I never use those wall anchors because sometimes the screw grabs and makes them rotate in their hole or even pull out of the hole in some cases. There is another, much better type of drywall anchor that has a self-tapping tip and very coarse threads. You screw it into the drywall directly, no pilot holes required (although it's not a bad idea to make a small one beforehand). The biggest advantage of this type of anchor is that it cannot come loose so you can tighten the screws into them as tight as you want. You can find those at any home improvement store.

By any chance do you have the width and length measurements for a single wall panel as well as weight? I am trying to estimate the amount of filament I would need for my area
the 8x8 core tile I mainly used is 207.65mm x 207.65mm and used 79gm of filament with their recommended settings of .20 layer height, 15% infill, and 3 walls. Hope that helps!
When I used pegboard, the hooks would come off all the time when taking your tool off. This gives you so many more ways to mount things and all of them attach to the wall really well.
This is great. I'll get started printing tonight. Not directly related to this project, but what are the shelves and buckets that you've got up above your multiboard? You're storage solutions are top notch.
Don't get me started on that! I have the Algot system from Ikea which they discontinued in 2020 so I can no longer get shelves for it. So pissed. I wanted that thinner bottom shelf to go all the way across and I think I had one but I can't find it. I should have bought extra of everything so I could have some flexibility if I wanted to move things around. The bins though are all Ikea. Then I bought these plastic label holders from Amazon and then I just printed labels no regular paper that go inside of them to label everything. So I like those... Just wish they would stick with an organizational storage system....
He does have a couple files that you could have used. There's small connectors to hold the back pieces together in sets of 4 and there's wall supports that he suggests to use on larger panels so they don't flex as much
@@CyberBobCity they did seem like they wouldnt be helpful but mine pressed and held into the groves really well and I feel it gives it a bit more rigidity. I did a large 5 panel by 8 panel. Definitely enjoying this system over just the honeycomb
the only thing i would suggest is to mount a aesthetic/sacrificial board (plywood or something) to the wall.and then mount the Multiboard to the wood, only to limit the amount of holes you would drill into the sheet rock. as time goes by you choose to go with a different system or take it down for what ever reason.
Matthias Wandel once made a video criticizing these wall organizers in general. The main issue with such wall systems is that, instead, you could simply attach some OSB to the wall and then screw the 3D-printed supports directly onto it. This approach is cheaper, stronger, and more customizable.
I think these options are a much more refined alternative to screwing into OSB. The same with using French cleats. But everyone has different styles and needs so it's great we have lots of options to find what best suits us! Thanks for watching!
@@CyberBobCityAgreed. These systems have a certain aesthetic appeal, which can be desirable in certain situations, and of course personal preference. Matthias is a genius though, so I would always value his opinion.
There is now actually, though it's still 2 seperate pieces. They cross and make an x-pattern. I'm working on a new video with an update and I'll go over some of the new parts as well.
Honest question; Do you think maybe the amount of wall anchors is overkill? Given the multiboard is plastic (strong, but still plastic) there's a limit to the weight that can be hung. It seems like the large sections (8x8x4's) could be just as good with one anchor in each corner. I could be totally wrong though, thoughts?
I think there are some people putting anchors in all 4 quadrants of the quad snap. I didn't think that was necessary. For this to feel ridged, I think I used the right amount of wall anchors, and 8 of the screws ended up going into studs. While I don't think I'm going to hang anything super heavy on this, the board seems strong.
@ I saw that they have an option to print them stacked now so you can do I think 6 panels in 1 print. They print stacked on top of each other so that might be the way to go for such a long print.
@@Member00101 Yep, a lot of people do that. I have two printers so it honestly didn't seem like a lot of printing doing them one by one. It also depends what you want the face texture to be. So if you have a textured build plate, you might want the front of all your panels to have that same texture. You can't get that same texture with the stacked printing. So something to think about.
It comes with a a couple bolts to bolt on the the brace going from the front to back in the middle of the shelf. Yes, designed and printed some quick caps. I've been meaning to get them up on Printables if you want to print them.
Well, I get that this is was posted 4+ months ago but, you said something I'm trying to learn and I've only had access to a 3d printer for a month so I hope you can help me. Taking 2 designs, removing what you don't want and putting them together is something I'm having issues with and I'm not sure if it's me or the program I'm using. I have Shapr3d and I can import an STL but, I'm not able to modify it, or anything. Please help and thanks.
Hi. What you want is to download the snap ".step" file and that you can import into Shapr3d. Just search the Google for "Snaps - STEP Multiboard Remixing Files" and you'll be able to download that file, import it into Shapr3d, and add additional bodies next to it which you can then export as one piece. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
I mean I've seen a few videos on this and it seems like it has some perks, a big one being the ability to run cables behind it like you said. But to me it seems like HSW with more steps and complications.
