Now, I need to see people making gridfinity storage for the hexagonal racks, and ball tracks for gridfinity racks. Make his joke a self fulfilling prophecy.
And adapter plates
@@brycesnell6071 well yes, that goes without saying, how else will we store our board game other than with gridfinity?
@@curvingfyre6810 no, the other way around. Having the hex baseplate layung around is unused space, and by that not efficient. We NEED to put gridfinity on it to store gridfinite amounts of stuff on the unused plate
But what about hextraction gridfinity pieces?
@@SWnAZ if your ball rolls off to the side its organized and never found again
This man developed an entire board game for April Fool's... I love the dedication to the bit.
There was also FL Studio who built an arcade cab version and posted the trailer on April 1st.
@@MrSonny6155 yh but image line have like 50+ employees, he's just 1 man
aren't they just Gravitrax tiles ?
Took me a while
@@MassisPipes My little brother got those for christmas, yeah it's the same
I was so confused for the first half of this video wondering why you hadn't shown a single bit of organization with your organization system yet. Fantastic.
Yeah, and the obvious tracks had me wondering if they would let parts move around, but then, how would that help organizations?
Why do I see you everywhere
@@fauscsk_9099 I'm freaking magic. Or we have good taste.
it took me until he said he was ditching the magnets
I thought the notch was a choice, wouldn't more orientation be better? but what ever
the magnets though made me check the description as I hear him say he's ditching open source lol
As an elementary STEM teacher with a couple 3D printers, this is a game changer. Could even have the students design their own tiles!
he just made Gravitrax duh? :D
A game changer 😏
Those flip flop tiles could be turned into binary counters too
@@AMTunLimited Oh man.... physical analog gravity powered circuits?? That could be legit useful for teaching binary logic
"And me, Sam Reich. I've been here the whole time!"
Hexagons are indeed the bestagons.
Yes, the hexagons are the structure that most cover the majority of surfaces, the 6 it's a great number

That's literally exactly what I said as well
Yes yes yes
What i love about this, is that this could have been released on any other day of the year and i would simply take it as a fact, Zack is the quirky and funny guy after all
One year later and it still got me
Seriously panicked about the fragmentation this would cause. Well played.
I literally just started printing gridfinity a week ago, so... same here.
Dammit it ive been bamboozled!
Played hehe. Like a game? Get it? Cause it's a-
Took my until 7 mins in
I mean it's not that hard to print an adapter from square to bestagon, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that at all. Or just dick around with boolean mesh modifiers a bit and you can convert pretty much anything you want if needed.
I can’t believe he was able to slip the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy into the video THAT smoothly 🤣 awesome book, great taste Zack!
The MEANING OF THE UNIVERSE
Hexagons truly are the bestagons! Excited to see where this upgrade goes in the future!
It's like playing civilization in 3D printer

He kinda had me until this line hahah
@@rexjaguarius CGP Grey, hm.
I can't wait for the gridfinity 2.0 pro league. Like imagine 100T vs Fnatic hextraction grand finals with jerseys and everything. It only makes sense for the next big competitive multiplayer game
This is sick I was just about to go hardcore into gridfinity but 2.0 this is a treat
Lol
April fools tho...
I was pretty hyped for hexagon based gridfinity. If I didn't have a dozen other projects I've not been paying attention too, I'd design parts for it
Such an amazing upgrade! Time to re-print all of my original gridfinity parts!
Wooooooooo!
Didn’t even watch the video.

The fact that you allowed people to sell something you designed? While I have no intention to do that (I have a solid 9-5), that is just pure kindness that most content creators don't do. Good on you. That earned you a new subscriber - which doesn't mean much for a massive channel like yours.
To greedfinity and beyond!
Had a mini heart attack, started printing a scary amount of gridfinity boxes this week, thought I had lost them all.
Same happened to me ...
I used to make plaques with the names of my best customers. Of which I would mount on workbenches and special pieces of equipment in which their business helped me purchase. Cool idea to see it in your lab. It was always only a half-dozen or so....but folks who were fundamental in bringing me so much work that it helped me build my entire young adult life and two workshops back in the day. ( Back in the day was only like 15 years ago but you know what I mean)
The community is very festive this year, I appreciate it
Awesome work I did not realize how huge the community had become I will be checking this out for sure. Thank you so much for sharing this with the community, truly an amazing project.
Make sure you use the new Prusa hex filament to print this.
For the man who had to invent a grid just to hold his enormous balls, and then open sourced it in the hopes that one day we might grow our own.
The Open Source part is still April Fools, isn't it?
