I like them both myself: Gaijin Hunter tends to have a little more in-depth (though not always 100% accurate) info, such as including the motion values on attacks. On the other hand Arekkz Gaming has nice and easy to understand videos for people who aren't familiar with the subject, be it weapon guides or armor sets, etc.
Honestly I've heard Bushido Bow is straight up ridiculous. I am so stoked. The perfect dodge --> full charge completely captured the type of gameplay I want.
Even though it's best to go about with Guild and Adept with the bow, Aerial is still pretty fun to use if you time your shots right and know where you're aiming. But that's my opinion.
Guild looks best just because: You get 2 out of 3 of those sweet Hunter Arts! That back hop looks like a gift from Heaven and doesn't require to be up close on the monster like Bushido BOTH POWER AND ARC???!!!!! Wow that's like, everything I could ask for!
As a fellow bow spammer I'm in love with guild as well and now I'm actually interested again in MHX once we finally get it. Exactly as you posted this is a gift for the bow in every way.
Now that I have the demo, I'm so happy for your guides. They explain the everything perfectly. Loving adept bow so far. Don't really care for arc shots, and the perfect evade is amazing.
nice. I came here because I waited until the Generations demo before really trying Bow. Being used to weapons like GS, HH, LBG, DS, and Hammers, I realized how much I am bad with Bows by comparison. This tutorial helps.
Update: ok. The followup powershot really did the trick. I went back to the demo and did the advanced mission and this tutorial made a mission I struggled with to one which I can solo easily. Many thanks for this tutorial. I was wondering why I was having such a tough time with just this weapon, while my mainstays were so much easier.
Nice to see the Bow in action!! Seriously tempted with it, especially with Guild style looking so solid. Strongly considering using the Bow or Lance when Cross hits the west, so will be coming back to this video when that time comes =)
I swear, mate when I saw the word BOW on your video that appeared on my sub feed, I fell off my chair thinking it might be a new skill or weapon in the Division. ROFL
I actually just picked up Bow in 4U on a whim and am really enjoying it. While tough to manage solo, bow shines in multiplayer and it lets me just run around and hit legs for trips very easily, especially with a blast bow (only status a bow can have naturally; doesn't stack with status coatings). Also, I can't see heavy-type shots being used as they lack any range, especially online where melee range risks getting tripped out of your charge.
Great video! Agree with you - Guild and Bushido look like the most fun on Bow. I never really played Gunner that much but I want to change that for MHGen, so I might just take bow. I was never a really big fan of the arc shot (I played a bit of bow in MH4U) so while Guild is great because it has both Arc and Power shot and 2 hunting arts AND the backhop, I'll probably like Bushido better.
This will be my 4th Monster Hunter game, and every game I play I seem to switch my main weapon.. Frontier was LongSword, 3 was Duel Swords, 4 was Insect Glaive, and now I'm pretty sure I'll be using a Bow for Generations
Tri was SnS for me, then 3U was Hammer/SnS, then in 4U I used Hammer/LS, and now I am thinking of going LS/DS since hammer doesn't work as well in most of the other modes. Oh btw in all of these I used the guns/bow, but not as much as the other weapons. I prefer 4U's bow the most of the games I'd used em in.
That progression is actually mine exactly. (Well starting with three, I didn't play before that) Near the end of my time with 4U I don't know why but something made me try to get into bow and it just felt really good. Now it's the main weapon I use in Generations.
DoomedLich Yeah definitely using bow more in Generations. However I tried to use the Dual Swords and was having no luck with em. So this time around I will be sticking with the Long Sword and SnS.
well i think i'm gonna be an eternal longsword and gunlance user ... but i use other weapon as well (mostly greatsword, insectglaive and the 2 axe), and now i'm gonna try da bow. who knows, maybe the bow is gonna be my third main !

I'd probably use bushido, simply because I never used the arc shots in 4U. never found I could hit with them and power shot just seemed to have more potential for easy damage. plus bushido evade straight into a max charge looks incredibly useful.

Coming from a rather aggressive DB user, Aerial seems to be my better choice. Considering the double air-attack and my decent ability to stay in the air for prolonged periods of time..

