiting. Tourist trap F these places that treat guests like walking ATMs.

Totally with you on this one Richy. People saying”oh but they are poor”,and”it’s a historic city” and”they use the entrance fee for maintenance of the buildings”. Please spare me that BS. The UK is one of the most historic countries in the world, maybe we should start charging tourists(not UK citizens) £25 to enter London, or say £20 to visit Salisbury, or maybe £25 to go into Edinburgh? What it is, is a tax on what they see as easy targets with lots of money, noting less. If any is naive enough to actually think that that “entrance fee” actually goes into the upkeep of that city, they’ve probably only been to Asia on a 2 week holiday!
This fee is used by Bhaktapur municipality for maintenance of heritages but also mostly goes to the schools, colleges and hospitals run by the municipality. There's 0 corruption in this municipality. The political party and entity in this city is unique to this city only and found nowhere else in Nepal. Big political parties of Nepal which are always corrupt have never won the elections in this city. Now, they're gathering funds to build a university which will offer medical courses at 3 or 4 times lesser fee than the other existing medical colleges in Nepal. They are already running engineering colleges at half the fee the other private colleges in Nepal requires.

It's ok to charge westerners 3 or 4 times what you charge Asians.
I didn’t realise it was such a big area or I wouldn’t of gone there at all.
Very true Matthew, tourist tax mate and all of the temples here are the same anyway.
Been watching ya vlogs lately and something been niggling me , which just realised where’s your hat these days
I left it on the plane to Pakistan mate, I will get another one but the weather isn’t too bad at the minute.
Yeah,of dogs dangleys Richie.
But you already know of dual pricing here in Thailand.
Yes it’s all over Asia Simon.
For dutezore. I didn't call you a racist. I asked if you encourage racism, if you don't know the difference that's your failing. I didn't even call you stupid when you used a barrage of words to make a statement that was completely wrong. Seems I've hit a nerve somewhere, I wonder what that could be. Suggestions on a postcard.
Haha I understood mate.
@@ParkinsonRaw Seems these chancers that make out they're clever don't like it when you show them they're not. Don't let them bother you they just give me a good laugh.
Richy i sent a fiver using your new direct ppal a week or so back (sargent). Tell viewers to use friends n fam as you get all cash then and no fee to ppal.
@@EllisWR to right Ellis, people are saying it’s because we’re budget travellers but they couldn’t be more wrong. It’s basically that we don’t like getting poked in the eye mate👍🏻
I skipped a bunch of places in nepal because of the money to enter , mandatory guide . No regrets 😂
@@ParkinsonRaw The greatest places we've ever visited have all been free and we've been looked after by the local people not shafted every 5 seconds! Ignore em mate full of dafties on here.
Too cheap to pay a few quid to see and help restore a unesco sight, AND be indignant about it! Stay home, whingers. 😂
If tourists don't contribute.. it is just a nuisance . The place will exist even without tourist.
I reckon you’re going to India?
That’s exactly what I think mate and to be honest I wasn’t that interested in seeing the temples there all the same.
Not yet mate, I need to get myself healthy and fit before I jump in the lions den lol
For yooo47. Would you rather I called it what it was, outright racism.
I hate using that word but yes it is mate, plying nations against one another by ways of extortion your right.
@@ParkinsonRaw Not me either pal but this bawbag was getting on my wick. They deleted it from replies so had to put it here. Not the first time, seems they have a problem with the truth.
Proper Thai food, like; well the cook that will make it is Thai, anyhow!
I’ve been really looking forward to getting some good Thai food again mate.
Masaman,(Muslim) veggy curry is good..
I love a masaman curry Simon.
