I had it for 3 years and it was great. The camera ist still very good today compared to some modern devices. Yes, they had great ideas or plans for it but couldn´t manage to finish it.
App developers didnt like that the user had control of their information. With Android and Apple, you have little to no control over what they have access to, even when you are told you have turned something off, it has been shown that it isn't actualy off.
Defies logic why Microsoft closed the phone department. They had a dream team in terms of cameras software and design, and beloved recognisable brands (Nokia Lumia). Okay they lost the OS wars, but they could carry on making great Android phones earning more money in the process and having a much needed foothold in the smartphone market for other things like gaming and AI...
MS is technically still making Android phones or did so until very recently. It is not going very well. But they are cooperating with Samsung to promote their cloud services which is what makes MS the most money anyway
@@Schaelpy Microsoft only made the unattractive dual screen devices with crappy cameras cold Duo and Duo 2. Not exactly worthy successors to the iconic Lumia lineup. Google and Samsung have cloud services but they have their own phones.
All depends on the management decisions. They might have to think a lot. MS phones didn't make money as they thought. So they simply shut it down. They couldn't fail the whole empire on a new market. Lumia was a good one , but time was wrong and that not enough to fight back with android and apple.
Had been using windows phones from 2013 to 2017-2018 and really loved them. First of all, at that time low-end android phones were laggy, iphone was expensive and only WP phones ran well with 512mb RAM. I bought one, replaced it with Lumia 640DS later and still have warm memories even now (and the phone itself somewhere at home). Smooth, bright, with decent camera, Windows 10 mobile updates. OS design is just great, it's clean and distinctive, it's handy and feels modern even now. On the other hand, unfortunately, stagnation took a place... While the rest brands on the market were introducing more and more of new features my phone just refused to progress. At the beginning it wasn't too much noticeable, apps just were not getting visual updates but still utilizing more WP-branded design. I was fine with that since liked visuals, however there was a new issue - brands didn't want to support their apps and one day my bank's app was just shut down. I had no more choice, just switched to android. Thanks for the great years, MS
I still have 2 of them, the Lumia 520 and the 430, i loved it at the time I used, but the lack of apps was terrible. I didn't really used W10 Mobile, but my experience with the 8 and 8.1 was great. Even being standard phones, everything ran smoothly.
I still have my Lumia 920 loaded with videos and pictures. I loved that phone. I had a 950xl right as they were phasing them out and it was great too. I got rid of it and got the iPhone 6s I still have it too as I never traded any of my phones it for another I would absolutely love it if windows started back up
This video brings up some accurate issues that plagued Windows Phone but also highlights some of the best features of it. I have probably about 15 old phones of mine and family members stored away, including a 1020 and both 950s. I liked my 950 XL but it was truly the most ininsipiring Lumia ever released. It hsd no real appeal outside of not running Android or iOS. I used mine until it for as long as I could though. With how they handled the Duo, it still doesn't seem like they've truly committed to a mobile communication device regardless of what OS it's running. A real shame.
i had it from the beginning all the way to the Lumia 950xl, i even changed phone carriers because Sprint didn't carry anymore, and had to switch to ATT. i didn't want to let go, but it was so glitchy, and lacked so many apps, as you mentioned. i'm 100% with you! i miss the windows phone! hope they come back soon! with the live tiles!!! i have a samsung now, F iOS! i would drop it in a heartbeat for a windows phone!
Imagine with the the transition of win11 to arm versions being able to have a windows phone optimized for a snapdragon, id go for it! Imagine playing some old 2015 games on it (wich is prooven to run on the 8th gen)... Like having programs that could run on it with the proper ui
Android phones would be the worst option for Microsoft. Windows-powered smartphones are the best and the reasons why are things like software development, better technology, video games and Windows kernel which is perfect and high-speed.
For me this was the best phone I ever owned. Amazing camera, fast, looked amazing and personally did not have any of the os issues. The app side was again not a problem for me as at the time Appa I used were available in banking, I used edge instead of chrome anyway, as well as office, zune pass was ahead of Spotify at the time too. Adding contunmum to the mix although was not a full desktop os worked well for the time and I even worked from home with it where ide use the RDC app to connect to my work pc. For me this was so far ahead of other phones if Microsoft had carried on pushing the os and brought the app developers to the table it could have done well. Each to their own though for me has still been the best phone I've owned.
I loved my Nokia Lumia, even though I'm usually an Apple aficionado. I absolutely adored the look and feel of the live tiles (ahead of its time), something I wish Apple would integrate as I find the icons grid on iOS and Android very outdated. And the camera! Don't get me started on the superb quality of the camera! The lifelike colours, the crispness, ...
That 20mp camera is fantastic to this day. Computational strength is lacking clearly but in the right lighting this camera still beats out majority of newer phones. And the manual control interface is unparalleled to this day. Pairing the 4 second shutter speed option with a tripod and ISO settings and you’re looking at some of the crispiest, most natural looking night shots you’ll ever see from a phone. Shame that they shut this division down. I can’t even imagine this sensor+glass paired with modern computation..
Thanks for the comment! I had a lot of fun experimenting with that long exposure. There was also a photo timelapse mode while having the ability for long exposure, so I could capture some interesting car light trails timelapses
For your next content I suggest exploring HTC and LG. They were actively pushing technologies that are common today but sadly they can't survive against cheaper phones from China. Just subscribed. Hope your channel grows 👍
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I've already talked a lot about Windows Phone and wanted to move on to other phones but didn't really know which ones.
I have two Lumia 520, one was bricked and other has issue with touch panel. Recently I bought second hand Lumia 540 dual SIM. I updated it to windows 10 mobile by otc updater. Windows Phone Lumias was amazing. I wish it come back. 😢
The only way is to buy 50% of Microsoft and Windows shares and then create the product name Ecosystem Lumia , starting from Lumia phone, Lumia Tab, Lumia Audio, Lumia PC, Lumia TV, And working with smartphones that have been submerged have different systems, for example the previous BlackBerry developers brought it back to create Windows Phone OS and BlackBerry OS To be renewed.
i still have a microsoft windows phone i love them i now have a iphone still think windows is far better i heard nokia are bringing windows phone back this year 2024
it failed because of app support once windows of arm become mainstream with aaa games & lot more apps im sure it can make a comeback its like apple is trying to do with their ecosystem
That flash feature is amazing!! Why can't Android implement that?? And yes, I still have my old Lumia phone... Makes me cry every time thinking about the death of Nokia phones.. 🥲

