“Air shimmer” is always going to be a telephoto problem. Time of day and weather conditions can either add to or takeaway the problem to a certain degree. 👍👍👍
Indeed this is the main problem of telephotos, in my city only in the winter months with cold and clean air can it be used, the rest of the year the image looks very degraded due to the effect of heat and humidity on the air
I use an Olympus 1.7 teleconverter on my FZ300 and the results are impressive at short range such as tracking a bird in the bushes at 30 feet out. No F stop loss or noticeable drop in resolution.
With that zoom all the heat haze and air currents are really going to make the quality degrade. This might be better on the Zx330 with its better lens and on 600 max X 1.7 I'd expect the results would be better, even do this is impressive

All these cameras have a problem when shooting at a very long distance, if the atmospheric conditions are good (clean and cold air) the image is very good, unfortunately the appropriate conditions do not always exist, greetings from Spain.
I have the genuine Panasonic lens and adapter. The 1.7x lens is exactly the same as the Olympus branded one that i also have. They also seem to be the same the same as the cheap Bower ones you find on-line. The lens barrel can also be bought from 3rd party vendors and they might be better because they are 2 piece. The cylinder that screws on to the body can be left on the camera for protection, mounting filters or a lens hood. The second section extends the tube to mount the teleconverter. what I'm saying is that you can buy the cheaper adapter and 1.7x teleconverter for $75. That's $100 cheaper than the one with the Panasonic name on it and it seems there is no difference in performance.
what I dont understand is, I have the camera and DMW-LT55 - but missing the middle adapter. Why is it needed? The 1.7x zoom works well without it, I could just screw it.
Indeed you can use the DMW-LT55 directly without an adapter, but it is problematic, because you add weight to the motorized lens, which can damage it, also the adapter protects the lens from the wind, so you will have less shake at maximum zoom if you install the adapter, which is also very cheap.
I have to say I’m a little disappointed. Just got the LT55 for the FX80 and the image quality is slightly worse than cropping at 1200mm maximum. Seems like the lens is a placebo in that all it does it give you increased compositional flexibility
The adapter tube is to avoid interfering with the lens of the FZ82, since when you apply the zoom it protrudes in front of the camera, thus preventing it from colliding with the telephoto lens
Javier Rullan Ruano After commenting I pursued the matter more and it seems that instead of creating unique lenses for these purposes, the FZ82 in this instance, is just adding elements in front of its ‘normal’ lens as various companies have offered over the decades. This isn’t the same as an interchangeable zoom or telephone lens or the zoom lens on most consumer cameras. How the quality compares, I can’t say. It does seem a bit awkward and cumbersome compared to Nikons and Cannons and others that have the long zoom lens.
Hi i have lumix fz 82 and i want to buy dmw-lt55 lens. But i cant find this adapter. In some video’s I’ve seen that ppl use the lens without adapter. So am i have to buy this adapter or can i use it without it. I mean ist it indispensable
The adapter is not necessary in principle and can be attached directly to the FZ82, however the increased weight on the camera lens is not a good thing, with the adapter the weight of the magnifying lens goes directly to the camera, leaving free The mobile lens also suppresses vibrations caused by the wind, by protecting the lens inside.
