When it comes to games like FBL where you find something automatically if you're looking (and with other similar GM/PC knowledge conflicts), rather than trying to come up with a skill I treat it as an oracle roll with the odds set on the fly depending on the context. In those cases it's representing the % chance that my character would actually look in the first place. For such ad-hoc 'behavior' type oracle questions I like to just set an 'out of 6' chance and roll a d6 to quickly and fairly take care of it
@@amanisalone I definitely let my PCs get better if the context demands it. For example a reckless character *may* become more cautious if they have a brush with death as a result of their lack of caution
I've just wrapped up a Vaesen game and was looking at what was next and here it is! I've not played FoLa yet and I think the idea of using the Stronghold as a central hub is a fantastic idea. It allows participation in a group effort without removing the solo aspect. I'm in :)
Per your plan, you might want to look into how old play-by-post games were managed. Sadly, I don't have a reccomendation as to where to start research, but I don't doubt that info is online.
The details of eating, drinking, hunting and camping every day/every hex seems kind of cool at first, but I can see this routine getting tedious if your adventure is taking you across the map. Curious to know your thoughts on this.
My uncle gave me a rpg game back in the 80s based on actual overland hiking and wilderness survival and it was like that, very tedious record keeping of like all your real world health, thirst, hunger, weariness, injuries, declining awareness and sensibilities ,confusion ,if you dont get to water sources often enough or you cant find enough nourishment. It has different scenarios that dropped you out in the middle of nowhere in wilderness or mountains, etc and it did give you topographical maps of the areas and ya had to navigate your way around and avoiding wild animals stalking you and bad weather, cold etc. It had real world compass instructions book for navigating and outdoor survival book also. I never really got time to get into it, i couldnt get any friends interested in playing it either. Lol Thats probably main reason i didnt take time to get into it, as it would've been a solo thing and not as interesting without other persons also experiencing it and having the interactions. I always thought it would be a good tool to use with another game that needed that sort of scenario base.
I think if I can streamline it, I might make it more automatic. I also need to eliminate some of these daily things and just abstract them, because yes it can get a bit tedious!!
@@d.aardent9382 Do you know the name of the survival game? Sounds kind of cool. If survival is the context than I can see those activities being important to the game. In an RPG, I don't think those activities are as critical to your story, but instead make for good random travel events.
Eat and drink the first thing in the morning (because breakfast is the most important meal of the day) and hunt/forage only when you need to. The rules say to roll for RE once every quarter day while you hike, which means you can travel 2 hexes on open terrain before doing so. If you remain in the same hexagon you roll RE once each day. Now i'm aware of the new hex procedure for solo but i don't agree with it having twice as many RE each day on open terrain, making travel more dangerous between rests than difficult terrain. Maybe all activities could take 3h instead of 6h on open terrain to balance things out. I personally find the sleep/scout situation most awkward to handle but i guess you wake up even if you don't see them coming.
Video 78 of me liking and then commenting on every new upload to tell the viewers that the Man Alone Podcast is absolutely some of that sweet, unhinged audio/vocal-honey. Psssst. Am I the only person that absolutely loathes movie franchises within the Marvel and DC universes? Like I don’t have the time, effort, or will power to keep up with it all. On top of that, I just don’t find it interesting at all. Am I alone? Is this a hot take? I do like cold cuts.
No dude you're not alone. Not only do I not care, I began actively loathing them. I also used to LOVE comics when I was younger, and I went so excitedly to the first two iron man movies and I could just cart a trajectory of my disillusionment from there as I realized it was a mirror to a culture that it was serving as the lone unifying cultural "event" and that was just so sad
Heya, I know you're cheating on Pendragon with this already. But could you actual play some mothership? There's little to no solo play online, only the module that goes underwater
Yeah I can do that! I've got the deluxe set. I do have Thousand Empty Light solo (I think that's what you're referring to) and also Space Station Xeno (more of a review). But you're right, I should solo that!
The Battle Beagle is a fiercely loyal companion and an overwhelmingly imposing foe. It's good to have a Battle Beagle on your side.
He bite. He fight. He do not fright. You do not want Battle Beagle in your sight.
@@amanisalone Full of might, he still like Sprite.
I’m sure you already found this, but that Solo module has an expanded encounters table that decides which book you should roll on.

That's probably the right way to handle this, you're right. Though I like being able to get BETTER at looking for stuff!!

The co-op stronghold idea is awesome, I can't commit to contributing but I'd love to see occasional update videos going over how its progressing!

A Co-op stronghold. Anarchy in the Forbidden lands.
Hey, where did you source the black and white. hex map from?
Doodling! I love my rpg doodling.
Poodling!!! Thank you ODG!!!
"Beagleness of Beagles" = Beaglity

@@wayfaerer3574 sorry I'm out walking right now I'm sure I can figure this out if I was home but what is RE
AFAIK there is no leather shield, only small (6 silver, +1) or large (15 silver, +2) shield.

hell yeah
I would die for Zooma
That's gonna be the biggest challenge I just want to keep dying for Zooma, I'm afraid I won't even defend myself just so I can die for him