Damn, loved that system and interface. Lack of apps was a problem but the rest was great. Level of customization was on another level

if you still want to mimic windows phone, there are plenty of launchers on the play store that make it look like windows phone.

this phone has a better camera than my samsung a21s + it looks better than samsung galaxy A8 and iphone 6s which were also released in 2015

I had a lumia 1020 one day I woke up to a black screen never was able to fix again
Wow that really sucks
I wish they come back. Im tired of android and ios
I wanted a windows phone but when I saw lack of app support that’s what stopped me
950xl camera was better then any phone I used since then.

They're straight up dumb for not succeeding with such a great phone... This could've been a proper begging of Windows on arm also

I had the 930 ❤
I mean if they tried now they coulda put an android subsystem in only problem with that is the phone might have to be beefy
I still own a Lumia 830 (Win10 RS3) and 1020 (windows 8.1) and they are still working great
i had the HTC that was amazing for sound, the speaker was awesome, no phone i ever had could match it. but the camera was crap.

I really wish they would bring back the Lumia phones. They will forever remain the best
Literally had to start using square home launcher on my android to bring back the Lumia feel
Thats cool! I tried them as well but they cant really match the lumia fully I feel like
Still having lumia 950. Which useful apps can be downloaded from the Microsoft store?
I have no idea since I mostly used the apps that were already installed.
They should give original pc windows on mobile
Microsoft miss a gigantic opportunity not going mobile.
No doubt at that time Lumia cameras were best ❤ but lagged and took more time to process
hi, where do you buy this phone (Lumia 950 XL)?
You can't anymore. You have to buy them used

It could've been a portable PC
iOS is very similar to Windows Phone with it's widgets. They are the same size and work the same way.
Even 10 years later you can't really compare. Android already had widgets back then, but implementation is still lacking today
I still have 1020 but battery is wrecked