You and Void Star Lab are pretty awesome. that would fit right onto my cluttered desk
Embigened! lol the noble spirit
finally the Sequel we all were waiting for, also Brooke throwing the pillows was hilarious
... can't wait for the Hextraction Gridfinity accessories
it's almost 5am on a saturday (sunday now, I guess) abd Zack Freedman just released a new video. Life couldn't get any better
Ahh another German with taste 😂
Zach, You were the only Fools Day prank/awesomeness that got me this year! Primarily seeing that I am now 4 weeks of printing into my Gridfinity adventure with 1.0...
I am so relieved and excited to start printing this as well!
Thank you for all that you do!
PRUSA should send you an XL and MK4 for review. There are so many RUclipsrs that cover 3D printing only. That being said, you are PROJECT oriented. This provides another perspective which is valuable to people who use printers as a manufacturing tool.
I have the give away your labor disease too. Part of it is gratitude for the models I've downloaded, part is pride, and a huge chunk is not valuing my time enough. Advice for all, don't let people take advantage of you because you're generous and agreeable. Especially if they're you're employer. Value your time and don't underestimate your abilities. Share what you like, but know what you're worth.
1:07 - Congrats Zack! This is one of my new favorite channels... and I don't even have a 3D printer
This is going to be just as big as the original, mark my words. There is nothing more addictive and classic than marbles in tunnels. This is the Mousetrap of the new millennium. I already have ideas for custom tiles and I haven't even seen all the default ones yet. This is maker chocolate. Well done. ^,.'.,^
Indeed, the only thing I worry about a little is the board is so planar and the hexagon are perhaps a little too small to get really creative with. Really needs a second and perhaps third layer just for fun, and the rules probably need to allow for some amount of 'special' tiles that are larger than the standard single hex so we can do more insane stuff with it!
@@foldionepapyrus3441 it's open source, go nuts and do it yourself!
@@josuelservin Very true - however while the initial idea is still a bit more in beta I think it better to hope the standard the Z is creating may be refined further rather with our good ideas in mind than create a fork that may well end up incompatible with the changes we know he is planning.
And as I currently lack a decent printer can't test some of the dafter ideas I've come up with yet anyway - magic smoke got everywhere and I've not got around to restoring it yet.
@@foldionepapyrus3441 What if we made placeholder hexagons you can swap out once the full set is placed? Alternatively you can design sets of them that do the insane thing together but apart are just broken. Doesn't change the rules since the balls will either get stuck or fall off either way. I like the idea of a layered board, then you can have funnels to the lower level.
@@glowpon3 Can also have catapult that hold a marble until the the trigger end is hit etc. I was thinking the best way for layers is just to have the start be liftable 3 or maybe 4 tiles higher than the base as needed. And perhaps with some empty shell tiles that can be played freely above/below the tile you just played as a spacer.
Got an idea for the game. Magnet tiles. 😈 if they're strong you can make the balls knock each other off too. Might interfere with other parts like the spinning ones but would that be more fun?
It is a good idea, a magnet could hold a ball that passes over it so it can then get knocked off by another ball. Or could curve the balls in unexpected ways.
"Hexagons are bestagons" Did i just hear a CGP Grey quote? Excellent!
you gotta print these new baseplates and modules with the new hexagonal filament from prusa
I know this was a joke video but holy hell it's still super well done. Great job Zack, and great to see you settling into your new place/studio!
Going to be honest, I seriously thought you were serious about all of this until the co-host asked where is the organization aspect of Gridfinity 2.0
Can't wait until people do mazes and contraptions using Hextraction, though! Like, those series of tubes and obstacles they make ball bearings run through? I bet they would look super cool with something like this!
The dialog is always spot on, thank you for the smirks, smiles and laughs you provide through your carefully crafted words
Will Hextraction be compatable with Gravitrax because it looks identical to it?
I am so very glad you're back up and making videos. I'm sorry you had a 3-D printed your ark before the flood, but I'm glad that you managed to come out the other in safely, with the two of every kind of filament.
Ugh, you really got me there, watching this "one day later", after having started to print Gridfinity stuff (and even publishing my own blocks) just last week. Hats off, Mr. Freedman.
PS: Hexagons = is that you, Josef Prusa?
You totally got me, I saw this on the 4th and didn't realize it was released on April Fool's. I was getting ready to download the baseplate model to start making a modular colored pencil cup system. I wondered why I had this nagging feeling that you weren't showing any cups...
This is how to do an april fool video. Fun. Self explanatory ("just a teaser"). By indroducing something new. And by showing off the power of gridfinity through the whole video.
Had not thought of the "literary reference"... I had not even realized these were 42mm. Just got into 3d printing, in big part thanks to the gridfinity system. Being a Douglas Adams fan only makes me want to print more of these elements.
new here but you’re a riot and i’m here for it. keep it up you cyborg
This is so awesome! 2 days ago I decided to reset my workshop so a complete purge was necessary.
I found Gridfinity yesterday and I'll be implementing that, then this popped up and I was so excited to see hexagons until well I should have looked at the date this was posted haha.
