I’m with you on bench height. I make my benches higher than most and I like to include a tool tray at the back of the bench too. That way when I’ve got tools out being used on a project they can be out, but still be out of the way. Sometimes working on leather working projects, the piece I’m working on us fairly large and I may need to move it around on the bench while working. If you gave tools sitting on your bench, you’re constantly moving things around to reposition the work and knocking things over or off the bench, but with that tool tray, or tool well on the back edge of the bench, I can just shove a tool off the work surface, it drops down into the tray and I can move my work around and it can be anywhere on the bench and even overhanging it with having tools underneath or getting knocked off onto the floor.
I will never be a gunsmith but I am just starting out in reloading. Your logical suggestions in regards to your workbench make perfect sense. Look forward to your videos

I'm setting up my first work bench as I need to work on a whole list of firearms, so picking up some USA brass punches, and a few other tools for the odd jobs I need and searching RUclips for workbench set up ideas but this is AMAZING lol
I had to stop watching out of envy. Nice shop! I am currently getting more tools and rearranging my space to make it more user friendly but I do not have that much square footage.
shop is looking great man, i cant wait to get into the class i think im going for the masters an then grab the enhanced later down the road an see how it goes

I'm currently going through the AGI Level II program. As an existing DIYer and amateur woodworker, I am converting my VERY SMALL woodshop into a combo wood and gunsmith shop, so space is at a premium. My gunsmith bench is 8 feet and I have a wood assembly table on the other side of the shop that is 8 feet that I can use if needed. But for everyday disassembly, part replacement, etc I was looking for pegboard arrangement, shelf space, etc and this has been really helfpul. Your layout here is really economical and gives me a lot to go on. Thanks!
That’s great!...keep me posted on your progress...if you get to needing help don’t be afraid to reach out, thats what I’m here for... It took me 4 1/2 months to complete courses...I opened in October...the hardest part was getting the timing down for completion of building the new larger shop and ATF interview to minimize down time...opening was pretty easy as I already was involved in a lot of “projects” so people were just waiting for it to be official...

Looking at schools online, and going to do some NRA classes at Montgomery Community college. It’s looking like MGS right now. Also started the search for used equipment deals. Your shop looks great. Also is that a 2 or 9 speed mill dril? Ty
I have NO space, but am retired and moved to a smaller place. So, I did what you did and went "Mini" with my tools. I have a small lathe. So far, no complaints. I cut a stepped liner for a barrel (.515 tubing) and it came out perfect. The only thing I don't like is it is not 3 Phase and I cannot throw it into reverse. I have a small mill. I got lucky and picked up a bench model surface grinder. I just picked up a cheap furnace to heat treat parts-have not tried it out yet. I have a stainless trough to do rust bluing. It is like that old saying "Do the clothes make the woman, or does the woman make the clothes. It applies to machining and tools too. The only warning I have for the younger guys is you need an FFL to do outside work. You cannot hold someone's guns in your shop with out one.

I'm trying to find out how to make the actual bullet shells themselves I don't care how the reload them I can find many many of those videos but nobody will show me or at least I can't find it of how the actual shell itself is made

How long ago did you take the course ? Where are you located ? Do you do most jobs by the hour, how much do you charge per hour , or for some jobs . Im trying to get an idea roughly how long it would take to recoup my investment . Could I call or text you ? I would like to talk to people who have taken this step.
This is an old video…and has since “grown” the original shop was (in this video) was 16x32. Since then 16x16 has been separated from main shop to use as firearms storage and dedicated reloading area. Main shop is 16x32 with a plan to expand the new machine shop side to 20x40 then the total area would be 1312sqft or so…
Hmmm, barrels seem to fit just fine in this even at 28in long…if it didn’t, I would get a bigger machine so that I don’t have a breeched seal allowing blasting media to get into everything else in my shop…
I am very patient…I search Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and hibid mostly. You can also check out high schools and colleges that are either upgrading or are eliminating machining from their programs…
Any suggestions on schools for online. AGI price wise is out of the question for me. No time for full time college so an online course will have to do. I will take machining classes on short term basis to help their as well as NRA short term courses at Montgomery.
Charles Bonanno what a lot of Modern Gun School folks seem to do is supplement with AGI....or you could look at penn foster or Stratford...I’ll know more about Modern on Monday but it doesn’t look bad, their course also covers reloading which I do feel is necessary to understand if you’re a gunsmith(or want to be). And they have a pretty reasonable payment plan...
@@G3UNLIMITED judging by the course outline, i do not. there are elements of their courses that i like, mostly on how to run your business, but as for as gunsmithing, in this case, i think you'll very quickly fall short. the only way to know for sure is to call and talk to someone. personally, i dont know what you'll learn about gunsmithing for $700.00. other then you might be able to work on a single type of rifle or pistol.

What did you use for the top surface of your workbench? It looks like some sort of laminated particle board.
Keith R it is 2x’s on edge with a particle board top that has been sealed w/industrial paint sealer...very durable and chemical/waterproof....

The lil red mill drill was a 12 speed...sold it last week as I upgraded to a PM 932m with all the bells and whistles...

Can't say I'm a fan of all those electrical cords down at dog chewing level . You never know . Mighty fine shop though .
