Ryan and Spencer in one place! This shock bleed video is very similar to Ryan's, maybe shorter? Both are great videos though, it's actually great to see how different people do things. In the 80's and 90's I had a completely different way of working on my car than my other teammates, however we did things the main part was that we were very successful at the tracks we went to. No RUclips back then so I had a tendency to try different things just to see what the effect was on the car. I'm bummed that my home track OCRC closed. Being an oval racer in my youth I had a lot to learn about driving off-road and learning what all the settings do on these newer cars. I was finally turning competitive hot laps when the track closed and I feel I still had a lot to learn. I contemplated the idea of opening a track of my own, but had a few things change in my life and work that would make it difficult right now. It's still something I would like to do, just not in California.
After fallowing your instruction, my shocks are spot on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the RC community. All the best to you in and out of racing.
Gas brings front up brake brings front down. It's more about practicing and timing. If ur new enough that it all still happens real fast then u just need more time driving. Have fun!
Thanks Beloved I was wreking my brain searching for this video...straightforward!! I just got a set of Hot Racing 90mm...thinking bout lowering my Granite V2..keep Driving
This is awesome, I've seen a ton of shock building videos but you are the first one I've seen bleeding them with the spring retainers on. Makes perfect sense. Keep up the good work.
Dear Spencer. I love your videos. I've been in the hobby for 3 years now on indoor B6.2 (& B74.1) buggies. Can you please do a video on rebuilding diffs, especially the B6.x as it seems to leak. Love your content, keep up the good work ☺️ from New Zealand
Hi Spencer, great vid on bleeding the shocks. Can you do a vid on shock positions on the car and why you should change because of a track conditions. Thanks Tommy in the UK.
Sorry I was watching and was wondering why the screw, what was it for? Then it dawns on me it's a bleeder screw. Duh. Thanks for the video, Bubba! I have the factory team associated shocks with no bleeder screws. Nice job!
Hey Spencer any chance you could give some insight on your foam insert selection? Closed cell vs open and strengths and weaknesses of both. Thanks in advance
Hi Spenser, will u be doing a battery charging/discharging and storage vid? So many opinions, I’m unsure what to follow, I just purchased the icharger 4010 duo, I’m learning, thank you
i know im randomly asking but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Maddux Camden I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Do you have to do this with shock boots removed? The boots seem to not only prohibit full compression, they appear to be causing a rebound effect since the rubber is being compressed.
Question, so in a real vehicle, you do want some rebound in the shock(the piston will push out) so i've thought that it should have some push when compressed like that?
. I find it hard to wipe away all the excess oil from the bleeder screw hole after I’ve compressed the shock shaft all the way in. If I put a 1.5mm Allen wrench tip inside the hole to take most of the oil out of the bleeder screw hole is this ok? Or will this allow too much air to re-enter the hole and stuff up the whole process ?
The only problem I have with this method of doing the second bleed after a pump is that even though it is a dead shock, the shocks are real squeaky because there is less oil, even if there are no air bubbles when doing the bleeding process. Any tips?
Dude you're getting so comfortable in front of the camera! Awesome info man!
Ryan Harris this is nice to see.

thanks a lot! so helpful for beginner like me!!
Thanks for explaining this. You made it clear and to the point
After fallowing your instruction, my shocks are spot on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the RC community. All the best to you in and out of racing.
Good stuff, this really helped me understand how to do this properly. I always thought that you wanted a little rebound, but I was wrong!
Hey Spencer, can you do a video on jumping, and how to control and manipulate the cars in the air...
Gas brings front up brake brings front down. It's more about practicing and timing. If ur new enough that it all still happens real fast then u just need more time driving. Have fun!
Great vid, Spencer. Very helpful. What are the symptoms of a shock with too little oil vs the excess rebound of one with too much?
Great tip on putting the shock cup on when bleeding. Never thought about that but it makes so much sense. Thanks Spencer!
Thanks Beloved
I was wreking my brain searching for this video...straightforward!!
I just got a set of Hot Racing 90mm...thinking bout lowering my Granite V2..keep Driving
that second step explains a lot on my end.. just built my first kit, schumacher storm st. and shocks have air still.
You create some of the most informative and helpful videos! Thank you!
What if you bleed it and it has no rebound but when you pull it out to full extension it sucks the shaft back in?
This is awesome, I've seen a ton of shock building videos but you are the first one I've seen bleeding them with the spring retainers on. Makes perfect sense. Keep up the good work.
Do you have a video for shocks with no bleeding hole
I like the trick of keep the spring cup on ... Super smart 👍 keep the videos coming 😉
Excellent, thanks for sharing.

