Great lesson from an underrated band. If you ever teach us a Slowdive song, I will love you forever.
Exactly, a song I've listened to since it came out, and very inspirational to see it broken down.
Souvlaki Space Station. Not many lessons on it.
@@thomasmerzbacher7997 Shoegazer did a lesson on that one recently. Also the Pedal Partners channel has loads of info on the pedal settings for that song. Cheers
one of the few songs that gives me goosebumps every time i hear it.
You deserve a like before I have even watched the video just for choosing this amazing song
Way, way back in the day I was going to go see Lush and one of my friends told me they just started learning their instruments and that session guys had recorded their albums, and I should expect a bad show. Instead they killed. It was one of those shows I'll never forget. Last year I thought I was dying, and while laying in the hospital bed I thought back to that night several times. That's how great they sounded.
I know squat about playing guitar, but I still enjoyed this video because it helped me understand what I've been hearing for the past 30+ years.
Another belter of a song choice Adrian, impeccably presented as always. Takes me back to when I bought their first album, Scar. Absolutely loved it. I was lucky enough to see them live when they supported The Cure at Crystal Palace bowl back in 1990. Happy days.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. Thanks for taking time to break it down.
So good. It shows how classic a tune is, when disassembled, yet still sonically stands. Thank you.
Check out For Love.Miki's songwriting on that one is Dylanesque. She has such an incisive way of writing about men and women..
there is everything to like about your lessons. even when it's something i have no interest in it is still a pleasure to watch you play it and there's something to learn in that or the discussion. terrific work and very much appreciated.
Greetings from Russia!
I learned two of John Fahey's compositions thanks to your videos and would be very grateful if you could continue teaching us his compositions. In this case, I would be glad to see the composition Grand Finale. I have never and nowhere seen any lesson or notes on this melody, so you are the last hope! Thanks in advance!
Would like a how to on Cocteau Twins ,"Carolyn's fingers".
Lush took so much of their influence from Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde of The Cocteau Twins. Just beautiful swirling guitars that you could just get lost in and drift away.
Awesome - MORE LUSH !! Please!!
Can you PLEASE do a sonic youth lesson ?? You’re the only one I trust on here to do it the right way 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for doing this song. Pretty much no one is teaching indie songs like this. I would also love to learn Deluxe as well. Cheers!
Great lesson! Back when I was a young dude, I always played the chorus as E, D, A (major), C, and it never quite sounded right. I hadn't thought to revisit the song until now. Thanks for doing it! 😆
Emma generally played a Thinline Tele, and occasionally a Strat. Miki played a 12-string Rick in the studio, and either a Gibson 3-something or Epiphone 12-string on stage. Later on she added a '67 Gibson Firebird, because she liked the logo. :-)
I've seen Miki with a Ricki!
Miki exclusively played the Firebird during the Lovelife era, which had a less jangly more Britpop sound
From the same EP is the lovely ‘Sunbathing’ which is very easy to play (G, F, C, Em, Am, D, F maj 7th, Gm, D sus4 I think) - but the effects treatments are really quite trippy and I’ve never been able to replicate the ‘floatiness’ of it just right. They were underrated! Thanks for doing ‘Sweetness And Light’, I think you’ve pretty much got it note perfect.
Thank you!! I’ve been waiting for a good youtube tutorial for this song since i first heard it back in 2013 :)
Yo I didn't know that the chord progression of this song is pretty challenging, but it's beautiful. Thanks for the guitar lesson!
So grateful for this additional lesson! You are hitting all my favorites lately!
I’m genuinely begging, praying even, that you do de-luxe by lush. I cannot find the right tabs anywhere
saaaaaame omg
Yesssss
Completely agree! I adored this band.
Tabs are just someone's interpretation. Try your ear.
I love Lush and live this song! I saw them at Lee’s Palace in Toronto and I don’t remember the year (91 I think). Such a great show! I almost cried when I saw this video come up and I’m usually not that sentimental.
