Loved the video as always!! I totally agree with you, having a hobby or skill you’re building outside of work is so important. Playing tennis and painting are ways that I still get to grow my skills and find fulfilling milestones even if other parts of my life feel stagnant at times.
Always love watching these videos to wind down after a rough day! How do I not stay complacent? I’m an English prof, so I am teaching the same essays/ content every semester. I love to change up my teaching methods or the way I teach/ approach a subject. It’s such a joy to hear students go from “I hate writing” to “wow writing can actually be fun”
You are amazing! Thank you for what you do and for keeping it exciting. I still remember my teachers who helped me improve my writing skills and I thank them every single day!
It sounds like your unit gained a great nurse when they hired you. So organised, caring and thoughtful. You're the ultimate role model!!! Answer to your question: celebrating the small achievements and really sitting in those moments, not chasing the next straight away.
Hey Kiara! Fellow Peds Hem/Onc nurse here😁 This video was such a refreshing reminder for me about the awesome highs that we experience in our field, especially since my unit has had a lot of emotional lows recently. Thank you so much for being a light for our profession and a great example for students who want to join our AWESOME specialty (the best specialty😁)
Aww this made me tear up! Proud of all the wonderful work we do, it has also been a particularly hard summer on my floor so I hope you are taking care of yourself on the days off!
I just found your page I’m also a Portland native going into nursing school for the pediatric oncology nursing. I wanna work Los Angeles and travel nursing in Canada
HI Kiara! I am a physics student and I am specializing in medical physics. I worked for my final project working in proton therapy, where we mostly work with pediatric patients. So I can understand your feelings and excitement to be in this part of medical field. We as physicists do not directly interact with patients, even though we directly work on patients when designing their radiation treatment. So it is really nice to see your side of our field and see what you nurses and doctors do all day long! I really enjoy your videos and you are such an inspiration!
One way I try not to become complacent in my nursing job is to try and improve my workflow or knowledge by doing (at least) one thing better every day!
AHHHHH you answered my question!! ❤️ I love your answer, giving the life saving chemo would be such a powerful skill to practice. You sound like the kind of nurse I love working with! It sounds like you are appreciated on your unit and it is well deserved ❤️ QOTD: rereading past journal entries! Reflecting on those anxieties and where you were at when the next mountain seemed impossible to climb, but you did it anyways. It shows you how much life is always moving, despite not always feeling that way on the day to day.
Thanks for asking such a great question! I gave some chemo today and it felt awesome :) I LOVE your QOTD answer. I feel like my videos do that for me, but journaling is so powerful too and it's so personal and special to celebrate your wins ❤️
I have never worked at a job with women that didn't have at least one mean girl. Your videos always bring me joy. You so remind me of my best friend of 44 years. She also skies. You are such an inspiration to young and old. You make me feel better about the future. Hugs
That’s so so cool that your hospital has a break nurse! On the unit I work on (adult med surg/tele), our charge nurse breaks us for our 30 min lunch break, but since they have other responsibilities, they usually don’t help much with the nurse they’re breaking’s patients unless there’s some crisis. Legally we are supposed to get more breaks than just the one 30, but since we don’t have someone to break us, we realistically usually just don’t take any other breaks unless it’s a slow day (which is rare), or they’re interrupted quick breaks. I really love my coworkers where I work, but I wish we had more resources like this!
Hi Kiara! I am so happy I found your channel! I just had knee surgery and I have never hit subscribe so fast, I've been doing nothing but watching your videos while I recover. I am also highly active and outdoorsy (I am also a skier!) and a prospective ABSN student starting prereqs in the fall. I absolutely love your content and it's been so motivating!
I just try to live by the rule if it scares me I have to do it. Last week I took my first solo trip, spent a weekend exploring Athens. I also just got into uni so i'll be starting in a month and I'm terrified but so excited. Finished high school during covid and I've been unmotivated to continue studying but 4 years later I've decided to just go for it and major in english like I've always wanted to.
My unit has three "flex nurses" every shift. and their role is to walk around the unit & help us. Honestly saves the day, especially when things go south
Great answers to those questions. Can see why you are a great nurse and I am sure you are motivational to be working with. Have a great 7 days rest and relaxation. My answer to your question - I try to choose one or two tasks that I wish to accomplish every day depending on how my energy levels and body aches are. If I am feeling not good I give myself grace and tell myself that my body is telling me to rest. Can be very frustrating through.
What an incredible mindset you have to be able to balance listening to your body and healthy challenge. Thank you for the sweet comment & support, hope your week is going smoothy & you have been getting some good rest to feel up to what you wish! 💕
I appreciate you modeling mask wearing for your patients' safety! I'd love to see you wearing kn95 respirators or better, especially in this current surge, but the surgical works in a pinch. hope you have a good week off and stay well!
Thanks! Yea it’s required on our floor and sadly they stopped stalking the KN95 ones I like :( I do a thicker one than the typical surgical mask cuz I like it more, but anyone visiting or working on my floor cannot come sick, so that’s helpful in keeping our kids safe too :) N95s on planes for me though….will not be getting sick from traveling and bringing it home!!
I think you would be an amazing MD. If you ever get the bug to go for it, you definitely should. Your bedside manner and just genuine caring person, would be ideal.

Hii!! I had a question about school, when you were in highschool what clubs and classes were you in that helped you be a pediatric oncology nurse? im a sophmore in highschool and Im scared that im behind on the track that I want to be on. Thank you if you answer this!!
I feel like in high school It was nannying and interacting with kids of all ages that really helped me! Like tea, castor oil, etc on top of traditional medicines and treatments? I have just had a lot of healthcare providers seem almost mad if I mention or ask about any of that or tell me its pointless even when I truly have felt better from things like that (of course with any medicine, physical therapy, treatments etc that they advise and prescribe). I've just been curious about that. Also I love your commitment to patients and ALSO being so creative and committed to your craft of doing youtube videos!
