1000w equiv. Watercooled LED (DIY SUN BLASTER 2.0)

- In this video we'll be making an insanely bright water-cooled LED light that looks remarkably similar to sunlight!
This is because it uses a high quality LED from Yuji which as a high colour rendering index (CRI). Since its completion this project has been used to light every single one of my videos! It's just that good!

I love this videos regardless I don't build anything, but they're quite pleasant to watch.
That is not a pro gamer move.....
You remind me of an English Kip Kay lol
The intonation, the style of narration and calm soothing delivery.
Kip Kay's legacy is in good hands!
Your videos are so cool, man.
not just cool... watercooled
Hi
Ouch
Hi ozzy
it is always a pleasure to watch your videos. thanks!!!
The level of details for this build is amazing ! Nice work.
Although more expensive, you made it look a lot better. Keep up the good work.
These videos are really incredible, I don't know any other DIY/build youtuber that is this thorough and clear in their instructions,
and international purchase links? Really top notch.
Just stumbled across these videos and as a recent graduate of film and television production who is now struggling to enter into the industry these videos are actually amazing, such a life saver, thank you so much! Keep em coming! :)
Wow, that is really looking like sunlight. Amazing! Thanks for this tutorial, I'm going to build one for myself.
i love your user name!
Birds are dinosaurs. Google it.
:?
+Shoulders of Giants birds are birds, dinosaurs are dinosaurs. Completely unrelated
+Jono6671 but dinosaurs are related to chickens, and chickens are birds.
Your videos prove that watching plugs go into holes filmed at close range is inherently satisfying...
wait a minute
Wow! The production quality keeps getting better with every video. Love the cinematics!
Glad to see your channel growing. It's really refreshing to see good people making awesome content both in substance and aesthetics.
I will never build something so complex but love watching this project
Great designers & inventors - keep up the great work!
I've always liked your videos due to the quality of the explanation and clarity of both audio and video. I noticed you don't update as often as other channels, but when you do, it's always a master piece. Quality over quantity! Good job!
This is so amazing! Thank you so much for doing such an amazing, really professional quality DIY video. I love the links to the exact components to buy in the description too. You are THE MAN.
Excellent video! Superb light output with the reflector & lens. You forgot to add the link to the lens in the video description area. I just used a 100W LED for a project not on YT. The same generic one you show which includes a really nice aluminum enclosed 20-40V driver for under $12.
ye
I'm absolutely adding this to my "I'm gonna build the hell out of this some day " list!" :D
I've been watching RUclips for about 10 years.
This is the best video on RUclips yet, in every single aspect.
Editing is great
Sound is great
Camera is great
Lighting is great 😉
I really enjoy your videos
The work you put into your projects and the quality of your videos is absolutely mindboggling! Just so you know, I will be subscribed for life.
If anyone wondering, there is pre-applied thermal paste on the coldplate between the LED and itself. You should always use some heat conductive paste when cooling transistors, leds, microchip IHSs or microchip dyes.
you should make these into kits and sell it with a dvd
Or a RUclips link QR code
+-potato no- pretty much everyone who has a smartphone? NFC tag would be better.
Bartosz Olszewski Well, not everyone have smartphone with NFC, so yeah...
this is a fucking genius entrepreneur idea, I love the way you thought of this!
most phones that dont have NFC are bad at reading QR codes anyway
This video must have been a ton of work. Thanks so much for doing it! I'm really tempted to build one of these.
The only RUclipsr who can make me swoon, both geekily and aurally!
Thanks for another fab build! You're an inspiration! :-)
I think Corsair could have sponsor instead. Amazing work as always !!
Yes, they should. I have their H100i AIO and never thought about how it could be used for something like this.
a very great thing! well done :) you get a like and sub!
You like seriously have the best DIY channel out there...
10/10 Camera work and post production, audio is flawless aswell, let alone the explanation that can't be any better.
Keep it up! :D
I was even into doing a water cooled version of his previous sun blaster but I liked it the way he set the power circuits here better, keep up the good work!
As a lighting freak, this makes me very happy indeed. Will be making this for sure.
Just to be picky, could you do a comprehensive parts list and put it in the description? For example, the reflector is missing! Thanks!
wow u get the stuff for free already...
The problem I found after 2 solid years is the fan runs very slow when you plug 11.1v lipo and turning the fan step down dial doesn't do anything
Parts ordered. I built your flexible LED panel (struggled a lot with that but I got it working last week for a shoot). Looking forward to trying this one out.
Really appreciate all the work you put into your videos, thanks!
I really can't see why anyone would dislike this. Great job!!
Love all the videos. Total newbie and would like to ask where do you get your aluminium sheets , what thickness and size do you buy.
He can build a batman signal light with that :-)
epSos.de truee xD
Check NighthawkInLight. It became reality now xD
I found your channel a few months back and I'm liking what I see keep up the great work
Impressive work, yesterday I was asking myself "Did he stop making new DIY projects?" .... and here you are, don't stop man.
_"They're quite expensive"_
Me: Nah, might buy one or two
**checks the website **
F* that Sh*
Be ready to spend around 250 bucks or even more.
the LED is just $83,50... or are you talking about the whole project?
