Really nice small “no bag” build! I think this would be great for walk and talks, especially now that we have the MixPre’s. Being someone who wants to primarily do bag work, I definitely want to try designing something like this for smaller shoots where I don’t need a bigger bag!
Thanks for this I enjoy helping out and doing sound as a hobby on no budget indy films, I am getting on retired now and the people really appreciate the help with a bit better quality sound, when I can get away with it using a Zoom F6 and stingray bag around the waste with Sennheiser G4's and MKE2 mics and tentacle sync's getting away form bigger orca bag and harness
Hey Michael, great set up. I went to the mix pre 10t after using 552 and 633 for that same weight reason. My rig is still probably heavier than this streamlined rig. It really distributes the weight around your body as opposed to all the weight being totally out front. I also encourage everyone to get your harnass custom fit, no matter how long it takes. I was working for months with the harnass not set up right and my back was awful, kinda still hurts from that, but is slowly getting better. All the best.
@@MichaelWynneCAS Re: Customer fit. I had to spend many hours moving/ adjusting my harnass until it fit me like a glove, especially in the back area. Initially, when I got my bag, I didn't consider my bag weight when attached to the harnass, so it rode way too low, and putting excess weight on my lower back, instead of redistributing the weight to the shoulders, and waist. It's not particularly fun to do this but since I got it fitted correctly, I am not having any more back issues!
I have been looking at getting a MixPre for a light rig. The only thing missing is dual record. I have had too many SD card failures in the past to rely just on one.
@@MichaelWynneCAS You are correct, the Mixpre-3 II will make a backup copy to a USB drive after the take is finished. (It can take a while for long takes!)
An iPhone / GoPro chest mount paired with Wingman will help with monitoring levels and prevent neck strain. Super light to go with your neat and light set-up!
I have been going in similar direction. Been using Feather Rig for my Nova for a few months now. It is so light and with it having the receivers and ifb transmitter built in to the nova, and, the feather rig having the battery cup, Most gigs are covered. I also use Ktek pouch for my wireless keyboard for on the go meta data.
Great low profile rig! i always try to optimise my rig to get it even lighter. love the size of the mix pre 3 but the lack of XLR/AES is a dealbreaker for most of my work
For the body straps, do those typically work with any sound bag, or do you usually need to get one specifically made for your bag? And is this the best body strap you've used? In the market for a body strap and waist/belt strap
Hi Ryan, I’m sure there are some specific options out there, but with my rig I typically use different size carabiners, etc and just tweak according to the set up.
That’s awesome Michael! Curious, can list all of the accessories and harness you are using to keep your mix pre II, 822, and other items on your belt? It’s like Batman’s utility belt down there 🤣.
Relatively discreet, practical and well thought out. Thank you for sharing 😊 Perhaps it can evolve with the MixPre6 and the WisyCom MCR54 towards a Rig for 4 lavs and a wireless boompole.
Gotham Sound should stylize this in their own fashion and call it Batman's utility belt. 😉🦇 This is definitely cool. Can you provide links for the belt, pouches, clips, and harness?
Nice setup for those smaller jobs. Thanks for sharing!
You bet Curtis!

Thanks Daniel, looking forward to seeing what you come up with! I’m def going to keep evolving the set up on my end as well!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼 mixpre 3 is the best investment I could ever imagine. Powerful little unit. Thanks for sharing the pro audio life!
Agreed Okei! It’s amazing the tools we have available today doe the size and budget!

For clarity: Your set up distributes the weight around your body and looks more comfortable compared to standard bag mixing.
Great idea about custom fitting harnesses, I’m curious who you had do that or did you modify an existing one?

Great rig, I use almost the same setup based out of a small Orca bag.
Thanks Neil! Always good to go light when the job calls for it.

I believe the V2 has dual record with a USB drive if I’m not mistaken, but the DCR822 can act as a dual system of sorts as well.

Sounds awesome Adam, I really like what the Nova offers size and feature wise! Not familiar with feather rig?
Beautiful set up and very low profile!

Thabks Mx May. Yeah, AES would be killer. Maybe V3 down the road.
Love this setup, Michael! What’s the harness you’re using?
Hi Ryan, here it is!

Sure thing Carlos, good idea. I’ll ad that to the vid description soon.

Totally could see that Ahmed!
What harness are you using for the mix pre 3? I would like a setup like this when I go overseas.

Have you tried this with a 633 setup?
Not with the 633, too heavy for that.
What’s the shotgun mic?
Pretty sure it’s a Schoeps CMit 5u

@@MichaelWynneCAS Hi! Another mixer looking for the belt/pouches!
What Mic it's inside the Cinela Così?
Started out with something like this 7yrs ago and went backwards lol.
Haha, it took pain and a little bit of suffering for me to see the light again myself.
Did you think about the background in this video before you rolled? :) I kid you...
Lol- it’s not my best BG! But hey it’s youtube - it’s supposed to be organic