If anybody cares, Emma usually used a Tele Thinline and sometimes a Strat and Miki would use various 12 strings including Gibson ES335 (I think), Epiphone Riviera or a Rickenbacker. She would sometimes use a Ricky 6 string.
Wonderful lesson. As a relatively new player I find your pace and clarity of explanation very helpful. Playing shoegaze is almost as enjoyable as listening to it. Thanks for posting this video.
Great Teacher‼️✨✨✨✨✨Thank you‼️
Excellent job !
As always, straight up excellent! Thank you!!
Now that you've done a Lush track, it would be great to see a video on one from the Cocteau Twins/Robin Guthrie.
Really good job - thanks
This really some top quality content in every way !!
Thanks you for sharing all this is :) :)
It's very tasty ^^
What an awesome song! Completely new to me, too. Not to mention your recordings keep getting better and better.
What a good lesson that was. So much to learn within reach.
You are very talented, Sir. With impeccable taste.
I invite others to try your lesson in drop D.
YES one of my favorites
please please please do more lush songs!!!!
The 12 string also looks cool 😎
Great post Adrian.
I never knew that Lush where a shoegaze band, I don't think that I really thought about their category. If pressed I might have said that they were an indie pop band that came in on the britpop wave. Just goes to show that every day is a school day. 😎🎙🎸✅
The britpop wave was really only just getting started when they split up. Apart from a couple of singles off the last album, you can't really call anything that they did britpop. If they rode in on any wave, it was the late 80s fascination with the Cocteau Twins.
@@whssy every day is a school day 😂
Thanks. Great stuff. May the shoe gazing continue!!
Thanks for uploading this Adrian, one of my favourite songs ever, shall be looking at that patreon link for sure! 👍🏻
Oh wow man, what a treat. Thanks.
Edit. Funny, I was just trying this not long ago.
Beautiful song! Thanks for the discovery and the lesson!
Thanks Andy - can't tell you how happy I am to be able to learn this song!
Anytime you want to break down LUSH songs will be VERY much appreciated :D
Phenomenal guitar
playing and lesson. Thank you for this my friend.
Quality! I still have the 4AD cd ep! They always reminded me of Throwing Muses on more drugs! Actually Kristen Hirsch is a brilliant and under rated guitarist, one of the best ive ever seen live. A Throwing Muses lesson would be one from left field!
Miki has stated that he loved Throwing Muses in many interviews and also Emma has said that She was a fan of 4AD artists so it could be an influence.
Can we get a tutorial for Twisterella by Ride? Got a really nice melody in it and think it would make a great video. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Emma has that knack of playing exactly the right part.
Lovely stuff Adrian! Love that Mosrite-inspired Eastwood!
Brilliantly done!
Fantastic! Still got my early Lush EPs on vinyl. Weird how I never thought to learn this before now. Thanks for the fab breakdown.
Very very nice ! Me wants more ! The 2 shoegaze chordtunings used in this song are especially interesting for me. I get dazzled by all that fragmented shoegaze chords en half theory in videos, 6thn 7thn 11th, this, that, tuning different... Here it is simple and linked to a known song. I would love to see some more of shoegaze hits videos with simple (simplified) shoegazechords in normal tuning. Gotta check your channel also further. Thanks !
Thanks much for doing a Lush song and you're right sometimes transcribing shoegaze accurately is tougher than transcribing guitar gods.
woohoo more shoegaze! thanks Adrian
Sounds lush! Nicely done. This is going to be great to play on my new J Mascis Jazzmaster when it arrives :). More 'gaze songs please - though probably should request some Dinosaur Jr now too! cheers
Awesome I love Lush and all the shoegaze and early 80’s like Joy Division and Ride you’ve done, Tnank you. I’d love to see a Lush Deluxe guitar lesson! Or how about some Cocteau Twins Blind dumb deaf or The Spangle Maker?
Your sound is amazing! Great mix!