Both. Just 83,50! sorry for being poor.
By that I mean I need those 80 bucks for my gaming.
Ha my exact thoughts. 😂
I'm not saying that it's cheap, but you do get a high quality product at an appropriate price... also you probably aren't the target demographic.
It would be great if it is just $83,50. Add $25 for shipping, and 25% tax in my country plus expenses for local expedited office/customs at about $25, and you end up with $160 for something that is "just $83,50"!
wow, your clip is actually on their site!
yuji
It seems like we'll see a video about a high power and high CRI LED light in the future.
But he isn't a US citisen, is he?
that won´t stop someone in the US from trying to sue him, yuji, or both
It's sponsored:
Link to the Led says "campaign=DIYPerks"
RIP
A wonderfully complete tutorial for a great project. Thanks for this!
Amazing production value matt !! Getting better and better with each video
Damn, I was waiting for him to CNC the custom bracket out of metal :/
That would have been cool
Isn't it cooler doing it by hand? That way anyone can make it.
+DIY Perks do you want to make a camera jib
+DIY Perks It sure is better. I was genuinely surprised when I found out those plates weren't metal! that was an awesome build, thanks a lot
This is supposed to be a DIY channel. How many people, do you think, have CNC machines?
+DIY Perks ya it is..!!
Have you ever considered building a smart mirror? I'd love to see your take on it.
It turned out so good, good suggestion
One of the best channels for DYI. Love your videos man, your editing, and of course your voice! Keep Going :)
This is amazing, you always get me motivated to build stuff! Keep it up Matt!!
You work hard in your videos, not like gaming channels
Amen
nice cut 1:57
I watched this video three times now, and I'm pretty confident I could build the custom frame
Your creations are amazing! Very detailed video and easy to follow the different steps.
That AIO is gonna die really fast in that configuration. Air bubbles will rise to the pump from the resovoirs in the radiator ends, causing it to burn out
JayzTwoCents
i love your video's why don't you upload more often?
You love them because he doesn't upload that often ;)
if you look at the quality then you should atleast imagine how long it takes on planning, filming, experimenting with designs, if something goes wrong you do it again, and then editing. plus personal life.
Think he does other work on the side. Freelance photography, audio recordings and that.
Ahhh, i love hearing a little bit of common sense.
+ADOBEFXPRO i know right
I was just thinking about when you're going to upload a new video, and here it is, yay!
Probably the best video I ever seen on youtube, well explain and detail, Thanks for posting such a good video.
Cheers!
I love this, but I am struggling with some of the parts. For instance "These goosenecks have a fairly uncommon thread, so we'll need a convertor to a standard 1/4 UNC"
I'm probably novicing this up, but would it be possible to have a comprehensive parts list? The links for components are really great, while happy to deviate slightly from your design slightly, I for one would find this a massive help.
Love your videos!
Build a few of these in a row and there you go, grow lights :)
Extremely more expensive than necessary for grow lights.
+Bradley0beaver not as efficient or cheap to run though
+Bradley0beaver that's why this isn't a grow light, it's just a really bright cool flashlight of sorts.
Almost thought you were that Geometry Dash guy
+Miles Aurbeck Go take a peak at GrowMau5, Realstyles growing, ChilLed DIY, Greengenes. DIY led is affordable and efficient more so than HPS almost except for DE but we are getting close. This is a bad example of a grow light DIY style. Very excellent light and concept though. LED is the future
Awesome! Love the style of your videos, you really work hard to make sure we can follow every step and think of the smallest details (like having the 10cm measure on the print out, how clever!) Yuji should give you 100 of these as now I wouldn't want to buy a LED from anyone else lol.
I just loved to see this in my notifications!
any chance of a diy steadycam coming soon?
+Joe M that's I already contacted Matt through that maker app he sponsored, and he said it's in the plans (he actually started this channel with the idea if making a steady cam). true there are a lot of steady cam day tutorials but most of them are nothing more than a glorified weighted handle. And after watching Matt's camera slider I'm really interested to see what he makes next for camera works
+Joe M agreed m8
A 3 axis gimbal would be even more awesome! Matt definitely knows his stuff!
What I'm really looking for is ho to build a brush-less gimbal. There's not a whole lot of resources on how to build one, even though lots of people do it
+javalin597 Yeah I have seen a few diy gimbals, but they have all been a bit sketchy. Matt would make a very clear and informative video if he did make one, could see it being very popular
gonna use this light on my cannabis plants!
nice idea
+TheMichalos lmao
If you really want to do this it wont Work.
PM me if you want me to explain.
+EradWir it will work if you'd use a purple grow led instead of the plain white one
You're so talented, sir. Your projects are amazing and inspirational :)
Just about everything this guy does is within my grasp lol very inspiring! Got me looking all over the place for parts and tools 😅😂
any way to have an alarm go off if the pump or fan fail? Only reason that I ask is if I am going to spend that much on an LED I want an extra layer of security
Perhaps a thermal cutoff. You'd have to put a metal bracket between the contact pads of the cooler and the LED. I'd suggest a block of scrap copper. Put a thermal cutoff mounted to the side. Check the temperature it cuts off at and ensure there is heatsink paste between all 3 surfaces; cooler, led, cutoff. Then run the power wire through the cutoff and then to the LED.