It can be exactly like HSW if you want it to be. I do think the panels are stronger and take less filament, so that is a plus. It's great we have a variety of options though at our disposal. Both HSW and Multiboard are cool systems.
The 8x8 core tile uses about 78gm of filament. If you bought a roll of PLA for say $20 for 1Kg, it would cost $1.56 to print the 8x8 core tile. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! It was about 2 rolls of filament for the tiles and not even 1 roll for the white support pieces and the gray snaps on top. So I would say less than $60 in filament and less than $20 in anchors and countersunk screws. The tool holders I made were not much filament at all.
It takes my printer nearly 3 days to print a stack of 4x 9x9 sheets lol. Went with 4 x 6x6 sheets, about 19 hours on that. Printing great it PETG though!
Hey cool video. im in the proces of making a hobby room and i'm definitely gonna get this for my wall. quick question what are the lights you got hanging from your shelf shining on your multiboard? they look nice
Thank you! If you are talking about the colored ones, they are the Govee RGBIC Light Bars. Higher up I also have some under cabinet lighting that is just white that I picked up from Amazon. The Govee lights weren't really bright enough to use ask task lighting. Good luck with your build!
@@CyberBobCity awesome, and would you mind providing your shelving system information as your space pretty much looks like mine and your setup is amazing. Enjoy your day
@@guybaryo3244 well the shelving above my workbench is IKEA Algot which they discontinued. They have a newer system called Boaxel but I’m not sure how it compares. I did use all IKEA bins on my shelves.
@@CyberBobCity awesome! This is very much appreciated. I got the shelves and baskets per your recommendation and have them installed today. Enjoy your weekend!
@@CyberBobCity You mentioned something about the drywall anchors you used not being very secure, do you have a recommendation on which anchors to use? I mounted an IKEA floating shelf recently and had issues with it feeling 'secure' too.
For the cutout supports and making the board more stiff even when offset, I guess you could use the threaded inserts with just the right length to touch and sit on the wall without having to drill new holes. I haven't tried this, so it's just a theory, but I'm in exactly the same position you were where I started the HSW project and then this came along. I love how the models for this system exploded, but I'm not a fan that the official measurements aren't public, but I guess it's only a matter of time. P.S. I tested this on a small scale, it seems like it would work, but there aren't any bolts at the moment that would be the right length for this.
Yes! They are called “Wall Support Pegs” which I was unaware of until another commenter posted about them. I might add them to my build in a future video. Seems like they would work perfect for that. Thanks for watching!
My Bambu P1S's print fast, I didn't see the need to mess with the stacked prints, especially since I heard the surface finish isn't as nice. Thanks for watching!
I've since been told of some "Wall Support Pegs" you can install which can help with that. But in daily practice it's no big deal. The honeycomb wall only has snaps, this can use pegboard accessories, snaps, or threaded bolts because both the octogons and the smaller peg board holes are threaded...
I just started printing this as well, very neat project. My only real wish was that he designed the system to have the the standard 1 inch Pegboard hole spacing. It's designed for 25mm spacing where standard would be 25.4, so super close but over the whole wall it adds up. I'm printing it sized up by 1.6 percent to see if it will still work and get me to the standard spacing. Fingers crossed!
Very interesting point. I am printing a 9-foot wide (by 4 -foot-high) wall right now. I don't plan to use a ton of printed accessories, as I just bought a 278-piece, metal accessory pack, and also several shelves and baskets. None span more than 12 holes (horizontally). It will be interesting to see if I find any issues. BTW, I decided to use this over a standard metal 1-in (25.4 mm) pegboard, because I need to mount all my home automation equipment and Wi-fi/routers/switches. Lots of wires, and this will organize/hide them. IMO, this is the true value of this system. Of course, I plan to hang a ton of 3D printer tools also. I am a huge fan of this design. And CyberBob... your video is what inspired me ...Thanks!
Honeycomb can also ne mounted away from the wall, I don't think the amount of flex matters at all, and I don't care about the licence stuff. So now which one is better and why? Thanks.
If the screws for your drywall anchors won't give you a solid mount, you've probably drilled the hole too big, or you may have stripped the plastic anchor.
The anchors came with the drill bit to use. I think maybe my countersunk screws I switched out might not be long enough. I'm going to try a test on a spare cutoff of drywall.
Oh, duh. They are the Performax shelving from Menards. Give me a few mins and I'll update the video description with links to the exact pieces I used. Thanks for clarify, I was brain dead.
They ARE Ikea, but an old discontinued system they don't make anymore. They were nice and I loved they were metal... I don't know why thy got rid of them. Thanks for watching!
