    I bought this camera because I'm a birder, so I use it for identfication purposes. Because it's relatively small, it slides into my over-the-shoulder sling easily, so carrying binoculars as well is no problem. The zoom is crazy long, and I use a monopod in the field to help with stability.

    That zooms in and out quickly. For the price its definitely a great camera for people who want a awesome zoom range, low price tag, and small form factor. I'm sure once I'm an elderly man ill be using one of these with a smile on my face. For birders this is great too, small and light, plus they have monopods that are also hiking sticks! Perfect budget friendly combo.

    Just a note for purchasers looking for their fist zoom camera over 30X : ....some people who see a RUclips video on a superzoom cam and say "too much softness", or "too grainy" don't know what they are talking about.
    Over the past 10 years I've owned maybe 7 zooms from 24X ( "amazing" 10 years ago...lol...) to the FZ70 with 60X. The moon and all subjects probably show the effects of heat waves, humidity, and pollution in the air just as much or more than lens "softness". Only perfect desert or mountaintop conditions can be depended upon to give accurate comparisons, and I don't know why "professional" reviewers don't tell you this when they go outdoors. Get a UV / CPL / Lunar filter(s) and that will help a bunch.
    This said, JRESHOW does a very nice job on his presentations....just wanted to add my comment in.
    PS: Just ordered the FZ80 from B&H Photo, based on having liked the FZ35 and FZ70 before. I also own the pocket friendly jewel Sony HX90 as an everyday carry, and a Sony A6300 for low light. Most of my stuff I buy as Open Box from name camera shops...not eBay unless the seller is a Top Seller with 99% approval.

      James Conner ~ Thank You for the additional info , and if possible could you please tell us how this camera handles compared to your previous Panasonic models , either very light rain or cold weather days near the freezing mark ? Plan on doing field research year round , and require an all purpose camera in 4K with a very good zoom for the picture quality , on a very limited budget of $ 400 Cdn. + Any additional camera equipment that would make this Panasonic FZ80 that much better to use in outdoor woods/forest conditions ? This would be greatly appreciated from such a knowledgeable person as yourself James Conner !!!

    I just got mine two days ago. It has a Jpeg output HDR function which has a couple of options in the REC menu. You must be shooting jpegs for this to work. If you know how to make an HDR in photoshop from raw shots, you can setup for raw output and configure a series of raw images x-number of stops apart by pushing the exposure compensation dial and choosing, I believe, a burst option.

    Bought this camera as a cheaper option after the IS died on my Sony HX400V (apparently not a rare occurence after two or three years). In comparison the IS on this camera is very poor, particularly for video once you get toward 60x/1200, and image quality in general not as good. For the wildlife videos I shoot I feel I should have risked it on another HX400V, beats the FZ80 hands down in this regard.

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 4 года назад +3

      Well, don't feel too bad: at 60x times zoom, you just need a very sturdy tripod. Movements at the camera body are greatly 'amplified' at such focal distances that they can hardly be corrected by the camera or lens-stabilisation anymore.
      For comparison: if I put a 300 mm prime lens from the analog days on my GH5, this means I get to a 600 mm focal lenght. When I set the sensor-crop to 'on', this means I get an extra 2,7 times or so magnification in FHD (at 4K, which I never use, this is limited to something like 0,6 time or so).
      But when I get to that focal length, I need to use my 10 kilo heavy professional videotripod and put the fluid-dampening on max for both tilt and pan, and even then it's hard to keep stable (and trust me: tracking a plane in the sky is incredibly hard: once you find it, you have to keep it in the LCD or viewfinder or you'll lose it: they look so slow from below while at 40000 feet, but once you can almost get them to fill the LCD, they are extremely fast.

    First video review I look up and it's by someone in the QCA. I from Davenport. Btw great review. Atm I do not own any camera besides my Samsung note 10.
    Do you highly recommend this camera for everyday use like going to the zoo. Hiking, taking pics of the mountains in Colorado. How are portraits of people and macros?

    Hi, would you recommend this for indoor videos for youtube and b rolls? Can it do a little depth of field? I plan to get this + use my phone as a monitor using the panasonic app + an external mic.

      It’ll work yea but depending on your budget you might want to look on eBay at the Panasonic GX85, you can get a used one with a lens included for around 350, and you can always buy other lenses in future.

      @@JRESHOW Thanks for the reply. My budget was around 400 CAD but I can wait a month or so and stretch it up to 550 CAD. As of now, found these in the local BestBuy and Mcbain stores. It'd help me out if you could suggest me one of these following models:
      1) Fuji xT100 with 14- 45mm (open box)
      2) sony a5100 + 16-50mm (new)
      3)Olympus OM D E M10 Mark 2 (open box)
      4)Canon Sl2 with 14 - 42mm (open box)
      5) Fz300 (new)
      6) Fz80 (new) (initial choice but thinking twice now because of the wobbly and jittery footage and below average low light capabilities)
      7)Fuji x A3 + 16mm to 50mm (open box)
      8) Lumix GX850 (new)
      9) Lumix G7 with kit lense (used)
      My main priority is video and cinematography. Having 4k is great but I'd much prefer stable fluid 1080p than shaky (constantly hunting for focus) 4k.
      Sorry for the mammoth sized question.
      Thanks.

      Knazmuel Hossain I honestly haven’t used any of those so I wouldn’t be the best to ask. I’ve always gone Panasonic for video reasons and what they offer for the price. Sony has really good af but can lack in other areas. I’ve always heard good things about Olympus and have a few of their lenses and are great too. Fuji and canon have nice colors. I think any one of those you choose will do ya good.

      @@JRESHOW Thank you so much for taking your time and helping me out. I also feel that Panasonic offers a lot more for the price when it comes to video. Let's see if I can get a good deal out of a g7 or g85 on Black Friday.

    Hi, THANK YOU! your review helped me pull the trigger on this camera. I am a photography dunce and am going on a safari to Africa. I was looking for something with great zoom and point/shoot capability. I assume the intelligent auto setting should do this nicely. Hoping I made the right decision. Thanks again

      @JRESHOW  6 лет назад +2

      Rich Murphy for the price you cannot even come close to beating it. The only thing that I don’t like is that the screen is fixed. Besides that, it’s a steal. Intelligent mode works fine just make sure when you first get the camera to change the quality to 4K as it comes 1080p - that way you’ll have the best quality. When you get it have a look at Mars... I was just looking at it last night. Going to post video soon!

      I have the same concern. I'm going on safari in December and am racking my head on what camera to buy as I am not a photo wiz at all

    • @richmurphy8144
      @richmurphy8144 5 лет назад +3

      Bear in mind, I am not a photo wiz either. I literally read the instructions and practiced with the camera only days before we went to Africa, and reread on the plane. Bottom line, it was a great camera for me. Set it to an auto mode and it was pretty close to point and shoot. I had to discard many shots because of my hands shaking (user error) but the ones I kept were fantastic. The zoom is amazing. I'm sure it has lots more functions that I will never use, but it more than exceeded my expectations, and I am very happy with the camera. I would suggest going to a photo store if you have access to one locally and see if you can play with it for a while. Good luck, and have a great trip!