Honestly, while everyone is hailing the bushido bow to high heavens, looking at striker makes me happy they didn't remove the new backhop => roll => lvl 3, since I kinda disliked how powershots worked.
even after watching this i think ima stick wih aerial style :3 suits me better since i moved from insect glaive to bow and in my group am still considered the monster mounter since i am best with it since glaive was my main in 4u (btw hate the new glaive jump...)
got a question about Aerial Bow, how does critical distance affect the Aerial shots, is spread/heavy arrow essentially better because of the distance, and what level of charge are both X n A shots when in air? I'm asking cuz this will render Pierce shots useless for Aerial since you're above the monster and you only can vault over it at that short distance, am I right?
I'd like to say that I am pretty skilled with a bow in MH4U, but I didn't know that the power shot did extra damage, I just thought it served as a quick second shot. >.>
GalaticRush !? Don't get hit? Even blademaster armor doesn't protect very well as you progress through the game, everyone opts to not get hit in the first place. You also have the ability to dodge some attacks by being airborne like tail swipes. Also in general, Bow hangs around closer to monsters than Bowgun, unless you have pierce. which then wouldn't be good for most monsters with aerial
GalaticRush !? It'll happen as you play more and get better, as long as you dodge the main attacks too, getting hit by light stuff isn't so bad. Gunners especially have this mantra if that's all they do
see, now i see what i messed up, i was using bows and i was like, they all have arc shots, aaagh wheres my power shot. but i was using striker style, cause i was thinking, ill stand to the side spam my skills. I was using triple volley, haste rain and hunters oasis so i could heal and help people aswell on longer hunts, also stand on the side again, doing some shots as i regained some health

Can I say right now, I really do not understand why people love saying that the Bow is the most Blademaster-friendly Gunner weapon? So, like, sure; it has fewer coatings than ammo types, you need to be closer and more active usually than a gunner, and a charged release mechanic makes a bit more sense to a Blademaster than aiming and rapid/siege fire. None of this accounts for the multiple charge levels, arrow types, Power vs. Arc shot (thankfully not a problem in X but wasn't that way in 4U), variable critical distance based on arrow type, the fact that being closer to a monster means you're going to be taking more hits with your squishier armor, the Bow's weakest point being by far how AWFUL it is about not having enough coatings to get through one hunt, just how much the Bow depends on hitzones compared to the Bowguns... I can boil down the other guns into like four or five sentences; 'Get far enough away than when you shoot a bitch the screen shakes. Swing for face usually and if that's hard look on Kiranico for the high numbers. For Light, think hard on Elemental shots and focus on what each gun has on Rapid. For Heavy, decide how much you like crouching fire and play accordingly; Pierce shots are supreme.' Like, okay, I've come to enjoy the Bow since I came in on 4U, but telling a new, very stupid hunter like I was starting out that it's a good 'intro to gunner weapons' is a perfect way to get them to hate gunner weapons. I'm really not fond of the sentiment.
+Cobalt Kirikizan Also, yes, pretty please do a video on all the Coating types in X. Same with Ammo types. They added a lot that all sound super cool, and I want to see them and can't find them anywhere and it's the worst.
How do the various bow types (Heavy, Rapid, Spread, Pierce) interact with Aerial? Does the aerial attack use a generic shot, or will it use the bow specific shot? If the later, I can see Aerial being really good for breaking backs with the Heavy type.
Aerial uses the Lv.2 charge of your bow + critical distance. So yes, Heavy type would be good for breaking backs. Also Pierce types are only really good against Gammoth, Akantor, Ukanlos and Zamtrios in "ball" form, due to other monsters lacking the width from back to stomach to get all the hits. Same goes for Piercing shots with Aerial LBG & HBG.
Question 1: Does the bow melee attack still apply your current coating's effect for free (IE not using up a use of the coating) like in MH4U? Granted, that _usually_ wasn't a big deal (I've tried using poison coating melee alone to poison a monster... it takes AGES compared to just shooting it at them) although it did mean you could essentially have infinite melee-range paintballs so long as you kept one single paint coating on hand, lol. Question 2: That new Heavy shot sure doesn't go far if you fire it straight ahead... ... but if you were to arc the shot upwards, would you get decent range on it? If so, how far away does it lose critical range bonus, and would that be enough of a difference to not bother using it that way at all? Question 3: Since Heavy shot only appears to fire a single projectile (which does not hit multiple times, I assume?) is it considerably worse than the other shot types when it comes to status coatings? Does it have any benefit besides increased part-damage, to compensate? Does it deal KO/Exhaust like arc shots do?
what if you have trueshot and only shoot powershot? would it affect the damage output? i can see that when going directly for powershot, you have lower chance of getting hit by a counterattack
Any other benefit to Blade Wire, besides cutting tails with shots and i suppose decreasing your need to aim more? I would hoped it increased damage abit.
Bryanneo1 Same. I will probably only equip it situationally for tail needs, since Acceleration Rain and Trinity Arrow seem to be more aimed toward just hunting.