Nice I started pronting my parts last week. I'm in such a hurry to get stuff printed Ive got a bunch of multi grid and multi board going at the same time. Are you planning on sharing your remixed holders? Subscribing for future content
Um... There's supposed to be a two-part cross-connector thing for holding the intersection of four plates, instead of just using a pair of double connectors on the back...
Growing up in the US Midwest, Menard's was a staple... their little jingle is "save big money at Menard's" or as we sung it "save big money at my nards." Their house brand of tools "MasterForce" is more of a master farce, but they do sell good products at great prices and have a lot of hard to find items.
the screw in plastic type of drywall anchor which split after putting hardware through them are the only one's worth using. they can hold so much weight it's crazy
I do like those and use them everywhere else. For some reason I thought the ones I bought would be great for this board... Should have stuck with the screw ones though.
that could be a thing, if they're the split type of anchor the screw does for sure need to be long enough to get past the "pop open" point of the anchor
It’s really not too bad. There are 3 types. Core tiles, side tiles, and a corner tile. Most of your board will be core tiles starting from the bottom left and working up and to the right. The top and right edges will be side tiles, and your final tile in the top right corner will be the one corner tile. You should only need one of those corner tiles.
I am using the Quad Part B connectors, but I don't think the piece you are talking about is used "in place" of the Part A dual connectors. I think it just joins two of them in the right orientation.... I think. Jonathan didn't use them in his getting started video so I didn't see the need for them here. But I'm just going by the information I could glean from the Multiboard site and all the videos. If I am understanding you. Thanks much fort the comment!

@@CyberBobCity thanks for the info, and that’s really unfortunate. I guess I’ll go hunting for something similar.
Ikea currently has their BOAXEL shelves but when I saw them in the store they didn't seem as high quality.
how much filament did all of that take?
About 3 to 4 rolls, everything included.
Looks great I'm about to start printing mine
Have fun!
He does have a couple files that you could have used. There's small connectors to hold the back pieces together in sets of 4 and there's wall supports that he suggests to use on larger panels so they don't flex as much
The connectors seemed kind of fidgety. I did just learn about the Wall Support Pegs and those would have been useful.
Thanks for watching!
@@CyberBobCity they did seem like they wouldnt be helpful but mine pressed and held into the groves really well and I feel it gives it a bit more rigidity. I did a large 5 panel by 8 panel. Definitely enjoying this system over just the honeycomb
Nice! If you are in the Discord channel you show post some pics of your setup in "Show and Tell"!
the only thing i would suggest is to mount a aesthetic/sacrificial board (plywood or something) to the wall.and then mount the Multiboard to the wood, only to limit the amount of holes you would drill into the sheet rock. as time goes by you choose to go with a different system or take it down for what ever reason.
That is not a bad idea. But too late now! So far it's been really handy. I'm posting an update video very soon.
Great video!!! Can you share the link to the wall shelves above your multiboard?
They are IKEA shelves that have been discontinued.
I agree with cheaper solution, if want aestethic maybe we can try to engrave the OSB with honeycomb pattern :)
I wonder why there isn't a quad support snaps (like there is a front snap).
What was the print time on all those panels?
I think about 75 hours just for the panels. The 8x8 squares take about 3 hours each on my Bambu Lab P1S
Glad to see you back. Love the new video. 🤞🏻more vids this year?
Yes definitely! Thanks for watching!
Do you have the link to upper shelving?
Unfortunately the shelves I have are a discontinued model from Ikea. Their current model is the BOAXEL system.
Does that Menard's shelving require any hardware? What are those caps on the side rails, did you just 3d print caps?
Have you print this in PLA or PETG?
I did all PLA+
It's necessary all that hole on the wall?
Yes, if you want them to be pretty strong.
What sized flat head m screws did you use?
#8, 1 1/4" long. But I think they might be too short which could be the issue I was having with the anchors... I'm going to try a test soon.
how much does it cost to print such panels?
The 8x8 core tile uses about 78gm of filament. If you bought a roll of PLA for say $20 for 1Kg, it would cost $1.56 to print the 8x8 core tile. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@@CyberBobCity thank you very much, this was exactly what i wanted to know
Nice build 😎 Do you have an approximate cost for that project? Amount of filament used? Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! It was about 2 rolls of filament for the tiles and not even 1 roll for the white support pieces and the gray snaps on top. So I would say less than $60 in filament and less than $20 in anchors and countersunk screws. The tool holders I made were not much filament at all.
Printing a 3x3 mini just to see how it works and if I'll make use of the thing but it looks really promising.
Nice!
Hi! Awesome video, would it be much to ask for the Bosch 12V mount as an STL? Thanks!
