The charged back hop is literally my most used move
+Alyks Syriece (Ninjamonkey72) Same here, I love it.
Same here. I end almost every combo with it.
Same here, but I've seen a bunch of stuff that says use striker style, so I don't have the charge. I was confused at first when it wasn't activating, but I got over it by spamming round slash at enemies
Yeah, it's handy but i think that the benefits of 3 Hunting Arts outweigh the loss of the charge back-hop.
I have fallen in love with Striker SNS with my full Dreadqueen set.
Here's a suggestion
Sword & Shield
Striker style
Verdant Rapier
Full Ceantaur S set
Arts include:
Sword Dance I
Sword Dance II
Sword Dance III
seeing how well detailed and well edited this video was, i imagine making this was a giant pain in the ass. Good work looking forward to the next one.

ok this is awesome! ive been waiting to see info on exactly what moves were cut/changed for each style and im glad to see just that here. cant wait to see more
Arekkz you have & done by far (in my opinion) the best video tutorial for MH Weapons. others i've seen do visual clips but yours are way more crisp + the Subtitles up top help me a lot since i have a hard time trying to visualize the button inputs in my head. so for the next Weapons keep up the good work =D
Amazing video. I was afraid that the number of possibilities in X would've made videos and especially tutorials about it a lot for subjective but you gave a clear explanation of every possible way to use it. Love the new input UI so that we can follow up as you speak without having to slide back if we missed it. Again, great job. Can't wait for the next tutorials.
Yo, this is extremely helpful. Thank you Arekkz for starting a series like this, and keep up the good work.
I been looking forwards to this and I hope that you continue revealing all of the weapon's secrets.
The quality of your videos continues to skyrocket. Keep it up.
Hey, great video! Excellent attention to detail and good work conveying information without being overwhelming (maybe that's just cuz I know my MH lol)
Looking forward to the rest in the series, it's gonna make getting my friends into MHX way easier when it finally comes out in the west.
I thought this was an excellent video, clear and informative so I look forward to more! I agree striker is best and that combined with the oils makes SnS a very powerful choice. Keep up the great work and have a good Christmas break.
Long? 10 minutes isn't long. I cold watch these allllllll day. :P
You make them really enjoyable and informative. Great job, keep it up!
Awesome tutorial! Can't wait for the others =) So much detail! You've gone and made loads of work for yourself though, getting these out every Wednesday... Not sure if that's enough time to get in all the details for all the different weapons, but I imagine you've played them all at least once in the demo so... Guess it's not too bad (Plus the demo will probably save you some extra money that you're always lacking in game!)
So that means Adept style S&S gives you kind of an invincibility ,if you use it correctly, you kinda get an incredible mixture of both Adept styles counter invincibility, plus Ariel styles mounting ability that's awesome! the only thing slowing you down is the one hunting skill slot and which one to go with.
nice video arekkz, keep up the good work!
Nice vid, keep up the good work, all of your videos makes me more hype for when mhx comes to the US
I'm really enjoying these tutorials. I am currently waiting for the game to arrive from Amazon and I am sort of a new comer and I really don't know what weapon to choose and these videos have helped me narrow down a few options. I hope I get to enjoy the game when I get it.
Christian Dale So what did you think of the game?
Awesome vid can't wait for the rest! My only minor criticism is that during the airial style section you never mentioned how exactly your dodge roll changes compared to the other styles. I know most of the people watching this probably already know about it, but its still useful to mention in case there's someone watching this with no prior mhx knowlage.
The shield bash does fatigue damage. that's very important to note and a very critical reason to use the Shield Bash.
the end of the basic combo is a good decision to use if you nee to close the gap towards a monster because of that wide step you take.
Really useful video, can't wait for a lance style workshop.
Thank you for this video.
I think the new sword oil-feature is awesome. :D It makes the SnS a much more powerfull weapon than it was in MH4.
this new tipe of video gives me a better description of everything thanks
really can't wait for this game to come over!
As an SnS user, I do actually use a lot the charge attack, not only becasue of the dmg and reposition, but also because you can continue the roundhouse slash with it and start the combo again without interrution.
