  • I've been wanting to do this mod for years! I'm happy to say I've finally completed it. This won't be for everyone but I personally think this is the best OEM+ mod you can do to any Subaru!

I've been looking at doing this mod. I know this is an old video. Any suggestions on someone who doesnt have an old harness? It wasnt overly clear watching the video twice, did you hook it up to an add a fuse or what about just splicing into the headlight harness? I'm thinking I am going to buy two replamcent badges to do this on my BRZ. I was going to buy the emblem like you did but man that is so cheap quality. glad you shed light on how bad the quality is. now I just need to figure out the backlighting without spending 200 bucks on LED badge I will tear apart.

The harness i tapped into went to the jdm fog bezels. You can likely tap into your headlights. The aftermarket emblems are horrible, never liked them! I got my emblem from the dealership, not very cheap!

I love the OEM badges...people are way, way too hung up on overlay this, overlay that. There's a damn overlay for everything. Ugh.
I came across this video through careful word/image searching, and it is precisely the style I've had in my mind for over 10 years. Planned on doing it to my last two cars but fell low on the to do list. I have a VB WRX and similarly, I just want to get - this - done! Thanks for showing how to get the edges of the stars cleared for the light to glow through. As soon as you opened the badge and I was reminded what it looks like from behind it was an "ah-hah!" moment.
Big difference for me is I will be trying EL panel/paper for the glow. Easier just to Google it, but some are very thin, can be trimmed with scissors into perfect shapes such as the oval. The only question will be if it is bright enough. Certain EL products are brighter than others. If I make a front badge (like this) work out, I may do the rear badge with red EL to match red rear lighting. I have an extra front badge in amongst all my parts...so I could begin a test run soon. Thanks for the video - gives me confidence the concept can be done and looks fantastic.

Can't beat the OEM emblem! I was never a fan of the aftermarket ones. I see what you mean about the EL pannel, let me know how it works out! I know the VB has an OEM lit up emblem, but its the entire emblem, not just the silhouette. Either way good luck!

I wonder if someone could use a red and black emblem so that during the day it will look the same as at night, like if you wanted to do a red LED.

Im not sure if the aftermarket emblems are clear plastic with paint inside of them. Otherwise that would work. Could always use an OEM emblem and paint it, which a lot of people do.
The place where i bought the white LED emblem from also has a blue and red version.

I feel for that same one. It was trash. How much you charge to make me one?

Unfortunately I don't have the time to make one. Thats why I shared the process online for people to give it a try, sorry.