You know you get a critical shot if your screen shakes a little. If you are too close, than it won't register. If you are too far, than it will also won't register. If you know this and you are just having trouble finding the critical range, than just try to keep a small distance from the monster and slowly walk away from it untill the screen shakes.
I was wondering I'm looking to get into the bow for MHG but I always worry about cutting tails, I am willing to use other weapons to do so, but I was curious as to how effective the blade shots are at cutting tails, I tried to cut a nargacuga tail in the demo but was unable to do so so I'm sceptical as to how effective it is. If anyone with experience can let me know that would be great :)
You don't need blade shots to cut tails. The bow melee attack always does cutting damage, so if you mount and topple the monster, and you keep slicing the tail with a bow, it will eventually cut the tail. Unrelated matter, you equip coats with X+A, and the coats also effect your melee attacks.
+Adam Le Thankyou for the info :) I ask mainly for monsters with tails high up out of short range reach, and would still like to know how well the blade shot works :)
i think you can't cut tails in the Demo... but i can be wrong (i've tried with SnS and Narga died before i could cut his tail, pretty much hitting him only there)
+Arekkz Gaming Hey quick question is playing as a Palico or Felyne mandatory at any point in this game? I really don't give two ***** about this feature I would rather just not use it altogether.
If yo have not picked up the game yet. YES A MILLION TIMES YES. No you do not need it to progress the story but if you want your farm or foods or palicoes upgrade then you NEED to do it. The prowlers are handy when gathering though as they have unlimited picks/nets and only need to carry a map on them so they have more space.
hey I'm thinking about getting monster hunter generations but I'm stuck between the long sword and the bow to main on one hand I'm used to the bow but I like using the longsword if anyone can tell me which one is more fun to play in generations it's would be appreciated
Kevin Doskow Just do both. It's not like you have to pick a weapon class to be locked into, the only issue is needing different armor sets. But then, making gear is the point of the game, so...
Kevin Doskow I got a lot of mileage out of insect glaive, and longsword working up to high rank, with some dual blade, now I tend to use greatsword or gunlance a lot of fights (now that I have decent armor sets for it), just made a good hammer set yesterday and working on re-learning switch axe... I use a bit of everything, though I haven't settled on any Gunner sets in crazy about yet, lol.
im thinking about using bow as my main but im still wondering if the damage output is gonna be as shitty as mh4u. fun skill but if im not doing as much damage as all the skilled blademasters than im not interested in wasting my time with this.
if you want dmg I think you may be better off using bowguns. By design the bow isnt capable of dishing out massif dmg like the greatsword or the hammer. But still it's a great weapon and it would be sad to miss out on it because of such mundane reason ;)

Well yea i see what you mean but if i finish a quest in 15 min with dual blades and i use a bow for same quest and do it in 35 min, with a difference like that i i feel like its a good reason not to use a bow for quests. Thats how it was in mh4u. I would rather just play a good weapon with good players and get that satisfying feeling of stun locking a monster to death and finish the quest fast
you know i think bows are rather similar to bowguns in a way. while bowguns have limited ammo, they have infinite of normal 1 shots. bows seem a bit similar, they have limited coatings, but unlimited normal arrows.

humberto9811 each bow has two to three levels of charge each charge has a different type of shot (spread, heavy, pierce and rapid) they cannot be changed and if you want a specific type of arrow you need a different bow
+Jason Vil if they work like the cats in 4, i assume their weapons are basically interchangeable, doing either slash or blunt damage, unless you mean the side abilities like the boomerang/explosives and such.
ahhh moral crisis on hand i cant choose between the heavy bow gun or the bow i mean i love the bow but the stamina drain is the same reason i dont use dual blades as for the heavy i hate the slow movement same reason i dont use great sword agh cant choose anybody got some advice for a troubled hunter

Nothing, honestly. I just dislike how there's no real strategy involved with them, you ALWAYS TRY to do the double up of lvl 3 into Power shot.

So, like, sure; it has fewer coatings than ammo types, you need to be closer and more active usually than a gunner, and a charged release mechanic makes a bit more sense to a Blademaster than aiming and rapid/siege fire.
None of this accounts for the multiple charge levels, arrow types, Power vs. Arc shot (thankfully not a problem in X but wasn't that way in 4U), variable critical distance based on arrow type, the fact that being closer to a monster means you're going to be taking more hits with your squishier armor, the Bow's weakest point being by far how AWFUL it is about not having enough coatings to get through one hunt, just how much the Bow depends on hitzones compared to the Bowguns...
I can boil down the other guns into like four or five sentences; 'Get far enough away than when you shoot a bitch the screen shakes. Swing for face usually and if that's hard look on Kiranico for the high numbers. For Light, think hard on Elemental shots and focus on what each gun has on Rapid. For Heavy, decide how much you like crouching fire and play accordingly; Pierce shots are supreme.'
Like, okay, I've come to enjoy the Bow since I came in on 4U, but telling a new, very stupid hunter like I was starting out that it's a good 'intro to gunner weapons' is a perfect way to get them to hate gunner weapons. I'm really not fond of the sentiment.