The striker style looks fun. I just recently picked up this game for the switch so I'm trying to see what all it's got to offer and I have to say it looks fun!!
Thanks for the tutorials arekkz Gaming👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😃😃😃😃
that set looks amazing
can wait to rock the SnS again. i avoided it in ever monster hunter thinking it didnt hold its own, then in 4g i gave it a go and fell in love. CANT WAIT!!
I main SNS for melee and I totally agree with your comments. The back hop however can sometimes be useful, especially in multiplayer, as it can make up for the window after losing the super armor from the first slash.
Great Video! just found this channel. good content! subbed!
Can't wait for your bow video. Hopefully by the time MHX comes to the US, i'll be ready to hunt with the best of them again.
oo tht narga armor looks awesome
Thanks for these videos, liked.
super informative video as usual i'll have to watch a few time to get my head round all the info in this video but none the less good job on the video
This is great content, i can't wait for the other weapon ones.
Which is the next weapon ?
Iv'e been using Aerial sword and shield the most, but it looks like if your good with Bushido, you can get just as many free mounts. I'm gonna give this stuff a try, thanks Aretkkz!
I hope that you do the hunting horn soon, that's what I'll be using when I get the game.
Another move in Guild Style from holding shield is that you can go straight into the charged attack by holding back on the circle pad and A. This is good for getting a charge slice in on a sleeping or fatigued enemy and you don't have a better option to do more damage.
#MHXforthewest
tried SnS Striker style , i really liked it , but since i always missed the shoryugeki i was clearing things pretty slowly.
Then i moved to the bow bushido style , it takes me around 15min to kills things , but i don't even need to use potions , the only hits i take usually get healed by the nyantas :3
I main SnS, and after watching this, I began using the charged back hop to the point where losing it for the hunting arts really isn't worth it. now that the English demo is out, I use bushido style. There's so many openings for rolls i literally get hit maybe once or twice the entire fight. no need for spin to win, or the super combo art. the streetfighter one is alright, but honestly, none of these arts are interesting or useful enough for me to justify sacrificing an INTEGRAL part of my SnS combo to get more arts.
For SnS it would be Guild, cause I actually like the Charge attack and only 2 Skills isn't that much of an issue, IMO; Round Force seems helpful enough that I might keep it on and just switch the other 2 out depending what I'm hunting/weapon I'm using. Striker would be my second choice.
watch gaijin hunters tutorial, you might change your mind later in the game and go to striker, sns has amazing lvl 3 weapon specific arts
The nice thing about Round Force is that you basically get an Absolute Evade that does damage, so it's like having two Arts in one. Guild can benefit this enough to offset only having access to two.
Guild having the back hop and follow up counter is more important most of the time for me to give up just for 1 extra hunter art. Though I did pick up Striker as well, the extra hunter art is going to Heal Gain, due to the skills I use with the armor. As Cabbage said, Round Force works just fine for evading attacks and also does damage in the process. And at level 3, if timed well it can save allies from getting hit as well, since it launches them out of the way, though I'd rather just keep it at level 2.
Arhen Dante if you get double cross, you'll want Stryker for SnS because there is a new Hunter art that combines all oils and makes s purple oil that can be stacked. So round force, blade dance, and chaos oil should be your 3 Hunter arts
X+A can also be used mid-combo or at the end of a combo to add a round slash finisher. Watching this video combined with GaijinHunter's tutorial taught me a lot.
Man this game looks amazing. I'm a poor pleb with a Vita that I got before I knew it was dead lol, only have a MHFU port from the PSP to play on it. It's still a really good, classic game to me, but now that I'm watching Generations footage it feels like it pales in comparison. Combat seems a lot more fluid and varied in this one.
I am definitely digging the bushido style for most of the weapon types it fits my play style perfectly
I love the Boshido style because it would let u dodge when u really need it, so yeah I would gladly take away all those special moves for those cool dodging technics
I am going through various ones of your MH4U videos atm! I pretty much bought a 3DSxl specifically for MH4U...perhaps I might be crazy :p
that armor is awesome
Great video! Can't wait to get my hands on this game!