But it did cement the idea of "don't change what isn't broken" and "stick to what you decided on" in my head lol thank you for this haha
You're one of my favorites on the internet, and I don't even have a 3D printer.
That idea of using hexagons, was right behind you on the wall. Literally!
I love the Prusa shade 😂
Another great video, had me rolling!
The settlers community is going to love this
Love it. Thanks Zack!
Small suggestion, not a big deal, but a hex grid of 7 tiles across (4 on the on the edge) would have loose synergy with a couple other games. Like Isopath by Pocket 83. Tho your current grid has synergy with Catan. Which is probably a better option. Just thought I would mention it since this is something I've put research into while designing my own games.
This man is a gift to humanity
You know this is going to compel someone in creating a hexagonal version of Gridfinity now right? Because it actually seems like a neat idea, aside from working around when hexagons are cut in half and odd remainders crop up.
No, it would be a terrible idea for any real-world use. (i.e. storing non-hexagonal things in or on workspaces, containers and drawers that are rectangular).
All of the advantages of hexagons would either be irrelevant for a storage solution, or are negated by having individual containers, and not a connected grid of them.
The real version should have a point system mode. Where each player gets an exit track, and the winner is the one with most bearings in their specific collection track
Taking hextraction seriously - I think I'd vote for larger tiles to allow for more potential creativity with what people can fit into a tile :)
create ultra tiles that take up more slots, but you have to forgo a turn per extra tile space or something to get one
I'm so challenging my coworker the moment this fully drops. She just got a printer for Christmas and I wanna challenge her.
Hexagons are, in fact, the bestagons. Love to see CGP Grey represented
Your calling out Prusa's april fools tradition completely disarmed me and I thought there is no way this is an april fools thing. You had me.
Is Hextraction a nod to Gravitrax?
P.S. Please tell me you are, in fact, changing the Gridfinity license.
Im still 1000% going to print up some Hextraction tiles.... try and make my own would be cool too! Cant wait till Thursday! Biting the bullet and buying my first printer!!! ❤❤❤❤ keep up the great work
You know I'm probably going to end up just calling the game Gridfinity as a result of it being reinforced during most of the video. Helped by the brand recognition.
That seems like a nice mix. Ball parcour for kids, easy family game and maybe strategy game. Also we need a version with shot glasses for parties.
To further this prank, you should create some actual storage units the fit the hex grid.
I give it 12 hours before someone does this, unless it's already been done.
I can't believe you actually made competitive multiplayer
it took me halfway through the video to realize this was a joke :/
F*cking brilliant.
the joke, the ideas, the writing, delivery, everything
The most epic youtube intro still to date
It was most of the way into this before I realised how perfectly fitting the background decoration is
Thank you! I love your tongue-twisting script and your brilliant designs!
Oh crap, I didn't know the MK4 was out! Sweet!
Ok. I am 5 minutes into your video and I had to pause, subscribe, and comment. I love your humor and so far love 2.0. Keep crushing it and now I will go back to the rest of the video that I will no doubt enjoy. I look forward to organizing myself now that you stop the 42 BS and figured out the 0 and 5 deal 😂.
This was thoroughly entertaining… I will be printing all of this. Thank u for keeping parts free and open source for beta!
For the first bit I thought it was serious and was worried about fragmentation, but then I realized right before you revealed it that it was April 1st.
Oh damn 😱 this looks like a mechanical Boolean-logic machine 🔥
"hexagons are the bestagons" is just so genius and funny, what a savant! He's one of the most original, smartest and most creative people alive, how has he not become fabulously wealthy?
5:19 "Gravity. Or, as I like to call it, nature's magnet". That made me laugh more than it should've
I came because I'd heard about Gridfinity and it sounded interesting. I'm subbing for the great humor!
This was honestly the best April fools prank I could imagine... I was getting a little chuffed that I just adopted gridfinity, and now it was going to be obsolete lol
as a vet stl printer, and an excited fdm noob, i'm excited for this. good work, my dude.
honest to god best youtube videos ever
That's right way to go. Modular is definetly future.
A non-commercial CC license doesn't prevent someone from selling gridfinity anyway. For a useful item the copyright doesn't extend to physical objects created from the copyrighted material. You need a patent for that.
april fools aside, this is good idea
cant wait for hextraction to gridfinity parts
Yeah...I'm gonna call it Freeballing for all time. I encourage everyone to join me
And here i was sitting here thinking, cool what new things are part of gridfinity 2.0 lol
Great video
Its good that you put this video out today and not yesterday, because I would think you were joking.

Brooke likes pillows.
So that's why they call them throw pillows, learn something new every day.
So I wonder if nobody is going to mention that this looks exactly like a game that has already been made called GraviTrax from Ravensburger, I actually already had designed some pieces myself for that game personally.
