- In this epic 30 minute take we go in detail through Toms Radio Mic Box, Interior Mic Box, Charger Box, Rigging Box and his Sound cart setup!
Big thanks to Tom Williams for taking time out to demonstrate with Simon from URSA Straps his amazing sound setup.
We chat about on set communications, working with costume dept, his on set work philosophy and how things can go wrong!
Toms sound cart includes an Aaton Digital Cantar X3, 2x PSC 3 way racks which contain Lectrosonics, Inc., Wisycom & Audio Limited dual receivers, CEDAR Noise reduction for an output bus only, a Comms combiner to use with Motorolas, an amazing antennae array and so much more.
We take a look inside Toms custom built Interior Mic Box. This beautifully designed case contains a huge selection of Schoeps Mikrofone, DPA Microphones & Cinela kit. We also look at how Tom rigs wireless booms using Audio Ltd A10 Transmitters. Later in the video Tom demonstrates his brand new Charging Box which basically does everything!
Tom Williams works as a Production Sound Mixer for Feature Films and TV Drama. He is currently mixing a spy thriller feature called "355" with Jessica Chastain.

I return to this video every 6 months for inspiration. Pure A-list sound mixer vibes!
Oh good, I'm not the only one!
this video deserve more recognition. It is the best of all internet
Tom is awesome & one of the stars of the Sound Mixing scene
Would absolutely love to know where he got those velcro labels as well as those top trays for the pelican cases. Brilliant video that organization is inspiring!
I've simply lost count of the times that I've seen this, over the last three years.
It's simply one of my "go-to videos" when I need to get my mind into "DIY Ferment Mode"!
sorry im not sure why the quality of this video has been junked down to 240p - may have to re-upload. Also apologies for filming this vertically - last time I promise!
URSA Straps Great content!!!! Thanks so much!!!
Hey, How can I contact Mr. Tom Williams?
You're sound people we understand!
I'm so grateful for this kind content. Learning from season pros all the way over the pond. I need clean organization like this in my life haha. I'm so going to steal a lot of ideas here. Thanks for sharing Simon. All the best.
I've watched this probably 10 times over the past year, still trying to figure out how he made that battery charger case. Would love more info on that.....or to have him name a price and I'll pay it.
Love this video. Wish their was a detailed list of the gear for us newbies.
Just amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Finally on youtube. thanks.
Nice kit! So completely different from my cart with a lot of the same gear. Funny how us sound guys use the same stuff with completely different set ups.
I assume those top trays for the Pelican cases are custom-made?
the best sound kit
Would love to know what the silicone tape he shows at 5:00 is, that looks insanely useful.
So generously 🤗
Excellent!
All the bits
Expensive gears deserve like that!!
were can I find that car riging cup Holder thing? .....Organizing Hero
Where are those top trays from in most of your pelican cases?
I’m so curious about the Walkie combiner, does anyone know of a combiner that’s made for this or the schematics of how to build it?
it's called the Smyles Comm-biner.
What is attached on the belkin holder? What that called?
Headphones are Sennheiser HD 26 PRO from the looks of it - its funny they never mention them really.
I'm not a native English speaker, can someone please check what he says in exactly 28:00? Brand and model of the comms summing mixer? Thank you!
If someone finds those Lav cases, please let me know. Spent ages on their website looking for them with no luck.
Yes i would love to buy the boxes too
I emailed him about it, they don't make them anymore, unfortunately.
@@MayerAd Too bad. Most interesting item in the video to me.
First thing I wanted to search out. Too bad they don't make them anymore. If he is checking this thread - can you share the dimensions? I'm sure someone else makes something similar. Not black but these might work at 4.75 x 6.70 x 1.23 inches. www.amazon.com/Novelinks-Photo-Case-Storage-Multi-Colored/dp/B07C8YSWDR/
@@MayerAd My comment keeps getting deleted. I'm trying to tell you, no that's not true. Just search for L1611 CPC Farnell.
@26:45 he talks about some Thunderbolt connection to see his video feed on his MacBook pro.. What is he using to get that feed? If anyone knows.. Hook it up.. 🤷🏽♂️
I think he's using AJA SDI to Thunderbolt converter box
Using condoms to cover a transmitter, GENIUS!
Been doing that for years, myself. Best use for the things, quite frankly.
This is OCD heaven.. but I'd shoot the cameraman for shooting portrait!!
What was the noise reduction box(es) on the cart and what was the short-haired mic mount/cosy? I didn't catch the brand/supplier names
IS A CEDAR and the cosy is the new stuff from cinela
@@carlosibanezdiaz1072 Thank you
🤯🤯🤯
25:18 who is "Mark"? 🤔
Pre-Covid. Now you would need dividers for even two people to work from the same cart
I am so poor. LOL this rig is insane.
I have never heard someone say "bits and bobs" so many times in one sitting.
How much does a guy like this ask per day or project/month? Does anyone have an idea? Would like to know how they can invest so much in the expensive equipment.
This would have been even better in horizontal
Agreed! When we filmed this it was designed for our viewers using mobile phones on on Instagram & Facebook - so vertical videos work well for this. However all future videos will be horizontal :)
Where did you get the top trays?
Oh I thought this was a RUclips short but it’s actually a 30 mins vertical video
You may know sound but you don't know that you should shoot in LANDSCAPE!!!!!
this guy made me feel depressed. i'm quitting sound mixing today, will buy a hot dog cart.
I would have loved it more if he had held the phone sideways :(
British slang terms or UK brands need English subtitles for us USA viewers. Looks like he needs a cart with lots of large but shallow, full extension glide drawers, for all the
“Bits and pieces”.
Is this a fucking joke? Why is it vertical? If the content was not this good I would not have been capable of watching it
2020 and cant film in landscape
