I wish they hadn't killed Pete Beale off, he could have made the programme so good, imagine him now with Kathy, and Pat when she was alive, plus his grandkids!!

Me too - I loved Pete too. I've always missed him. If he was around Ian would be a better/tougher person.

This was when East Enders was good now its just a fucking pantomime , believable acting well written and the actors were not cast for their looks but for their ability.

Agreed. It's nice to see soaps they way they were back then, proper, well-written character-based storylines and how characters cope with their predicaments which IMO is far more enjoyable than endless explosions and murders!

Pete Beale was a proper blokes bloke. What makes the characters so good in the early Eastenders was that if you come from an inner city in the UK or Ireland you know people exactly like the characters portrayed in the show.

Kenny was the mush in Only Fools when Del and Rodders were in Benidorm, "I hope he doesn't kick sand in my face?"

Was also evil Bill Sykes in the BBC's mid-80s dramatisation of Oliver Twist (Dot Cotton played Oliver's adopted mum who sent him to the workhouse)