How do the various bow types (Heavy, Rapid, Spread, Pierce) interact with Aerial? Does the aerial attack use a generic shot, or will it use the bow specific shot? If the later, I can see Aerial being really good for breaking backs with the Heavy type.
Aerial uses the Lv.2 charge of your bow + critical distance. So yes, Heavy type would be good for breaking backs. Also Pierce types are only really good against Gammoth, Akantor, Ukanlos and Zamtrios in "ball" form, due to other monsters lacking the width from back to stomach to get all the hits. Same goes for Piercing shots with Aerial LBG & HBG.
Question 1: Does the bow melee attack still apply your current coating's effect for free (IE not using up a use of the coating) like in MH4U? Granted, that _usually_ wasn't a big deal (I've tried using poison coating melee alone to poison a monster... it takes AGES compared to just shooting it at them) although it did mean you could essentially have infinite melee-range paintballs so long as you kept one single paint coating on hand, lol.
Question 2: That new Heavy shot sure doesn't go far if you fire it straight ahead... ... but if you were to arc the shot upwards, would you get decent range on it? If so, how far away does it lose critical range bonus, and would that be enough of a difference to not bother using it that way at all?
Question 3: Since Heavy shot only appears to fire a single projectile (which does not hit multiple times, I assume?) is it considerably worse than the other shot types when it comes to status coatings? Does it have any benefit besides increased part-damage, to compensate? Does it deal KO/Exhaust like arc shots do?
what if you have trueshot and only shoot powershot? would it affect the damage output? i can see that when going directly for powershot, you have lower chance of getting hit by a counterattack
Any other benefit to Blade Wire, besides cutting tails with shots and i suppose decreasing your need to aim more? I would hoped it increased damage abit.

I'm trying to get into using the bow but critical range is hard to understand. ;-;
You know you get a critical shot if your screen shakes a little. If you are too close, than it won't register. If you are too far, than it will also won't register. If you know this and you are just having trouble finding the critical range, than just try to keep a small distance from the monster and slowly walk away from it untill the screen shakes.

I was wondering I'm looking to get into the bow for MHG but I always worry about cutting tails, I am willing to use other weapons to do so, but I was curious as to how effective the blade shots are at cutting tails, I tried to cut a nargacuga tail in the demo but was unable to do so so I'm sceptical as to how effective it is. If anyone with experience can let me know that would be great :)
You don't need blade shots to cut tails. The bow melee attack always does cutting damage, so if you mount and topple the monster, and you keep slicing the tail with a bow, it will eventually cut the tail. Unrelated matter, you equip coats with X+A, and the coats also effect your melee attacks.

i think you can't cut tails in the Demo... but i can be wrong (i've tried with SnS and Narga died before i could cut his tail, pretty much hitting him only there)

If yo have not picked up the game yet. YES A MILLION TIMES YES. No you do not need it to progress the story but if you want your farm or foods or palicoes upgrade then you NEED to do it. The prowlers are handy when gathering though as they have unlimited picks/nets and only need to carry a map on them so they have more space.

hey I'm thinking about getting monster hunter generations but I'm stuck between the long sword and the bow to main on one hand I'm used to the bow but I like using the longsword if anyone can tell me which one is more fun to play in generations it's would be appreciated

Kevin Doskow I got a lot of mileage out of insect glaive, and longsword working up to high rank, with some dual blade, now I tend to use greatsword or gunlance a lot of fights (now that I have decent armor sets for it), just made a good hammer set yesterday and working on re-learning switch axe... I use a bit of everything, though I haven't settled on any Gunner sets in crazy about yet, lol.

im thinking about using bow as my main but im still wondering if the damage output is gonna be as shitty as mh4u. fun skill but if im not doing as much damage as all the skilled blademasters than im not interested in wasting my time with this.
if you want dmg I think you may be better off using bowguns. By design the bow isnt capable of dishing out massif dmg like the greatsword or the hammer. But still it's a great weapon and it would be sad to miss out on it because of such mundane reason ;)

Well yea i see what you mean but if i finish a quest in 15 min with dual blades and i use a bow for same quest and do it in 35 min, with a difference like that i i feel like its a good reason not to use a bow for quests. Thats how it was in mh4u. I would rather just play a good weapon with good players and get that satisfying feeling of stun locking a monster to death and finish the quest fast

you know i think bows are rather similar to bowguns in a way. while bowguns have limited ammo, they have infinite of normal 1 shots. bows seem a bit similar, they have limited coatings, but unlimited normal arrows.

humberto9811 each bow has two to three levels of charge each charge has a different type of shot (spread, heavy, pierce and rapid) they cannot be changed and if you want a specific type of arrow you need a different bow
