I cant agree more with your review. It basically is the best camera for beginners. The zoom for stills is great but it has limitations in terms of image quality as you highlight. I have sold mine and upgraded to the g7 nonetheless I do recommend this camera though
Upgraded may not be entirely accurate. The G7 has how much zoom..?..or should I say " how little". You have decided quality beats quantity i would say, But you are correct that the G7 is a desirable camera.

I own an FZ80 and the superzoom is basically the best thing about it - plus the 4K and all. It's a really handy camera especially because it's generally cheap too so it's the best option for a first camera.
I am celebrating my first year of rock concert photography with the FZ80. Its price was attractive, of course, but I bought it for its low light no-flash stop action capabilities. The f/2.8 maximum aperture and 5-step exposure compensation lets me into the f/1.0 "prime lens" territory that's needed for low-light no-flash stop action without sacrificing very much picture quality. For me, the extra zoom is a "frill" -- I've joked that aside from nature and concert photographers, the FZ80 is suitable only for paparazzi and law enforcement surveillance!

I got myself a used Panasonic Fz300 with 1500 shutter count in excellent condition from Facebook marketplace for CAD $200 So far I’m really happy with the price and results.
I bought mine in 2017, its driven over 250,000 miles around the UK with me, I throw it in my rucksack, its never been in a camera bag, Its taken well over 100k photographs and 1000's of 4k videos. I've used it in the rain 100's of times and lots of times on the beach with all the sand etc. Its rolled off the car seat onto the floor more times than I can remember and it still works like new. Not a single scratch on the lens or the rear LCD screen. Its the Nokia 3310 of the camera world! If ONLY my other cameras were as well built and tough. This cheap camera has made me a lot of money and also saved me a lot due to its longevity. and for what its worth I am still using the same battery that came with it which I still only charge up about once, maybe twice a week. Oh yeah, there is a hack and you can get it to around 3,000mm zoom!!!
Watching this vid helped me feel much better about my purchase lol. (Had already ordered it from Amazon-only camera that had a monthly payment option at the time).
Thanks for the very simple and useful video, I decided to use your link to get one for my daughter for her 7th birthday. She's a huge animal lover and has been using her Kindle Fire to capture pictures and videos. Now that she sees what I produce and what she produces, she's been griping about her Kindle's camera. This looks like the perfect buy for her that will last for years and she can capture animals on our hikes and adventures! I'll probably put the 3-year drop and spill warranty on it, too, since, you know, she's turning 7.
As a hobby photographer that started at the DSLR end of things, I started exploring more in nature photography. I have a 300mm equiv. lens for my DSLR but really wanted more to capture birds at an identifiable level of zoom. 1200mm doesn't even exist for that format and if it did, it would weigh many kilos and cost the price of a new car. The FZ-80/82 provides me with the zoom I want at a very affordable price and even though the IQ isn't quite what I can get with my DSLR, the trade off was an easy decision. The 4K photo modes are very useful too, to get just the right shot. Thanks for this video! It helped me make an informed decision.

@@KimBouchard Horrible. It's not just this camera, it's ANY camera with this sort of zoom range. Even my DSLR really needs a tripod to get sharp photos at 300mm or over. Stabilization is only worth a few stops of light, on any camera/lens, and the further you zoom out, the more magnified any vibration will be as well... quickly overwhelming even the best shake reduction systems. On my FZ80 I have the lens cover tethered to the camera with a short "leash". In even a slight breeze, if that lens cap starts moving around, especially if it contacts the body/lens, it WILL be apparent in the shot/video, at very long zoom lengths. If you are worried about getting the *sharpest* photos, at the longer zoom lengths, buy a *good* tripod and only shoot in good light. Preferably with a remote.

This is a great camera and well worth the cost. Nice crisp pictures with great color resolution. Zoom works great too. Camera has plenty of controls for options. Once I got set I just let auto do the job and get great pix. I was going to leave a 5 ⭐️ review on Amazon but if you ever leave a negative review they block you forever. (👎)

I bought mine for product photography and close ups of hummingbirds. I love it for my first camera. Perfect for old farts like me who hate learning new things!
I bought one used for 130 euro and for that price it' a steal (please don't take this literally). I use it mainly as a back-up camera for my Fuji X-T2. In my opinion the stabilisation is quite good. I was abe to take quite sharp pictures with a shutter time of one second. It's also good for almost any type and style of photography. Shooting birds in flight may be a problem as the decent ISO goes up to 400 max and the shutter time become quite long with a maximal aperture of f/5.9.
The real selling point for me (other than focus stacking and price) is that this camera has a 20mm wide angle. This may be the widest angle lens on any major brand Point&Shoot or Bridge camera. That is 20 to 25% more than most fixed lens cameras offer.

Using the strap with my arm through it and around my neck I can stretch the strap out and it holds the camera steady for long zoom filming seems to get just the right distance from my eyes.(using screen not viewfinder)

Hi, nice video. I recently bought this Panasonic fz300 camera. But I found on the lens, 3-4 mm from the edge of the lens, a scratch, about 1 mm, the thickness of a needle tip! Can it affect my photos or movies, condensation ..., are there other things like that? Thanks.
The picture quality is definitely not so good as my fz 1000. But it's under half the price. Is more compact and lighter. Takes great photos in good light and has a good grip when handling it. I actually use it as my everyday camera for landscapes and wild life. Generally I use the auto focus +mode which still gives me some setting which I can I put.
Thanks for comparing the FZ80 with the FZ300 at the end there. I just purchased the FZ300 only few days now and think it's wonderful minus the 60X lens I have on my FZ70. I find now that I probably should have gone with the FZ80 as it has the larger lens range I love (my FZ70 has a faulty lens now), but have been enamored with the FZ300 speed and better lens. I'm not sure what to do but I need to decide soon if I'm returning the FZ300 for the FZ80. Seems the FZ300 more clear and better shots. Half the photos down with the FZ80 looks distorted and or blurry. May ditch it and replace it with the FZ1000

Because it was shot in 4:3 not 16:9. Only way to get a 18MP picture is by shooting in 4:3 aspect ratio. 16:9 aspect ratio will result in a less than 18MP photo.
I'm sad I have a little budget and this was perfect but I'm going to vlog and that is a lot harder without a articulating screen. But an amazing video.

I like the camera but pictures and videos are coming out with the wrong coloring. It seems that everything is a little blue. Not bad but I need to fix it and I'm not sure where to go to do it.
I have the FZ80, and it is all that i waited. the problem is that panasonic doesnt make or sell the accesories anymore. i want an AC adaptor for long timelapses, or the zoom expander, but isnt on stock, of if it is. the prices are stupidly high

But the trade off is that 20-1200 is not as powerful as say 25-1500....on same '60X Zoom"..... a LOT less top end.

Is this good for me a wedding videographer? can you change ISO? I also have AE or Premier so color correcting not hard for me.
I would not recommend this for a wedding videographer. I recommend the panasonic G7 if you’re on a tight budget.
For how long can this camera do a 4k video recording? What's the maximum duration?
If you use the hack you can get it to record indefinitely at 4K. Limited only by SDCard size. In factory mode, 29minutes.

Well it all really depends on what you value most. If it’s zoom range, get the fz80. If it’s image quality, keep the fz300

Hmm, why are there white bars on the still images(2:40)? Was in not captured at 3840 x 2160 resolution? That aside, great video and very informative!
Because it was shot in 4:3 not 16:9. Only way to get a 18MP picture is by shooting in 4:3 aspect ratio. 16:9 aspect ratio will result in a less than 18MP photo.
