@erosion271 still better than todays sorry show. If EE was axed tomorrow, most of the classic characters/clips would come from this period and the 90s. Todays lot would barely get a look in.
@erosion271 I'd hardly call Mel a legend but her stunk due to current EEs writing and shows inability to move forward. Call it nostalgia all you want but 80s/90s EE was easily able to dominate its rival soaps but now losses to ED on a nightly basis, there's no denying the show was much bigger it got a record breaking 30 million viewers while Keanu, Callum lead EE has been beat by repeats of The Chase (plain embarrassing a repeat of a non prime time quiz show), gets beaten by ED on a nightly basis (this at one time would have been unimaginable) or when non fans could name these characters (you couldn't do that today with thus lot).
@erosion271 you can't claim"other factors" for EE trailing behind rival soaps it used to dominate, that's a plain decline in quality (I'd happily call these out for declining quality too yet a declining ED beats EE in the ratings every night). We've even heard current/past stars calling out the shows declining quality (Ross Kemp, Leslie Grantham, John Altmann) as well as past writers (Julia Smiths "I wrote that line for Den & Angie not a turd in a syrup" springs to mind").
Look at Pete the trend setter. Flashing Burberry in 88! 😂
Pete took no crap off anyone
Back when EE was a great character based drama rather than a fantasy show with people coming back from the dead and absurd dialogue.
Back when people could actually act , and character's had presence and charisma
Low ratings? Say a dead character faked their death or bring back a popular old character.

Back when Eastenders was actually worth watching.
It was still good untill the late 90s
It was probably way better when the Mitchell’s wasn’t in it in the mid 1980s
Now it's about who killed who.

I think about everyone hits Ian 🤣
Why did Ian Beale always call his dad ‘Pops’?
Pete missed the slap by miles lol 😅 How did fish face duck that one
Was this the humble beginning of the Beale empire?
That probably started way before ww1 with the birth of Lou Beale's Dad!!!
Ian deserved it
Acting at its finest
I feel sorry for Ian he is like a punch bag.
