Not much has changed for the Silverado at least. GM still uses steel for major structural components and body panels. Aluminum is only used in moving panels like the doors and hood.
Was the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq tested above equipped with seatbelt pretensioners at all seating locations? The 2024 GM Order Guide does not show this feature for the Lyriq. The 2025 GM Order Guide for the Cadillac Lyriq however, does show standard seat belt pretensioners for the rear seat occupants only. If I am correct, and I am not positive that I am; why is this important safety feature not available for the front seat driver and passenger? It seems based on the above video, the device would certainly have helped contain the rapid forward movement of the test dummies. Strange, but the 2025 Order Guide shows that the Chevy Blazer EV has seat belt pretensioners standard for front and rear passengers and standard for rear passengers only on the Chevy Equinox EV.
Now that the IIHS is testing rear occupant safety in frontal crashes (this just started in the last year), we are definitely going to see more rear seat pretensioners and rear seat safety equipment 🙏 that is probably why GM is starting to add this stuff for the upcoming model year, they don't want their car to fail where others are passing I totally agree with you, rear seat pretensioners are a must, and should be mandated in all new cars. Rear seat protection is lacking without them
@@thewiseguy3529 So far to date, a post-crash-test fire has only occurred once. In late 2011, a Chevrolet Volt underwent a side pole crash test. While the vehicle was sitting in a holding yard, three weeks after the test, the vehicle caught fire. A post-crash fire has not occurred at a testing facility since, as far as I know of.
Excellent structure
But it only got 4* for the pass on this basic test. Kinda disappointing for a brand new design. Why can’t GM build top crash performing cars?
@@Wasabi9111 overall it got five stars...
@@SuperBooboo02but this is a brand new structure. Almost every other car receives 5 stars. It’s just not excusable.
04:32, GM used to make fun of Ford for using aluminum in the redesigned F150. Glad to see they have come around and changed their mind on it.

I have a Tesla and next car is a Lyriq.
@5:15 I can see Jesus face in the driver's side air bag ! ! ! ! ✝✝✝✝✝✝
What happens when the batteries explode
You aren't funny.