Ah, the birth of a Monster Hunter legend himself
I did 80hrs of nothing but bushido SnS. Loved it. Hadn't touched this weapon in MH4, 4G or 3rd.
the charges back slash can give you an infinite combo, you can do it after the triple A and continue from the triple x
I use Aerial style SnS.
Because none of my friends have aerial or play Insect Staff. :
SnS = OP again :)
can perform KO's like Hammer and Charge Blade. Swift as an Insect Glaive and dual blades. Mediocre attack but still strong.
Nice tutorial. do all the attacks give super armor now? if not you should of mentioned that the x+a jump in slice gives you super armor for your combo or using a item afterwards which is a necessity online.
also press x+a after the 2nd x input you can go straight into the round slash
I love using Aerial Style with sword and shield
same here.
If I might add a few things:
the most damaging combo for SnS is usually R+X > X > X > A > A > R+X again and so on
the reason being that the final roundslash is actually pretty laggy so it results in a net loss of DPS on a standing target
also, the roundslash moves you forward quite a bit, and this is not really a nice thing when you're trying to focus your dammage on a specific body part
if you're unsure on being able to hit with the full combo, you can shorten it by skipping and X attack, so it looks something more like R+X > X > A > A > A (the roundslash in this case is quite usefull because if the monster moves away from you it's best to end the combo with your most powerful attack)
also, you did not mention a really important thing about the lounge slash (X+A version and backhop version)
that is, it gives you super armour (can't be tripped by teammates attacks and resists small wind pressure) for a short period of time, which is GREAT when hunting in multiplayer
X+A > X > X > A > A > uncharged backhop > X > X > A (and so on) is an almost fully armored combo (the DPS is not quite as good as the standing combo BUT you won't get tripped, which means that in the end you get most DPS this way)
for this reason I feel like Guild Style could be the better option when hunting multiplayer
last few things I want to mention:
if you roll on a small slope and press A (with your weapon out) you'll do the jumping slash (like you would by doing an X+A attack in the direction of the slope)
if you're climbing a ledge, if you press R+X+A when getting up, you'll also do a jumping slash
anyway, your guide was pretty solid, nice work! (would be nice tho you you could add these things in some way)
One downside to striker style Sword and Shield to note - losing your ability to hop back and dash back in prevents you from repeatedly using the dash in as part of the combo, which also means you lose the ability to refresh the super armour you get from the dash in attack (which prevents you from being staggered from small and friendly attacks). So while Striker is definitely good, if you hate being staggered online and you use Sword and Shield it might be worth using Guild and utilising the super armour dash.
Are you gonna do that video about the differences between the levels of the arts like you promised in this video?
I will give it to aerial style though. Playing with four hunters using the final paralyzing genpray sword is great. Not only will I get two mounts per hunt, I will also get a paralyze or two in. If playing with a skilled hammer or hunting horn user can lead to a ridiculous amount of time to lay damage on a monster with no drawbacks. Use the charged backhop in place of the strong combo. You can slightly adjust your strike position right at the begining of the charged backhop. This is great for positioning. Most of my SNS multiplayer time is aerial, even without para or poisen. Solo, I deffinatly go striker. But SNS can be used as a support and damaging weapon. Give aerial a try next multiplayer match and see for yourself. Great video though dude. Happy hunting.
Cool ninja outift
Arekkz, did you know you can get to the backstep by pressing back+A while guarding? This'll make it easier to find the timing for the Adept evade or if you need to get a step back out of range before going back on the offensive,
I was actually one of the few chosen people that got the English demo early :)
While I enjoy Bushido in concept, while it may be useful for extremely offensive players, I think that the style loses two really good things: Two super skills and a combo path. I feel as if the move set from 3U, with the striker style, is too simular to me. Thus, not only will I have nostalgia, I can also use the three super skills for status gameplay. AND, holy Shah, those phials will help for both solo and team play. Not only can you have minds eye and tenderizer, you'll also have exhaust, stun, even increased affinity.
