This song actually has a very emotional background to it. Larry Clark had a mentor who was really close to him and one day that mentor found out he had brain cancer and he had very little days to live so Larry decided to write him this song and when Larrys mentor was on his death bed Larry played this song for him as his family was in tears and this song was the last thing he heard before he passed away. I know this because the band director for the middle school honors band of Miami Florida is really good friends with him and Larry Clarke actually came to the concert and was in tears when he came up on stage after the song and it was an amazing experience and a very heart warming emotional story that moved the crowd to tears
Man I never realized the emotions put into this song, I'm playing this now and I really hope my band can do this song the justice it deserves. Btw this song is great Larry Clark.
This was the song that got me to genuinely enjoy playing the french horn and has always been a sort of calming memory to me over the years. Anyone who needs a performance piece for their band would do well learning this.
For a 9th grade concert band this composition is very challenging, we're not used to a slower paced song, and we cannot replicate the feeling and emotions through this composition, and we cannot do it enough justice. I hope we can though.
I played this on bassoon in my all county band, and after hearing the piece, I fell in love. This is my favorite piece I have played so far, it gives me chills every time I play it.
Mr. Clark, we had the privilege to play this piece yesterday at the Arkansas Mid- South Honor Band. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing this piece. It truly does honor Dr. Feldstein. Thank You!
We played for all county band last year and we had Larry there to be our conductor and it was absolutely amazing. Loved it! Larry is a very talented individual.
This song was so beautiful in nith grade playing for a judicator for festival playing clarinet 1 was so fun and challenging because this piece gives you something to look for a well written and well done Larry Clark 👏👏👏
I played this at La Honda camp and it sounds so much alike because just the senior band had around 150-200 people. And the French horn part is probably my favorite
Larry Clark I pray that your close friend may find peace... I wish I had the sheet but in SPC we had the chance to play the pice bud they didn’t let us and then once we were done with camp they took the music from us I only got to play it once but not completely on my bari sax and I’m very sad knowing now that it was this piece and that it was meant for someone special im so very sorry #i’msorry
Im in Gr.8 a french horn player and were gonna do this at the festival😥Im so nervous and its our first time to have the melody since gr.7 so were just really touch ryt now😁
It’s a little challenging because it’s so slow and theirs a lot of dynamics, but it’s so emotional and heart warming, and it’s just such a great piece of music.

Truly shows that music isn’t always made to sound good or for fame.
I played this in the All County Honor Band. I played Trumpet. I was first chair at my school and in Honor band. I still cry listening to it.
