I just want to say that 7 years after these were posted i am watching and learning alot. I must say your personality makes these videos a delight. I find myself laughing quite often at some of your comments hahaha.
What a lovey thing to say, Burnsnskii, thanks. ;-) I've always believed that humour makes learning a lot easier and I incorporate it into my classes as much as I can. If you like the surreal aspect of it, try the Freehand Spacefilling Patterns playlist and particularly the last one of the Calligraphy playlist (47, I think) where I'd certainly got the 'end of term' feeling.
I’m binge-watching this series of videos, and this is my favorite design so far. I’ve never been able to draw much of anything, but I’m suddenly drawing Celtic designs. Having the grid and circles makes drawing much less intimidating. Thank you so much!
This one popped up as a recommendation and I'm so pleased it did. Definitely givong this a go and I'm looking forward to watching more of your video's. Thank u for sharing.👍
David, thank you _so much_ for making these tutorials so clear and easy to follow. I've tried other so-called 'tutorials' and almost torn my hair out in frustration!
Your tutorials are so wonderful because I can actually do them and have success! Your sense of humor keeps me laughing! And my three husbands and I love the four heart design! Keep making more, I'll keep watching, just not longer than 5 minutes please, I have the attention span of an ant!
Hi David! I drew this for my mom right after you posted the video two years ago. Great instructions. I ran into more health issues (trigger fingers + the regular spinal cord issues) before I could finish the drawing with colored pencils and water colors...and do a celtic border. That's what I'm working on now. I love your videos, David. You and Dearing Wang certainly inspire me to get drawing again. :) I hope this finds you well and you continue to enjoy, and share, your creativity. Blessings, and Happy New Year!
Thank you brother, I appreciate your work... 😉 Our Ancient Ancestors had some serious talent 🏆...! You too, thanks again. Ireland forever, ☘️ Going there before I die is definitely on my bucket list. 😉
I'm a mixed medium artist. I work in paint, clay, glass, fabric, plaster, metal. . . . . Pretty much anything I can get my hands onto gets incorporated into something. I love your videos and others like them. We are all creatures of out experiences and every encounter changes us. It works the same way with art. Everything we see and learn gets crammed in our head and changes the stuff that's already there. Our brain mashes and mixes and lord knows what will come flowing out?! Now where did I put that acetylene torch?
@@davidnicholls100 You are such a stinker David! I hope you and your family are well and stay safe. And I truly hope you are ready to come back and teach soon!
Thanks David: this technique is what I have been looking for sketching. I have been practicing overlaps with my carving, now I see to keep them a little larger and not so busy. Just what I need to practice during self isolation. I hope you and yours are well... Cheers Jerry Alliston Ontario, Canada
Hi Jerry, thanks for your kind comments. I'm glad you found my videos useful. It'll be something to do to stop you from getting cabin fever! It's a weird situation, isn't it? Me and my family are well, here in UK. Hope you are, too.
Hope you're correct. Saw an interview with Nick Dagan Best yesterday (from a few months ago), where he seems to think election night might be better for the orange menace because of his Jupiter placement then. 'm so worried.
I've wanted to draw Celtic knots for sometime but I can't draw a straight line with a ruler but your techniques make it easy and your quit amusing as well . thank you
What a lovely thing to say, Nathan!! I wish I knew everything you need to know, but sadly I don't! Meanwhile, I'm afraid you'll have to put up with my Celtic design and calligraphy! Thank you for your very kind comment - I appreciate it :-)
So beautiful! Mine didn't come out quite like yours, I blame the ruler I used to make my grid. A very cheap one, probably should through it out, but the way you explain it is a way I can easily learn! Great job!
I was using a 6B here, but for no other reason than it would show up on the video. For finished work i'd probably start with an H and finish with a 2B.
“For ladies only or gentlemen of certain persuasion”. Are you sure you want to say that? I’m not a girl, nor gay and I like the tutorial. You are actually offending everyone. Bad boy!
Yes, I live by the sea in Brighton UK. They are what are known as seagulls (herring gulls to be precise). They are a pain in the arse! They are aggressive, noisy and keep us awake at night. Someone living opposite told us that she counted over 1000 of them on our roof one day! (Don't get me started!)
Down here in Plymouth they're called Shite Hawks, I feel your pain, quite literally! One flew in my window once years ago and stole my son's dinner while he was in his high chair, they've got some front on 'em aye!
Absolutely terrible explanation. You did this with no measurements. But that's the problem. The circles cannot be hand drawn, or at least give us a size. If circles are hand drawn, you will mess up the lines as they won't connect because the circles are not uniform. You will also later mess up the hearts. Also doing this with only 1 pencil is terrible idea. Unless you have a pencil like in the video. But a normal one is not good as you need 2 to draw the square lines and another for the whole thing. Also you should have said to draw the square lightly as if it's drawn strongly it removed the whole effect. The pattern is great, but this was a terrible tutorial.

Both
Fine, but your breathing is distracting, better some soft background music or silence.
Sorry for breathing; I'll try not to breathe in the next video. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I sure wish you hadn’t said anything about people’s persuasions. Why would hearts be just for women?
Mr. Trevors I have 4 husbands so this video is useless so me and I can’t do the art assignment