Still, looking forward to Switch Axe and Hammer. Happy holidays and #MHXfortheWest!
Can you do light bowgun next?
one of the only weapons for which striker style is the best !
White gale armor nice, was it hard to get? And would this be good with insect glaive?
Dual blades tutorial next please
I find that after an Aerial jump you get your A > A > A combo back.
the next hunter weapons tutorial hope you can give ideas on each style best utilization while in group hunt. just saying just pick striker is the best will make other style like a obsolete disadvantage of using it.
The purpose of the 'best style' section of the video is purely to say what style I like the best. I encourage everyone to try for themselves and pick their favourites though.
Hahaha, turns out I use the back junp move quite a lot, I guess I'll have to go with bushido then
I think this is the only weapon id prefer using striker with 0-0...I love using Arial with the ranged weapons and i love using bushido with Hammer and long sword. But this makes it sooooo worth the 3 arts minus the charge thing i never use xD
Did I see right, at the beginning of the video did u change s&s or was that due to the oils u mentioned
6:02 is wrong because after you do the Ariel attack once you land if you press the A combo you will do the horizontal combo instead of the shield bash
Hi Arekkz, what armor set are you wearing in the video. Sorry new to the game.
The game looks awesome :o
lolno ???
i was gonna get this game and the new 2ds xl in a couple of months.. but if nobody plays it anymore, maybe i will wait for when xx comes to handheld..
I´m still playing it
still a lot of people playing :)
Please would you kindly make Switch Axe and Charge Blade weapon tutorials next. I love those weapons in MH4U but somehow not going too smoothly with the skills, abilities and style/art in MHX
I have gotten waaaaay too used to Aerial. Starting out with Stamina Oil, 2 jump attacks getting them down and then KO them is too darn good. I think I will give the other mode you suggest a try later though.
My favorite hunting style for SnSis striker or bushido. They just seem so cool and useful. #MHXforthewest
PLZ DO INSECT GLAIVE NEXT I mained it in mh4 and now since there is Airial style I wanna c the changes they made to keep up with the other weapons
We have a new contender for KO King.
that armor makes you look like a ninja
Greatsword next!!! PLZ!!!
Really torn between SnS and the Bow =/ Never used either of them before, but they both seem awesome in this game
What armour is that? Looks really cool.
Personally I'd be stuck between Guild and Striker style cause I do use that pull back attack often.
I wish I could play this.
I think your opinion on the comparative worth of each style revolves a little too much around whether you have access to that one particular A-button combo.. that seems like a subjective matter, since there's more to SnS than just mashing A, but wow you are 100% right about Guild vs Striker; I use the backhop move a lot in 4U, but I'd still replace it with a third Art (and gaining charge if I'm hit) any day of the week. Hopefully the devs will balance that out in a future patch, or for MHXU?
P.S. can SnS or other weapons in Aerial style ever combo *into* the jump move? I only ever see people do it from idle, and not follow up the attack in any way except for running back around to jump again. It's giving me a boring impression of the Aerial style, which I was previously looking forward to. :/
did they take that blade dance thing out, because i dont see it in the list
What is that amazing armor with the scarfs
And dual swords next if you can
Is there mounting damage when you use bushido counter?
I am so sad for the changes to the sns for the bushido style. I love the concept of the style, but the loss of that combo path is too big a loss to ignore. However, I actually do like the charge attack, so I probably would switch between guild and striker.
Nice and Arms Day
what swords and shield is that also the armor set ty like the video
anyone know what weapon he's using right now? also anyone have suggestion what sns to use for HR?
Shield and Sword Tutorial pls!!11 its a hard weopon
Striker style is like playing older monster Hunter games since the sword and shield didnt have a charge attack in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation versions.
can someone tell me when is the U.S version of this is coming out
how to use 'back hop' adept style? i have try many time but dont work. you say press B to 'back hop' but when i press B its dodge like normal adept style.
Back hop is consider as an evade too(that mean it got invulnerable for a short of time) to use what you ask is to successful evade any incoming attack while you use that back hob
Can you target enemies?
