Keep in mind that I spend hours and hours putting videos together with a passion to educate people on many different subjects about hunting. Give me the benefit of the doubt and watch passed your trigger point.

    I have personally hunted and filmed for Ryan. In fact all but one of the hunts in this video I filmed. And to say that he is unethical is preposterous. I have watched him time and time again pass sows with piglets too young to fend for themselves. And pass on shots that he felt just wasn't fair to the animal. He is more ethical than most hunters I know.

      One only hopes that hunters know to respect the animal.
      I personally made the decision to hunt based on my dislike of industrialized farming, and the cruelty animals in that setting are subjected to.
      Based on that also, I decided to hunt with bow and arrow because it didn't feel right to shoot an animal from 50 yards, where I can't assess the animal.

You could be saving a dozen todlers from an orphanage fire and someone would say you're mean because you yanked one out by the arm. Probably saying something ignorant and claiming its child abuse because it's bad for their shoulder joint. Don't take it to heart, keep up what you're doing.

Animals don't know they are supposed to fall down dead at the shot, They just go on doing what they can, until they can't.

    What I find fascinating is that you're able to hunt using not only primitive tools, but without the benefit of fully camouflage gear. It's almost as if there is an industry dedicated to selling us things we don't actually need. 😅

      thanks very much. Yeah that has always kinda been my thing. I found the hunting show sponsors to be so overbearing on what you "have to have" to be successful. I make suggestions on things that I think make a difference... but shorts and a t shirt with a fist full of sticks works too

    • @jamescooper2618
      @jamescooper2618 Год назад

      Camo gear is only one small part of camouflage. Animals will smell you, hear you, and see movement long before they will see your camo pattern. Many people kill deer in bluejeans and plaid shirt.

    • @aaron-gz

      Camouflage is a natural thing that can benefit a hunter (predator) what isn't natural is buying expensive Gucci clothes and structures with green coloring splotches. As long as you don't have bright colors that bring too much attention an animal won't be that alert. Snipers apparently make their own guile suit by sewing leaves and stuff so not a problem for a hunter to make their own DIY camo instead of buying

      A sling works fine, although the skill curve is ridiculously high; but hey, if it's good enough to kill Goliath, it's good enough to kill a boar. And on top of that, no matter how regulated a country gets, they can never ban leather and stone.

    I learned the speed that a whitetail can react to a bow string years ago on my first bow kill. I was using a 40# recurve and had a perfect release and shot placement on a broadside doe at 20 yds. She turned 90 degrees stright away and instead of a double lung hit got a texas heart shot instead. When right up her behind burried to the fletching and she ran about 30 yds. With a Bear broadhead slicing up her liver and lungs as she ran. I was confused as heck when I got up there and saw that arrow sticking out the back end of her. Had to piece together what happened without the benfit of a video. (That was nearly 30 years ago). I went and bought a set of cat whiskers to dampen the noise at my uncles suggestion and they did help alot. Although I set my limit at 20 yds that day for any future shots.

I've always enjoyed close stalking rabbits with an airgun where 40yds is a reasonably long shot. Recently on a deer hunt I stalked a Chinese water deer to within 40yds with only a hedge behind. The timing of movement (unslinging the rifle etc) was critical making it one of the most satisfying hunts for a while

      I figure the sound, and what must be an obvious sight of the jolt, when a compound bow is fully drawn, must be more noticeable to an animal than drawing a selfbow.
      Then again, it's much easier to keep a compound bow drawn much longer than a selfbow.

    • @andrewbasnaw
      @andrewbasnaw 2 года назад +1

      @@josephnebeker7976 I think that's exactly it. I am more comfortable with my longbow than my compound. The incident where I missed this deer happened as a result of failed aiming. I shoot instinctive on my stick bows, and the concept of aiming with a sight led me with a false sense of security, so when I shot at the deer at closer to 10 yards, I accidentally used the wrong pin, and shot straight over her back. If I had been shooting a compound as long as I have been a longbow, I'm sure that would have been meat in the freezer.

    Some very good advice on hunting, in general. Great video. Even rifle hunting, I have passed on some very nice mule deer bucks because I wasn't 100% sure of the shot. In retrospect, maybe I could have made the shot, but I feel I made the right choice. The memory of seeing those bucks will stay with me always.

    I’ve never been a hunter. I’ve had myself some time shooting at targets. Never thought much of it. But after being introduced into bow building. I’ve been heavily attracted to bow hunting. How much I’d love to have my first real hunt with a bow I created myself.

    When young, I certainly did my share of killing things and even enjoyed my skill in doing so. I think it wasn't until I went into the military at 15, that I arrived at the emotional impact of what killing was all about. Sadly, I arrived at a state of mind where killing actually became abhorrent to me. A state where the cost of a "life" was simply the cost of a bullet, which in the military, bullets were free. Life became very cheap!
    Pro-life, for me, is a personal choice and while I occasionally eat meat, (hunting in a supermarket is much easier than going after something with a gun or a bow), I in no way pass this judgment call onto you or others. I understand a person's commitment in becoming a vegetarian, that something must die in order for a person to live, that doesn't mean that I don''t understand the necessity of it.
    I am quite impressed with your abilities, skill, and moral decisions in your approach to hunting. I don't know what boy doesn't fantasize about hunting with a bow in growing up but most I feel only approach hunting with a rifle as a weapon and most only hunt with the intention of "bagging" the biggest and bestest animal rather than as nature intends as per your approach.
    Being an avid rider of both horses and mules I was really impressed with the video of hunting from horseback from your channel. Both my horse and mule were used to hunt things with their exceptional noses, my mule more so.
    I respect both you and your commitment to what you do and your approach in doing it. Hopefully, a few nay-sayers won't get you down with their personal judgment of you. Personally? I wish I could learn from you!

      Your feelings Sir or Miss is exactly the reason why I have great difficulty hunting with other people anymore these days. I too see the cost and cheating of the soul that simply going out and killing critters. I enjoy hunting today with a bow far more than firearm. I do a lot of small game hunting with my dog and gun but to be truthful, I do it for the dog as she is a Aussie healer and very high strung. When I got her my wife was in grad school hundreds of miles away and the Dog and I spent loads of hours afield to the point-where I cannot not take the dog afield or she becomes very depressed. I had to stop hunting with family (and even the land we “own”) because of the attitudes and mentalities of most of the senior and junior family members. Even friendships are sometimes challenging as many hunters here in NY are just not good and simply want to kill stuff, drink and throw away.

    I blowgun hunt extremely wary and flitty bird species, and his point around 24:00-26:00 is especially true with them. One could say with certain species at a certain range, in his case on this pig, “aim lower” based on that reaction being a more predictable one. It isn’t that easy.

    In my country the number of people who hike around in the woods went drastically down after the internet came. This means that most tracks and trails I see in the forest are traveled by animals and not humans. I have found a couple of small hills that overlook a game trail that must have been used in the past as you can get really close but still have great cover. Gonna see if I can find any stone tools there. I also found a place with 3 "shooting positions" dug out next to the trail with covered acsess from a creek bed. All these trails have lots of moose and deer tracks as the terrain funnels the animals onto the trail.
    There have lived people in this district for almost 10 000 years.

    Love hearing people talk to primitive hunters or even hunters in general about how unethical, how cruel it is to hunt. Funny thing is these are the same people that are eating meat from wal mart, and have no idea how that animal lived, where the animal came from, or how that animal had been treated on some company farm. Where as we are out stalking and hunting animals that lived life exactly as it was intended to live, got the chance to live a free life. There is always someone that has something to say
