Thank you so much for your lovely comment. 😊
I genuinley wish i learnt to drive from this guy, he actually teaches stuff about driving other instructors dont that you should actually know as a beginner

My driving instructor is rather aggressive and your videos help me so much and give me confidence, thank you for existing 😭😭🙏🙏
That biting point when talking about the break makes SO much sense. It really made something click in my head
Yup, I wish you could teach me how to drive. Some instructors just can't accurately explain the biting point.
😊
This is what you call real teaching 👊🏽💯
I absolutely love this channel! Every single real life topic, that you need to understand, is covered. I find that other driving channels are 'by the book' and don't really think about the real life driving skills that are required, but not Richard! He is well ahead of any other channels out there. I thank you very much for everything you've taught me!
I'm doing some refreshers now after years of not driving and would absolutely love to have a few lessons with you. Just a shame we live in a completely different part of the country 😔
Watching from Kenya. We use UK's highway code, our cars are Right hand drive, so most stuff you teach here are relevant in Kenya
It's nice to know I'm helping people that far away.
Even in South Africa and Zimbabwe
ex colony.... and you are driving on wrong side ;)
@@Sailor92 we drive on the left side. It's the cars that are Right Hand Drive..(The driver seats on the right). It is also universal sense that we don't associate politics with cars
@@Sailor92 you are mad 😡
omg I've been struggling with this for months now and noone has been able to explain it better than you.. not even my instructor! thank you so much
Richard, I have to thankyou so much, I had my driving test today and was soooo nervous and thanks to you I passed. I learned more from your videos than I ever did with my instructor, your videos are so helpful, the way you talk and how you describe things helps so much, again thank you so much mate.
And please keep doing these videos, they are a must for people like me.
Congratulations! Thank you for your kind words about the videos, they mean a lot.
I have my license but haven't driven a car in 5 years and its gonna be the first time I drive since I had my license so this just helped me amazingly 🙏🙏
I wish I had an instructor like you when I was 17. The fella that showed up to teach me looked and sounded like he’d done a lot of acid in the past. He tried to swindle me by taking a ridiculous route to the industrial estate where the lesson was to be held and he could barely put a sentence together. He assumed I already knew everything and basically just insulted me for 20 minutes and then charged me £22.
I’m 32 now and still can’t drive. Fingers crossed with the help of these videos I’ll finally get it done this year.
I'm sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck.
Lol crackhead instructors
I love the way you explain each and everything. Keep it up mate...
Thank you.
@@ConquerDriving your most welcome. Love from India. 👍
I have just stalled my car after I braked at roundabout, I am so lucky to found your video.Thank you very much for your amazing advice 💓💓💓
Thank you, I wish you good luck 🤞
Richard u are amazing man I passed my driving test because of u just keep it up man ur videos are so helpful
Congratulations and thank you ☺
Did my driving test here in Portugal with less than 20 hours of lessons. You helped me :)
I'm happy to hear that! Congratulations!
Oh hell, here in Lithuania you have to have 30 hours of lessons and pass a mock test in order to finish the driving school. You can only attend the real test with a driving school certificate.
I absolutely love the idea to start learning from sitting on the passenger seat and getting know how the brakes work! On my first lesson I've been told to drive down the hill and I was soooo afraid I won't be able to stop the car and keep a good control over steering in the same time... we survived lol but very long after that my braking wasn't smooth as subconsciously I've got a feeling that to stop the car you just need to push the brakes as hard as you can 🙈 I believe many beginners have the same or similar issues so giving them a chance to concentrate on one thing at the time is great 👏👏👏
You're absolutely right and most people do do exactly what you said and brake really hard.
@@ConquerDriving that's why I do appreciate your methods of teaching and your detailed videos as well - it is a massive help, believe me (unfortunately you are too far to be my instructor 😪)...
This guy genuinely a really good teacher. Wish I was trained by him when I learned how to drive
I’m a PDI & have recently found your channel, have to say I absolutely love it! I’m picking up so many tips I’ll be able to use when I start teaching. The one in this video of letting the pupil use the dual break isn’t something I’d have thought of but is an awesome idea I’ll now use!
I'm happy to hear that, I think the more gently I can ease someone into driving the better. Confidence and skill increases more quickly. Less stress for everyone.
Thank you, this is very helpful especially as in getting back into driving again after passing my test years ago.
I'm happy to hear that, you're welcome.
Good way of teaching. I used to forget gears so hubby would allow me to change gears while he is driving. After that l never had any problems with gears
Good idea.
Helps me to learn driving immensely, thanks...though Im 16...............Manual transmittion (from India)
you are the best teacher ever because i am a learner driver and my driving intructer doesnt learn me anything usefull like this
I passed my test on the 15th July and got a car three days later but I still watch your videos haha

Great tips, thank you so much! I never had much trouble with the gas, clutch, steering, or shifter, but braking has always been a problem for me. I'm sure with your tips and some practice I will get the hang of it eventually though. Greetings from America!
Fabulous idea regarding Pupil on the duals.. I totally agree that the “braking” is so influential in learning quickly. Thanks once more Richard for a wonderful video.
Thank you.
Thanks, when I'm learn to drive (currently) , My driving instincts kick in automatically though. This has helped me a bit.
Some people find this particular task quite hard.