Great video. I feel doing more informative videos like these will bring you much success.
Thank you so much. I apparently have been preparing my shocks totally wrong.
Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Hi Spencer, great vid on bleeding the shocks. Can you do a vid on shock positions on the car and why you should change because of a track conditions. Thanks Tommy in the UK.
Thanks for making videos and sharing your tips, God bless you and your family 😀
Do you also bleed when you arrive to a new track?
Sorry I was watching and was wondering why the screw, what was it for? Then it dawns on me it's a bleeder screw. Duh. Thanks for the video, Bubba! I have the factory team associated shocks with no bleeder screws. Nice job!
I like it. Please more light in your studio videos to help us see detail. Also how often do you change the oil / overhaul your shocks?
oh damn, all my shocks wrong, great vid, rebuilding all my shocks right now, pop pop paNDa kINg
You always have great tips keep them coming
Spencer, where did you get that holder you place your shocks in. Its the black holder that has a cream covered insert>
I think having the bleeder as high as possible in relation to the shock is the most important
Can you please do this with the new Rc8b4e? I'm not exactly sure on the perfect setup/feel on the 1/8 scale bladder shock.
Hey Spencer any chance you could give some insight on your foam insert selection? Closed cell vs open and strengths and weaknesses of both. Thanks in advance
Those pillows are legit! I have a few!
Thank you Spencer, that mad it easy and I’ll be doing that! Awesome pup by the way!🏆🏁
Glad it helped. Thank you!
Great tutorial. Thanks
@spencer rivkin do you use the shock bladder inserts inside of the shock caps?
Excellent vdo, thanks :)

Thanks for the videos man, also thanks for helping me this last weekend with my new b74 set up. I finally roll it to track and was looking good!
Thanks for the TIP Spencer :) I'm subscribed already ;)
When do you use xring seals ? Is that a immediate go to?
Awesome tip! Thank you!

@Maddux Camden It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass!
@Tucker Ezekiel No problem xD
After I perform your bleeding process, when I extend the shaft it pulls back in a little, is that a problem?
It’s normal for it to suck back in a little
@@spencerrivkinracing I appreciate you getting back to me.
Do you have to do this with shock boots removed? The boots seem to not only prohibit full compression, they appear to be causing a rebound effect since the rubber is being compressed.
Do you keep the bladders inside of the shock caps???
Do you bleed twice with a bladder style also to get a dead shock?
Question, so in a real vehicle, you do want some rebound in the shock(the piston will push out) so i've thought that it should have some push when compressed like that?
Difference is full size cars have pressurised gas shocks. RC cars have oil filled shocks.
@@warracer03 ahh yes true.
On a side note..... sweet ST185 in your profile. i had a 90. would love another clean one.
Thanks for the tip! :)
Okay yeah. But how do you bleed udr shocks?
.

Or will this allow too much air to re-enter the hole and stuff up the whole process ?
Question if anyone can help, rebuilt my shocks on a 22 5.0, the shock Collapses by itself. Normal or where did i go wrong?
The only problem I have with this method of doing the second bleed after a pump is that even though it is a dead shock, the shocks are real squeaky because there is less oil, even if there are no air bubbles when doing the bleeding process. Any tips?
I use green o ring grease in the bottom sleeve, that squeak is the shock oil in the o rings. The grease also stops leaking. Hope that helps.
Thank alot!!
So is it ok if the shock compresses on its own?
No
Does this still apply to the new 13mm shocks?
Yes.
That shock tool looks a lot like a crab leg cracker 😁
Welp i did mine wrong so back to the work shop i go lol!!
What the benefits of running dead shock to running one with rebound
I said the benefits in the video :)
Sorry miss that part
Thank u for info
@@spencerrivkinracing Hi Spencer, is there any issue with the shock piston drawing back into the shock body as long as there is no rebound?
Hate to say it but you started your video 1:30 in. That’s why I dread clicking RUclips instead of reading in text.