More lush lesson please
Brilliant - thank you for this 🙏
Thank you for this lesson I’m looking forward to more of these sub genre and some Cocteau twins too
Loving that Eastwood 12-string!
not going to try Miki's vocals then Adrian? fantastic stuff, what a great choice
One day or another, you'll have to do a MBV video. You know it is your fate ;-)
Thanks so much for all your work !!!
Best lesson, thank u sir
thank you
Loved it!!
Yes awesome!!!!! Thx please do anything by my bloody valentine!!!!!!!!!
Nothing Natural by Lush would also be a great lesson. Are you still planning on doing Song from under the floorboards by Magazine? you mentioned you were doing it a while a go
Fantastic work Adrian! While you have the 12 string, how about Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley?
You should do a lesson on Nothing Natural. It’s another great song by Lush
Good one!
Do here and now by ride
a brilliant analysis !! would be fascinated if you had a go at Superblast. Even Emma couldnt figure out the end part to that when it cam e to the reunion 😅
Great lesson and a cool new 12 string. I'd love to hear you play some stuff by The Byrds on it. These lessons are so good I watch them even when I don't plan to learn the song.
Thank you. More Lush please. Could you do some Gene Loves Jezebel?
Sorry for three consecutive comments and and at the risk of sounding didactic something in your description struck me as curious. If Emma is playing a D power chord with the E and B strings open then she is in effect playing an E7sus which would be E A B D with the 7th as her bass note. But, if it is still a 'D' chord which one would it be? It's missing the 3rd since it's a power chord but has a sixth (B) and a ninth (E). Maybe D 6/9?
That was sweet!
Nice one Adrian. Lush stuff isn't that hard to play but the harmonies are exquisite.
With regard to gear, Miki was pretty much using the Boss pedal range exclusively. Not sure what Emma was using.
I think she used BOSS and one of them Roland Guitar Processor things.
Can you please show us how to do Eno's Third Uncle???
please play starlust too, such a good song
Fantastic! I learned it with your video. thank you. what do you use for the background music drums etc ?
Great stuff there. I could you do dual by Swervedriver or Winnoa by Drop Nineteens please
That Eastwood looks killer! Nice video Adrian! Request song: Warpaint - Stars
Awesome. Cocteau Twins next?
Aha Professore Adrian was a good boy last year and got extra special treatment from Santa. Nice new axe, now you have everyone jonesing for an electric 12 string. Any reason you preferred the Sidejack 12 string over the Eastwood semi-hollow 12 string?
Please do this is the one by stone roses
Slide Away by The Verve would be a great video
I’ve just realised that ‘Nowhere Man’ by the Beatles goes F# minor. - Am - E Major too...
Hey how about a tutorial on Hotel 65 by Lucid Express it's a very underrated song so... Can't find anywhere.
Why did I sell off my pedal board? Thanks mate! Love Lush!
I am trying to write music like this, but I keep running into the same problem. How do I thicken the sound with layered guitar parts while not having the guitars clash? The notes always seem to clash for me, and I don’t know why. This songs multiple guitar parts just seem to fit together, and feel smooth.
Would you consider doing more Lush lessons? Maybe 'for love' or 'desire lines'?
plsssss do de-luxe plsss
(not shoegaze exactly) but could you do a tutorial for gamma ray blue by the cleaners from venus. can’t find a decent easy to follow tab or video on it ❤️🎸
oh man that guitar is fuckin sick, next guitar for me is 100% gonna be a sidejack
Can we talk about De-Luxe,? I've never been able to count the meter in that song, still a favorite!
Well what about that bass? Lol. Bass tone was crazy deep and good. Any insights?
You don't seem the type to plug but between your voice, guitar ability and alternative and traditional interests, very curious what kind of music you make if any.
If you want to check out another song with similar flavor that loves it some pedal tones, check out Glass and the Ghost Children by Smashing Pumpkins. Two guitars playing playing what sound like different chords but sort of supporting a voltron of chords!
Is the 12string a new one,I wondered why you only made one jazz lick type vid,you keep well sir.
Omg this is so rare thank you! Can you do some Garbage as well?
Can you do these things take time by the smiths
Yesssss