Can you pls make a video on how to keep a constant speed? cuz it seems like i sometimes go over speedlimit and sometimes a lot below speed limit
I'll add it to my list.
I also struggle with this and I like your request.
Dont you hate it when your parents are teaching you how to drive and think just showing you the car will magically teach you how to drive?and then when your actually driving their yelling your ear off? Ya me too
omg this breaking control is y problem 😔 my instructor told me to practice breaking... but where and how to practice when i only step in the car during my lesson 😔
Practise from the passenger seat with the dual controls, I find this works well.
I've done around 27 hours of lessons! 16 hours before quarantine and 11 hours after quarantine And I'm basically ready! But I can't even book a lesson until the government website let's me book!
if I stop doing lessons I feel like I'll forget the important stuff! So I'm basically doing lessons and wasting money! And it's really frustrating me to no end!
I'm sorry to hear that. There are many in your position at the moment.
My mums friend who teaches me yo drive he makes me push clutch and go down through all the gears really really fast on the road and tells me to turn at certain roads within 100 metres whilst I’m driving 80kmh
When I say use clutch it’s every single time and I end up riding the clutch and the break feels like I don’t even touch it and it’s the same as I slam my foot down on it
I have a question for you: I have a small Polo, automatic. When I gently press the brake, I get the feeling/impression that the car wants to go faster. Am I crazy? Or is there a 'free floating' point in the brake pedal travel where the car is (?) not completely under control (?)
Generally automatics will have different levels of braking as you slow down as when the automatic gearbox changes down a gear you will normally get extra engine braking.
@@ConquerDriving Thanks for the reply! Loving your videos, even if I drive on the other side of the road (Belgium here)
Hello from India. I'm a new driver and find your videos helpful for improving my driving skills. Can you please make a video on turning left or right and which gear should be used 1st or 2nd? Would be useful at narrow turns or signals.

Haha, thank you. I often get socks for Christmas so I don't know were they're from.
Very helpful 👍🏼
You're welcome.
My test is this friday, help !
I wish you the best of luck 🤞
Do we have to only use the glutch when we change gear and break
You have to use the clutch to change gear but only for braking if your revs go below 1000rpm.
When you brake and need to downshift, do you clutch while braking or release the brake and then clutch?
The brake and clutch are not connected. I brake as I need to. The clutch comes down when the revs are around 1000rpm if I want to continue braking.
Great 👍👍..
I keep hearing "MILES PER HOUR" here, are they using miles instead of kilometers in the UK?
Yes, we usually use miles in the UK for driving but kilometres for walking, running and cycling.
@@ConquerDriving wow...i did not know that...thank you for replying
I would practise on an empty parking lot until i get the feel for braking pedal cause i feel like it is important
Plz also tell about brakes control
while parking car
Maybe search for my video acceleration control. I know I've covered this in one of my videos. Probably need to do a special video for it.
@@ConquerDriving I just saw that video ,but can u give tips for
how to control brakes while parking in bays n with an automatic car. It will be really helpful .
Why do I have a crush on this guy lol
Haha, thank you. Probably because the camera is kind. 😉
If clutch up 2nd gear is on when turning corner..isnt not going to be fast and difficult to control car for beginners?
Most cars will be less than 10mph in second gear. Mine is 6-7mph. 3 cylinder cars and diesels are often 9-10mph. Which is slow enough for most. If it's too hard then first gear.
Hiiii frist I want to tell you that am like your show .am new learner did you have frist time driving learn I mean all types of car
Thank you. I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. I learnt in a manual when I was 17.
@@ConquerDriving I mean did you have video having frist driving lesson thanks you
when do u press clutch down when breaking? Is it around 20mph?
When the revs get to around 1000rpm. This video may help you ruclips.net/video/kLGpfdRFxxU/видео.html
How to find bit to the break ?
Slowly press the brake and you will feel the car start to slow. That's the bite.
6:00
7:16
Q: So before you break or stop, do you
1. Change your gears then break ?
Or
2. Break and when you stop change to gear 1?
Braking first is more important most of the time. But you can do either depending on how you want to slow down.
i don’t think i can emphasise enough how much i need to shake this mans hand
What a great idea to put the beginner in the passenger seat when teaching to brake properly! Would be useful for those anxiety-prone learners like me to reduce stress and build confidence.
i have already done 22 hours of lessons. in 15 of september i have the test. and u have helped me a lot with ur videos. thanks.
You're welcome ☺ Good luck 🤞
Good luck, you'll do fine. Had my test earlier on this week and it wasn't that bad

