  • In this video we'll be making an insanely bright water-cooled LED light that looks remarkably similar to sunlight!
    This is because it uses a high quality LED from Yuji which as a high colour rendering index (CRI). Since its completion this project has been used to light every single one of my videos! It's just that good!

    If anyone wondering, there is pre-applied thermal paste on the coldplate between the LED and itself. You should always use some heat conductive paste when cooling transistors, leds, microchip IHSs or microchip dyes.

    any way to have an alarm go off if the pump or fan fail? Only reason that I ask is if I am going to spend that much on an LED I want an extra layer of security

    • @jnevercast
      @jnevercast 7 лет назад

      Perhaps a thermal cutoff. You'd have to put a metal bracket between the contact pads of the cooler and the LED. I'd suggest a block of scrap copper. Put a thermal cutoff mounted to the side. Check the temperature it cuts off at and ensure there is heatsink paste between all 3 surfaces; cooler, led, cutoff. Then run the power wire through the cutoff and then to the LED.
      If the copper plate gets too hot the cutoff will stop providing power to the LED. Saving your expensive light.

    Having your pump above the radiator is problematic

    • @Kukimuncher

      Im planning to build one of these. What problems may occur if the pump is above the radiator?

    • @ThaSandwitch
      @ThaSandwitch 4 месяца назад +2

      @@Kukimuncher Basically causes the pump to make noise and wear out faster because the air pocket is now in the pump instead of the radiator where it's meant to be

    Every so often I almost forget about your channel and then you come back with an amazing quality video that I love to watch. It would be really cool to see you working with a company to get some of the products you have made and use them as prototypes to develop them into products we could buy.
    I know it would lose some of that DIY slightly less refined feel to some of your products but it would be amazing to be able to use some of these things you make

    $250 for a light like this is still really cheap people.

      Can be much cheaper by using a cheaper watercooler, a led doesnt need a 120 usd cooler made for a 600w gaming rig

      For quality lights for video work of similar light output, these are actually very cheap. And if you don't care about CRI (the quality of light and why these LED's are more expensive) and just want a bright flashlight, get the 5$ LED chips off ebay and cut the price of this project in half.

    I did it! I finally did it! I made this light albeit with some modifications like a light stand mount and a bowens mount for light modifiers but I finished it! It's 5:15am right now and I couldn't wait to finish it! Holy crap I can't wait to use this thing!
