Gunsmithing is a great hobby and a rewarding profession. Where you can escape to your shop and tools and enter a world that you can enjoy. Some people fish, I have my lathe. Weather its a small job you are doing at the kitchen table, or you want to go all out and craft custom rifles and pistols, its all the same. A journey, where you can tune the world out, become absorbed and attentive and immerse yourself in this wonderful thing called gunsmithing, and maybe, for a few hours, life would be perfect. I hope that following me in this journey, you can learn to make good guns even better, and develop your creativity that would allow you to add your personal signature to every job you do, and, most importantly, never stop learning.

I am torn on MGS over AGI. This course is obviously more affordable than AGI, but it seems you get more out of AGI. Getting the tools from MGS would be nice to get a bit of a start. The thing about AGI is the amount of firearms they have in their course over what everyone is saying about MGS and the lack of "modern" firearms in their program. I have requested info from both schools and am waiting for them to show up in the mail to hopefully help with my decision. I work for a department that has tuition reimbursement program, up to $5250 per year, which i think MGS would qualify since it's accredited. I don't see anywhere that says AGI is an accredited program. I'm also 40% service connected veteran, which i might be qualified for education benefits through the VA. Is there anyone on here that could help more with the pros and cons of these courses? I've even considered doing MGS first then doing the AGI program once done with MGS and hopefully having a bit of a "leg up" so to speak.
Very nice!
Nice spread and well organized. A lot of smiths try to pack 1000 tools into a 3x5 workspace where yours have breathing room. Well done mister.
It happens when you start something new😊
I’m with you on bench height. I make my benches higher than most and I like to include a tool tray at the back of the bench too. That way when I’ve got tools out being used on a project they can be out, but still be out of the way. Sometimes working on leather working projects, the piece I’m working on us fairly large and I may need to move it around on the bench while working. If you gave tools sitting on your bench, you’re constantly moving things around to reposition the work and knocking things over or off the bench, but with that tool tray, or tool well on the back edge of the bench, I can just shove a tool off the work surface, it drops down into the tray and I can move my work around and it can be anywhere on the bench and even overhanging it with having tools underneath or getting knocked off onto the floor.
Been thinking about signing up for gun smithing college online but im in the mikitary and dont know how a military instalation will react to someone having weapons and tools mailed to them what type of equipment do you receive in general?
Great VID and info, This helped me greatly. Good luck to your son as well.
Very nice setup.
I am looking into to enroll in the program. Where do I start?
I'm currently going through AGI's gunsmithing courses and seeing this set up has been informative and inspiring. Thanks.
I’m not letting the ATF tell me where to keep my guns
I'm currently going through the AGI Level II program. As an existing DIYer and amateur woodworker, I am converting my VERY SMALL woodshop into a combo wood and gunsmith shop, so space is at a premium. My gunsmith bench is 8 feet and I have a wood assembly table on the other side of the shop that is 8 feet that I can use if needed. But for everyday disassembly, part replacement, etc I was looking for pegboard arrangement, shelf space, etc and this has been really helfpul. Your layout here is really economical and gives me a lot to go on. Thanks!
can i ask if the gun be made even if not a machinist?
Very well done. Not many videos if any showing a functional work space. Thanks for sharing.
Here's my 22-250 ruclips.net/video/OvPL_YAgbHg/видео.htmlsi=KTqoeeZ45O0U9h1o
here I am with a 10x16 building. definitely may need to upgrade.
Seems like there really isn’t a shortage of programs out there now. The toughest decision is which one will you learn the most from and secondly which ones are recognized in the economy
Hey David! Hope this find you well. Can we get a 2023 update on your journey? I’m heavily debating on enrolling into AGI but as you mentioned in the video I’m having doubts if this is a career choice that’s worth investing and pursuing. Thanks! Blessing brother!
I have been a Machinist, and CNC Machinist for over 20 years. I Love guns, I tinker around with them, but never had any formal training.. I have a 2 year Industrial Maintenance Diploma from a Community College, and a Tool & Die Journeyman's Card. I would like to do Gunsmithing more, and use my Machining skills to help.. Do you think this would be a way to go? thank you for the video.
1:03:18 I will be reaching out to you soon from my personal email, I don’t think RUclips is attached to it I absolutely love this presentation and will finish the last few minutes of it. So invaluable to me. I have questions on things about equipment needed for projects Ie mill /drill press, lathe etc. for advanced Gun smithing. When did you do your AGI? A list of base tools equipment na homes a D tools to do the majority of work for pistol rifle repair and accuraizing/trigger jobs etc. I am just about to turn 59 and want to do this ad a supplement /replacement income into retirement. Unfortunately I did already spend 5 k on the Master Armourer course from AGI. It’s… ok so far. Guess just finished first dvd. You certainly have an David fan on my end. Thankyou
Did you get an FFL? Is your shop in California as well?
Not sure when s&w came out with performance center but that would be your aftermarket trigger
Haven't seen any new activity on this channel? Does anyone know what the situation is?
Saturday July 8th 2023 and I just got all of the paperwork in the mail. I'm seriously contemplating signing up for this and then moving on to the advanced gunsmithing II after.
I went with a 38" height and 40" wide. I couldn't be happier. Great ideas
Hello I'm 53yrs old, and I too have the same wooden gun cleaning box
Im here for the dogs under the bench
I am starting my education as a gunsmith for my retirement. Your shop is OUTSTANDING in my opinion. I am saving this for future reference for when I start business. Good luck with your business. Take care.
Great video
I like working on firearms as much as the next guy. Would absolutely be in heaven if I could do it as a profession. However there is no money in it, high end median income hovers around $40-45k/year or about $20/hr. Some entities in the country who for some reason are movers and shakers instead of labeled what they are talkers and squawkers... Are constantly trying to take your job away, make it harder to operate, have to have an ffl for whatever reason. It costs as much for school as other trades like Electricians and pipefitters, but they get effin PAID. The hoops, time, and beaurocracy BS, make it very unattractive and frankly unrealistic a career choice, at least for this guy.
Hey im 17 and i really want to start a fire arms career where can i start and what can i do now
Impressive; very.
I have pretty extensive machining, fabrication and knifemaking experience. Would starting at basic be an advantage? Or should I go to more advanced? I don't want to miss anything, but I also don't want to be stuck on filing stock flat or cutting radii on a piece.
That's the one I've been leaning towards. It seems like a good balance of affordability and flexibility. The SDI just seems too expensive; for the price they charge, I could do brick and mortar. The Penn Foster seems a bit too dated and the AGS had a less genuine feel.
We have more in depth cirrculum and more hand on projects at half the cost of SDI. There are no essays or writing assignments as well with us. I hope this helps!
I see you have put a lot into your education and business and your very organized. When people come into your shop they see that you do good work and clean work also they have great confidence in you.
👍good vid

I’m 47 and about to enroll. I think. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you so much! I needed this!
Dave ! I need some honest advice. I too am looking into an online gun smith school. I’m looking at MGS and AGI. I saw one of you later video regarding your son attending MGS. What would you advise me?
There's a problem here that thing is too pretty I'm not sure I'd want to take it hunting
What happened to the channel? I was hoping for an update on this video. Do you still think Modern is the way to go?
Thanks for the info. I am going to checkout mgs I'll be in tough
I love all the dogs sleeping in your shop
Great video! Those dogs beds are the obvious #1, need to have your best friends right besides you.
What happened to DH gunworks ?
Would love to see a direct compare video betwern MGS and AGI. Since he has direct knowledge of both.
Nice cat.
Any graduates have anymore input on MGS? Please share if you would please.
