    the top deeper drawer by convention is for sockets and are usually stored standing up with all your extensions and ratchets. and the shallow just below is for all the wrenches. again thats the convention for most big tool boxes. and no im not a mechanic, just a guy at home who like his tools and garage organized. i have the 56'' US General series 2 box. I so want the series 3 box thats about to be release to the public. now jsut to convice the wife lol

      Emily wanted to plug her brother 3D printing. He’s been very helpful getting the tool box organized.
      This is one of the projects that they are working on.

    Setting them into the base grid is the best part! A green base would look good in there too 😉

    They make magnetic labels with the tool pictured in it for easy identification however over time you will know by heart where things are.

    You are printing gridfinity bins ... but do not use the grids ?

  • @CommanDOH-JKU
    @CommanDOH-JKU 6 месяцев назад

    You can organize however you like, but 99% of the time, the top drawer is meant for Sockets, and the second drawer is meant for Wrenches. Sockets, when organized well are typically standing on end, and any deep well sockets will not be able to stand up in the second drawer down due to the height. But like I said, to each their own...
    I do like the idea of the Gridfinity system though...

    I’d be curious to know the cost of materials for the gridfinity stuff versus other organization options from harbor freight.

      Hi Spartacus... This is Emily (the girl in the video) I will have my brother help answer your cost question as he is the one that printed them out for me. He has also been making different organizers for other Harbor Freight tool boxes and storage bins. I will have a video soon on my Vulcan welding cart and what we have done to organize that better as well. 🙂As you can see I am a big Harbor Freight and DeWalt fan. What are your favorite organizers from HF? I use to have several of the US General drawer organizers in our old tool box.

      @woodspepperman9344 Год назад +5

      Spartacus, Thanks for the question. This is Emily’s brother, I 3d printed all the Neon Green organization she used in this video. The short answer to your question is “just under $54 in plastic.” I looked through my notes and I used 1.9 kilograms of material at about $28 for a 1 kilo roll. ($28 dollars includes the filament, tax, and shipping.) This cost estimate is the entire batch of stuff that I printed for her. There is not really a single shot in the video that captures the entire print run. For example, you can notice that she had some organizers in the Dremel drawer and some with the sockets.
      The long answer involves printer cost, electricity rates, FDM 3d printing learning curves, .STL file creation/locating, and machine run time. For example, the “Metric Deep Socket” tray she loads with sockets in the video at 3:45 is about $3.38 of filament (raw plastic). However, by the time I calculate electricity, run time, printer consumables, and my time. I would need to commercially sell this part for around $22.

      @@EmilyPepperman harbor freight organizers… not many now actually. I use their Bauer packouts for some specific bolt assortments, they’re pretty good. I think there’s 2 drawer organizers and a pliers rack in use around the garage. I spent so much on organizing, tried several different options and brands from OEM Tools, Olsa Tools, Mechanics Time Savers, etc. I’ve actually settled on Ernst for sockets and pliers and Toolbox widgets for my wrenches.

      @@woodspepperman9344 That’s an incredibly detailed breakdown, Thank you for taking the time to do that! I was excited when I saw just less then $54 in materials then the further breakdown leading up to $22 retail for the one unit you described tied it all together for me. I must’ve spent close to $800 on my organization endeavors for my toolbox. I’d really be interested to see what you come up with for wrenches, did you have plans to commercially offer gridfinity?

      @@MrSpartanicus, We would love to help you out with any 3D printed projects (including Gridfinity). We can assist in the location of currently available files or potentially modify and custom make organization products for you. I just placed an order today for some filament to (more closely) match the Harbor Freight 20 bin storage organizers. I have designed a few products to help organize those as well. Let us know what you are looking for (other than the previously mentioned wrenches) and we are happy to help. Look out for Emily's Volcan Welding Cart review and the organizers I have designed for that as well.

    That box must cost a fortune yet it does not have a grip latch system like Craftsman did i.e. retractable spring loaded hooks that allow you to open and close drawers with the least amount of effort. Apparently, this HF box has friction to keep the drawers closed. For the life of me, I just don't understand why tool box buyers have no regard for the grip latch, as if it was a difference that made no difference. There are endless yapping about tool boxes focusing on weight capacity, caster wheels, fancy colors, and sizes but no one says anything about one of the most important function of a tool box: it's capacity to open and close with ease. Anyway, I'll never buy a tool box without grip latch, even if I have to buy a used one.

    Do you have the .STL files for the socket organizers? I am wanting ones like that that lay down

    • @NostalgiaandChaos
      @NostalgiaandChaos 6 месяцев назад

      Hey! You can probably find them on thangs or thingiverse. I believe you'll find the most variety on thangs, since that's where the original creator of Gridfinity put his files up.
      If you don't have access to a 3D printer, you might be able to use one at a library.
