HA GIANG, VIETNAM - We are traveling through the very northern and remote province of Ha Giang in Vietnam. Today we’ll drive from Ha Giang town to Don Van, stopping along the way at a few beautiful spots, eating lunch and dinner, and going on a spectacular hike!
Normally the Ha Giang loop is famous for going by motorbike, but with my son, we decided to go by van.
When we set off in the morning it was quite cloudy and drizzly. So unfortunately when we got to one of the mountain passes, there wasn’t much of a view. But luckily the weather got better throughout the day. We stopped for lunch to eat some black chicken with ginger which was excellent.
We finally arrived to Dong Van and took about an hour hike through the mountains and a few villages, which was spectacular.
We finished the day in Dong Van, just a stones throw from the China border, which a local black chicken and herbal hot pot.
A big thank you to YESD Travel Vietnam for making this happen: yesd.org/ Highly recommended for authent and responsible tours in Vietnam.

Mark is one of the most 'HANDS DOWN' well educated in the cultural anthropology of each area he visits. Each dish he reviews, is paired with location and development of the cuisines aswell as an honest opinion that reflects the people's- for those of us riding along to places we'll never go

Omgoodness! The panoramic views & backdrops are so epic & cinematic! I can only imagine how therapeutic the freshly misty aroma is hiking around the mountains which is something I highly appreciate & love doing as well. After enjoying an all-natural organic meal then walking it off on the curvaceous mountainside is truly rewarding & priceless. Life is so beautiful! Thanks again Mark for the Sunday morning virtual treatment! I honestly wish I could've joined you on the meal & hike in this phenomenal video you displayed. Blessings and peace always my brother to you & your family 🙏 🗻🍵

This is a great video!! If I may correct your pronunciation, Ha Giang, the "Gi" makes a Z sound. It is pronounced Ha Zang. The first place you stopped for lunch is in the city of Trần Hưng Đạo, in the district of Yên Minh, in Ha Giang Province. Yên is pronounced like "In". I have a son, adopted son that lives in Yên Phong, Bac Ninh Province where one of the Samsung factories are. I used to pronounce it Yen, until a Vietnamese person here in the US corrected me. To us Americans their language is hard to learn, hard to pronounce, but for them English is hard to learn and pronounce. hehe Your video is awesome!! The views from the mountains in the North are spectacular!! I have not been to Ha Giang yet, I hope to be able to get up there one day!! Ha Giang, Cao Bang, and Sapa, and Ha Long Bay are places I have not been yet, but hope to go when next time I am there. I've been there 4 times for a month at a time, to see my family and friends and completely love Việt Nam!! I am trying to move and spend the rest of my retirement there with my family (adopted) and many friends!! At the end of the video, you mentioned the vegetable that was sour. When I am with my families they cook their food, and always lay out their mat and eat on the floor. There is one vegetable, maybe it is the one you mentioned, but I cannot eat it at all!! It is way too sour for me!! Anyway, travel safe!!! ~~~ Norris (one of my sons, him and his wife have a Bakery/Cake/Pizza shop in Yên Phong in Bac Ninh province. They bake different breads and items. You should check it out if you are in the area!! Simple Bakery, it used to be Simple Coffee&Cake) 😉

In Vietnam, that black chicken is more expensive than the normal chicken. They are also smaller in size than the normal chicken. Do you believe it or not? They also cook it with some herbal medicine and serve for the sick, and rich people. They believe the disk provide a lot of nutritional and medical value for some one to regain their strength after a major surgery. They often cooks the dish in a small clay pot which is used to cook herbal medicine. They cook it until the eater can easy chew the bones and eat the whole chicken without throwing any away.