Sure! Email me at bob@cyberbobcity.com and I can send it to you.
what would you use the threaded "ped" for?
I have used many threaded items yet honestly. Mostly the snaps and the pegboard hooks.
currently printing my second tile, im so stoked :) tho it takes ages on my ender 3 lol
A Bambu Lab printer definitely helps. But I’ve printing on my Ender 3 Pro for years and it was a true workhorse! Keep at it!!
It takes my printer nearly 3 days to print a stack of 4x 9x9 sheets lol. Went with 4 x 6x6 sheets, about 19 hours on that. Printing great it PETG though!
Nice work! Thanks for watching!
What printer do you use ? And what do you recommend?
I have a few printers but my Bambu Lab P1S Combo’s are really all I use lately. They are just phenomenal!
@@CyberBobCity thank you looking to get my first printer 👍

Me too!
Do you happen to have the build list for your performax printer rack/shelf. Love the setup and would like to replicate? Thanks
I’ll make sure I add that to the description tomorrow with links to the Menards site!
@@CyberBobCity awesome, and would you mind providing your shelving system information as your space pretty much looks like mine and your setup is amazing.

I would, but my wife would kill me. I'll likely only be able to set it up in the garage.
Rad video thx - this may be the reason i get a printer. Make more videos please. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching! Will do!
How long did it take to print all that? I have an X1C and just printing a single 9x9 multiboard tile is going to take 5 hours :(
They are all 8 x 8 tiles and took about 3 hours each. It really didn't seem to bad.
Good video. Those bottle holders look awesome. hah
Thanks much Nerlin! Those bottle holders are awesome! The link is in the description if you'd like to download them.... 😉
Great video, were you able to stack print the multiboard parts?
My Bambu P1S's print fast, I didn't see the need to mess with the stacked prints, especially since I heard the surface finish isn't as nice.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome. How many kg of filament did this take?
Maybe 1.75kg in total. I don't have an exact measurement. It didn't seem like a lot though.
@@CyberBobCity wow that is impressive
I think about 3kg
Why not use the quad part A?
They weren’t available when I built this.
I don't like how the board flexes when inserting tools into it! Btw what is the actual benfit of this over the Honeycom design?
I've since been told of some "Wall Support Pegs" you can install which can help with that. But in daily practice it's no big deal.
The honeycomb wall only has snaps, this can use pegboard accessories, snaps, or threaded bolts because both the octogons and the smaller peg board holes are threaded...
4:43 you mean countersunk screws, the others are button head. flathead refers to the type of screwdriver needed
yep, you're right.
Interesting! I’m curious to see if it works out for you. Good luck!
@@tobyvorpahl4279Good luck on your setup Toby! Thanks for watching! 😊
Honeycomb can also ne mounted away from the wall, I don't think the amount of flex matters at all, and I don't care about the licence stuff. So now which one is better and why? Thanks.
I like Multiboard better because there are lots of ways to attach accessories onto the wall. Thanks for watching!
@@CyberBobCity Is that not also true for honeycomb?
@@D4RKFiB3R No, they only have one way, honeycomb snaps.
Cool video mate. Any chance you could do a video on splicing multiboard mating parts onto honeycomb accesories in Tinkercad?
Yes, that could be a good video. I'll keep that in mind!
Could you share a link to the rack?

100% true

You don’t even need the plywood sheet! Multiboard also has mounts to hang it off French cleats!
Um... There's supposed to be a two-part cross-connector thing for holding the intersection of four plates, instead of just using a pair of double connectors on the back...
Those pieces were released a month or two after I made this video. I’ll be posting an update with some of the new parts very soon.
Am I the only one who looked at the place he got the printer rack and with a pirate voice thought "me nards!!"?
Probably not!!
Growing up in the US Midwest, Menard's was a staple... their little jingle is "save big money at Menard's" or as we sung it "save big money at my nards."
Their house brand of tools "MasterForce" is more of a master farce, but they do sell good products at great prices and have a lot of hard to find items.
the screw in plastic type of drywall anchor which split after putting hardware through them are the only one's worth using. they can hold so much weight it's crazy
I do like those and use them everywhere else. For some reason I thought the ones I bought would be great for this board... Should have stuck with the screw ones though.
yeah those push in ones are pretty hit and miss, the split apart put in one's are a little better
@@justinbouchard I still need to do a test to see why they aren't locking on. It will be in my next video. I think the screws I picked are too short.
that could be a thing, if they're the split type of anchor the screw does for sure need to be long enough to get past the "pop open" point of the anchor
What you call the 'core' type is called the corner tyle on their page lol.. so confusing. I was like this makes no sense
There is a quad connector to use in place of the 2 double connector for the wall mount. It joins 4 tiles at the corner.
