Cool! if they are leaking by the shock shaft this can work.. try a thin washer first and then a thicker one if that don't work. see what happens hopefully it will work for ya.
I use thick rubber bands, I cut them to the correct length and glue each end of the rubber together forming a rubber o ring, I made my own O rings because I purchased a China upgrade for my rc and it came with fillable shocks, those shocks are leaky and cannot be oil filled because they don't come with genuine o rings installed. Really cool tip for leaky shocks
Hi yea those are bad but they may be leaking also from the shock body big O ring seal also...give it a go see what happens...I also have a fix for those arrma shocks my latest arrma shock fix video that I did ... I did a couple but my last one solved the leaky arrma shocks syndrome!
@@ShenRC hi mate, yeah I saw your video on using tamiya damper orings to stop the granite shocks leaking I was going to follow your video and try it and give you a shout out 👍
Outlaw's Workshop hi mate, yeah the stock shocks are definitely annoying, shens trick worked a treat, I tried the tamiya oring also with some after market main o rings and they worked a treat, no more leaking shocks, I did it all on video and I will add it soon too, but I’m behind at the moment due to buying a vinyl plotter decal machine so I’m able to make custom stickers now, I have been practicing the last few weeks, but I will post the video next week for sure 👍
Hi I did not try them but tamiya does make nice O rings, the little washer I show you use makes it compress the O rings a little more in the shock body and it makes them seal better around the shock shaft. Thanks for watching.
Sorry to hear that but you definitely must have did something wrong, mine are sill working perfectly and I do it to a lot of shocks all the time with no problems.
Great tip Steve! I'll definitely try this next time! Nothing worse than a leaky shock. It makes such a mess and gets dirt covered in everything. Thanks for sharing the tip buddy! 👌
You have awesome tips man. I ordered the "new" suspension kit from CN for the Grasshopper. I'm told the front shocks leak but the rear does not. I'm hoping this will aid for a fix if mine leak as well. 🤞
Thanks for the reply, i thought that you had tried the Tamiya o-rings & that they stopped the leaks on your front shocks. Did you not pursue trying the Tamiya ones.
@@gillian9178 O this is the kyosho shock fix video why I was wondering? Anyhow look at this video the tamiya O rings I used work better than the arrma ones. 👍 ruclips.net/video/FUhnuV6fhbc/видео.html
@@lektro808 Hi I would put a plastic washer or make your own like how I show and put one in each shock like how I did..It worked for mine it don't leak at all now.
Nice tip Steve! I wonder if this technique would work with the leaky Arrma shocks? I'm guessing probably not since it all unscrews from the bottom on those shocks.
Hi Errl you should be able to add a spacer in the arrma shocks also it may work but if it's the outside rubber seal that it's leaking from the shock body it won't help. worth a try. Thanks.
Hey errl I got a fix for the leaking 3s shocks. I use a slightly bigger o ring from lowes that works great. Instead of sitting inside the shock body like the stock one it sticks out and you screw down onto it (not too tight) and I haven't had one leak on the ones I fixed. It is in the plumbing section of lowes. Brand name is "danco" #6 orings 7/16 od x 5/16 id x1/16 works great for me!
@@cwatson42785 Thanks Chris! I will definitely be looking into that for the arrma shocks as they're great shocks but they leak which is really the only issue with them. I appreciate the tip brother!
@@ErrlRC no problem bud! Yeah they sell them right at lowes. Just make sure to put them nice and snug but not too tight. You will see what I mean. It works good because it's not inside the body. The shock body screws down on top of the oring. Its kinda like you gotta hit a sweet spot of not too tight or too loose but I did 3 of them and haven't leaked yet...Knock on wood lol. Shen also made a video on how to fix it too if you can't find those orings or wanna check out his leaking shock video he said works well too 👌
dude this Kyosho Javelin is a nightmare haven't even been able to run it as the design of this shock is ridiculous, the black little plastic piece in the end keeps lifting back into the shock body letting all the oil out im seriously ready to just get rid of this system and replace with shocks that actually work and i have been building these rc cars since the 80's and this would have to be in the top 5 of bad shock designs i have seen any help would be great as i would like to stay with the OG shocks thanks
Hi I am not sure I built a kyosho Javelin and I had no issue at all with my shocks, it's been a while and I can't recall what they were like when I put mine together but I remember I had no problems with them, I would take them apart and look at the manual maybe you put a part in them wrong or missed something? Thanks for watching.
This is really Bodging Macgyver style 😜👍 making your own washer with scissors is not going to stop the shock from leaking 😄 O rings are very cheap and the best solution 👍👍😳
Hi adding that washer most certainly does help to make the rubber O rings seal better, the thickness of that washer compresses the O rings more in the shock chamber and makes them seal better. these are new shocks and they leaked with the washer trick they now work perfectly.
While this may be a quick fix, for a leak. It is not how you actually fix the shock, this is binding the shock and increasing the tension. The proper way to fix the O-rings is with O-ring or shock grease. Dump the old oil remove the O-rings, wipe the inside of the shocks with a Q-Tip to remove debris, and coat the O-rings in the grease and put them back in. Then rebuild and replace the oil. That is the proper fix for a leaky shock.
Obviously you never watch my videos if you think I don't know how to rebuild a shock...I know how to fix a shock, this method is for shocks that you get that the O rings they have in them are not good and always leak even if you buy the new replacements they sell for them.
@@ShenRC And that was exactly what I said it is a quick fix for a leak, but you are not fixing it. I was not trying to call you out at all, but you may want to have a better description as it is not a fix, it is merely a stop gap that is extending the life of a shock that is simply no good as you describe since replacing the O-ring still wouldn't fix it. That means the casing is faulty, but by doing this you are also increasing the risk of a total blow out of some larger shocks since you are trying to block a gap by increasing pressure inside.
@@dustinbloomquist4494 I know what I am doing I had many many people thanks me telling me it worked for them, your the first person telling me something negative go figure.... can't please everyone.
@@ShenRC Again not trying to be negative but people should understand this is not fixing anything. And many of them probably just need a rebuild as they do not have faulty, casing or broken O-rings. Since you are not calling that out in the video or description, I decided to comment ... so sorry if it offended.
@@trevorcourt1403 HI You just add lexan custom made washers like I did or find very thin plastic ones with a large enough hole in them so they don't scrape the metal shock shaft. use all the stock parts and just add a very thin and washer it should work fine. if you add extra O rings or two thick of a washer it will deform the other O rings and make it to tight for the shaft to slide through and cause problems.
Dude, you made my day, you're a godsend !