If the copper plate gets too hot the cutoff will stop providing power to the LED. Saving your expensive light.
did you follow the link ? This led can cost as little as $6 USD. Buy a few, overdive them and have fun. I was using one a bike light @ 120w continuous, 300-400w short bursts, great for sketchy night trails. Then again, I did burn a couple out also.
What kind of power sauce to you prefer? I personally prefer Franks. I put that shit on everything.
HP all the way bro.
DIY Perks OMG! HE REPLIED!
I'm ashamed at how loudly this joke made me laugh
The quality of your videos is amazing. You deserve more views and subs.
Great DIY video.Looks like a very polished lighting tool. Keep up the good work.
Does anyone have a quick comment on how to adjust the little voltage regulator to output 12 volts? Also, does anyone know the pin out for the pump? Those are my last two pieces to complete my build. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I need the same info, but looking through the thread it seems Matt stopped responding long ago.
I did see he gives the pin out for the pump at 12:08 and I did find the Fan pin out doing some google searches but I need to verify the info before I start cutting. I'm looking online to find anyone using the voltage regulator to output a certain voltage and there are a few, but I'm not seeing what should be the input value.
That is the pinout for the pump. The fan has 4 wires and has a different way to wire so that it doesn't go crazy fast. That pinout never got put into the description.
You turn the screw on the blue potentiometer until it shows 12v on your multimeter
“Cuts wire to led...”
My reaction: WtF!!!, WtF!!!
Great project Matt :) I always leave your videos thinking I need to learn a lot more about electronics!
i always like your videos because of the extreme quality that you provide
Screw that! How much do you want for it?
Pretty sure he wouldn't wanna sell it, since he actually uses it during production. :p
+2007excalibur2007 I know man, I was joking about how complicated the process is
+potato no Potato... No.
Having your pump above the radiator is problematic
Im planning to build one of these. What problems may occur if the pump is above the radiator?
@@Kukimuncher Basically causes the pump to make noise and wear out faster because the air pocket is now in the pump instead of the radiator where it's meant to be
@@ThaSandwitch thanks for the reply!
@@ThaSandwitchi know this is a reaction to all those videos from gamernexus etc but the effect is pretty much negligible.
Every so often I almost forget about your channel and then you come back with an amazing quality video that I love to watch. It would be really cool to see you working with a company to get some of the products you have made and use them as prototypes to develop them into products we could buy.
I know it would lose some of that DIY slightly less refined feel to some of your products but it would be amazing to be able to use some of these things you make
I really liked your cinematography man! Great work! The intro b roll was epic.
$250 for a light like this is still really cheap people.
Can be much cheaper by using a cheaper watercooler, a led doesnt need a 120 usd cooler made for a 600w gaming rig
2019 anyone?
That's pretty clever, and very detailed build. Thanks for sharing it! :-)
That's one hell of a bright idea!
So has anyone else actually made this?
No
Nah 160$ for two LEDs is just too much.
For quality lights for video work of similar light output, these are actually very cheap. And if you don't care about CRI (the quality of light and why these LED's are more expensive) and just want a bright flashlight, get the 5$ LED chips off ebay and cut the price of this project in half.
I'll do it just for fun but I don't remember anything about electronics from college, I'll have to figure things about again. Did you do it ?
I just did.
83.50$ for LED...not for my wallet.
Great job. It was worth the wait. I always enjoy your videos.
I did it! I finally did it! I made this light albeit with some modifications like a light stand mount and a bowens mount for light modifiers but I finished it! It's 5:15am right now and I couldn't wait to finish it! Holy crap I can't wait to use this thing!
Love the intro! Very cinematic!
Keep up the good work!
you are awesome. Every video from you is jaw dropping.
Cheers!
Little bit busy, I'll watch later. Thanks for these videos!!
I love your videos. They are so much fun to watch- and so motivational.
You are an artist!! I love your work
Yuji Yuji Yuji! Support this guy and his awesome projects! :-)
Really liked the frame construction!
You have a fantastic channel. Keep up the quality videos
As usual another great video!! keep em coming!
I love the way you film everything keep it up!
your videos never disappoint. great job man!
I like your Videos that much!!! This are the BEST DIY Videos on RUclips. An the Video quality is near to highend
i have no intention in making these things, but i just love watching ur videos all the way through.
really enjoy watching your diy videos, I give a thumbs up every time
that's a fantastic clean and very pro build ...great stuff...
Excellent work, man! Your video and build are quite professional. I enjoyed them and I will most likely try a similar build with the 500W LED.
Wow that's an awesome project. Thanks you.... I always learn from your videos
wow this is built perfect ! very nice project indeed
I don't care much for the LED light, but I really like how you did the video about making it. That's some great lighting, camera work, editing, and commentary. Big thumbs up! Pleasure to watch.
This light looking very good!
