    These guys, hunting primitively, are easily some of the most skilled and effective hunters in the world today. The sheer level of devotion to an in-context primitive hunt is so cool, and i’m sure that any fruits of these hunts are so much sweeter than with many modern ways. I feel as though this is also an extremely humane way to hunt- it just limits the amount of kills you can take, and reeeaaaally makes you consider every strike. Bravo.

    This is refreshing to watch in a world where survivalists seem to think that longevity after SHTF is guaranteed by their shopping skills. I have never seen such beautiful contemporary flint knapping as demonstrated here.

    • @MrArthoz
      @MrArthoz 5 лет назад +1

      Yeah...and all believe they could lone wolf it and become the ultimate survival. My late grandfather actually lived in a time when SHTF actually happened...during Japanese occupation of Malaya and communist insurgency post ww2.
      From his experience I've learned that when we need to survive...only a community will succeed...lone survivalist is a walking corpse. You could read recent history like in Chechnya when community had to survive...preppers fan might never survive the real thing.

    Great video, one minor quibble. Just finished three books on pre-Columbian people of North America or the Southeast, and all three mention hunting bear and passenger pigeon at night by torchlight.

    • @huntprimitive9918
      @huntprimitive9918  5 лет назад +13

      That's interesting to hear. hard to imagine a bear coming anywhere near any source of fire, but I also know modern man has changed wild animals' fears and behaviors in the last several hundred years too.

    • @oaksparoakspar3144
      @oaksparoakspar3144 5 лет назад +4

      Passenger pigeons, like a modern chicken, slept hard in massive flocks - so you could go on in with minimal light and club them in large numbers far easier than trying to kill them on the wing. Not that killing them on the wing was hard, but with them, it was about quantity during the short time they were migrating through your area.
      As for bears, you can't sneak a bear. Their sense of smell is too good. Today, we bait them (using that sense of smell against them) to draw them in. Hunting them with torches likely means driving them. Bears are largely diurnal and don't have great night vision. Torches would restrict their vision (light blinding them) and serve as a substantial motivation for driving one into your line of hunters (also, your torches help to avoid friendly fire).

    Another great hunt. Little tip for ya when handling gators or any other animal with sharp teeth, bring some large zip ties, and once heis heads on the lip of the boat zip his mouth shut. Also works well for catch and release animals if you wrap the ziptie in some foam or cloth tape. Its easier to use than tape as you can just snip it off,especialy on a live release.. The trick to using them especialy on your own is to have the loop made and have your arm through it ao that when you grab the snout you can just slide it right down into him.

    I don't know if it's still running but there was a show called "naked and afraid" where they dropped contestants off to survive in the wild, but they'd panic or burst into tears if they lost their ferro rod or machete... They never really had anyone on who could actually go from scratch though. Crack a stone, make a their own axe/knives etc and really not be reliant on some sort of modern tool.

      thank you. I've been pretty serious using them now for going on 3 years. I tinkered with them for a couple years prior until I felt like I really wanted to head that direction.

    We're reading from the same book! That was by far one of the best and coolest primitive hunt videos I've seen in a long time. Now for the questions; How long did it take you to make the yucca cordage? I've made a small amount and can appreciate how long it takes. Were the tags super expensive? Was that your little one at the end?
    Many thanks for the flint, it knapps beautifully!

      We grew up in SE Wisconsin on the edge of wetlands and our dad had my brother and I making boomerangs, bolos, atlatl, and anything else we could make to hunt and it wasn’t looked upon as popular back then but we loved it

    I'm late to the party but you can find some deinosuchus sized gators in Lake Talquin. :)

    Okay, so what was the black nightshade berry for, at the beginning of your tooling?

    Those gators would be the size you want to take as a hunter. A 12' male might be a bit to manage!