You are saving lives here my good sir...
God bless fellow English man.
Thank you.
Your videos really feel like a blessing to me. I think driving doesn't come naturally to me. I needed explanation of each & every problem & I believe nobody on RUclips can explain it better than you. Hope I can pass my test in New York. It's scheduled for next month. Thank you so much for helping people save their lives as well as others.
You're very welcome, I'm happy to hear I'm helping 😊
I would love an instructor like you, this saves alot of lessons. Thank you very much 🙌👍
Can I use the clutch to move a manual car rather than setting gas first...bcz setting gas first takes time...instead can i bring clutch to biting point and then give gas ?
Mango Slice ! Yes mate u can do that
@@LyricalBeast why would you recommend that method? This why most of pupils that I take over from someone else struggle to move off because they focus on biting point without adding an accelerator pedal and when they actually feel the biting point they forget to release the brake pedal for example and stall the engine eventually. So my advice is: keep on practicing adding a gas a fraction second before reaching the biting point. You will get better very quickly.
Jaromir Łosiniecki yes i understand but for beginners is better to start like that cuz they will get more experiences with the clutch... keeping the clutch at the bitting point. When they are good at controlling the clutch then they can try with gas first. Ur advice is helpfull :)
@@LyricalBeast that makes sense then :) I do teach biting point first without touching the gas but this is only 1st-2nd lesson unless someone is struggling longer. Take care!
This video should answer your question: ruclips.net/video/k1SBFfMbksI/видео.html
This is by far my favourite driving channel. The best teachers are the ones who are passionate about their subject and you are clearly very passionate about driving! Thank you for helping us all learn this incredibly important life skill
Wish this guy was my tutor. He explains things so simply and has a pleasant tone. Much better than being berated and made to feel like crap when you make a mistake.
I always appreciated the 3 stage breaking approach. Gets away from the idea that your pedals are switches. You start light, then gently increase to slow the car, then gently lighten as you reach the speed you need or stop. Keeps the car settled throughout, starting slowly doesn’t surprise anyone behind you, and ending lightly is more pleasant than jerking. And imagining the braking in 3 sections like this seems to help in gauging distances needed, and therefore helps with knowing when to start. I advise anyone new to driving to look up 3 stage breaking videos. Reglocal on RUclips does a great one.
That's exactly what I do - I just don't say 3 stage. Find the bite of the brake, modulate it and reduce at the end. You need to modulate to prevent stopping too early or late.
I totally agree, if you teach the beginner how to brake properly, you give him some sense of control and confidence that, no matter what, they can pause/stop, and get back on track when the stressful situation is left :). That's how i'd like to have started driving lessons. 🙏
wow this is exatly what i needed
I'm happy to be of help 😊
I've never heard anyone explain that biting point with the brakes. That immediately fixed the problem I had with braking smoothly. Thank you!
I still remember the time when I had accelerated instead of braking while taking a right turn. My instructor gave me a stern look. I got shivers from what I did, amateur moment indeed xD And at that moment I decided that automatic cars will suit me better.
Thank you for the tips :) specifically advising learners like me not to overthink when to brake. Also I like your teaching method focusing on one technique first, which is helpful because it can be overwhelming when you are thinking about other things at the same time.
Am gonna have my 2nd lesson on wednesday when should i take my theory test
As soon as you feel ready. The sooner you get ready the better.
03:05 All Right ...
Just passed my test, thanks for the content 👊🏽
Congratulations! Well done!
My instructor just waits til i do something wrong and panics. I have to tell him to clearly explain things prior. And I've gone through 30+hours of learning 1 hour+ a day and he still hasn't adjusted. 🤣 i honestly feel F-d💀 i don't know how to keep the car on while on a hill and how to move off while in traffic (very dangerous) all the advice I got was a mumble of words of how i shouldn't have done "that" (what it was I should've done, idk) and a scolding which i couldn't care for.
Thanks for this post. Been scratching my head about this the last few days and as such it has left me anxious about getting into car with instructor.
Spent the last couple of days trying to understand braking from my instructor, however it feels like I'm being told to brake at different times.
I also notice that I just get told to brake and to start thinking about braking much earlier than what I read while doing my theory.
Unfortunately I still don't know how much is too much and too little. As a result I often get told by instructor that I don't brake if I brake too little.
Other times when I do put my foot down on the brake she has a pile of stuff on her lap that she intentionally doesn't hold on to so when I brake sharply, she let's it fall on the floor.
At the end I feel guilty for having got in the car and relieved that we reached end of lesson, just because I don't know if it's me or if it's normal to be feeling like this.
@One4 ALL Please get yourself a different instructor. I had the same with my first one, and figured that his trial-and-error-but-I-get-irritated-when-you-get-it-wrong-method of teaching.... doesn't meet my style of learning. After a few lessons with a different instructor, I begin to relax en enjoy my lessons
I don't think doing that with the stuff on her lap will help you. Get your instructor in the drivers seat, you in the passenger seat. She accelerates and drives the car and as regularly as you can she can tell you to try and stop using the dual control brake. That way you can get loads of practise. Also, make sure your heel is on the floor for the brake. Normally this gets most good at the brake within 30 mins.
I honestly have the exact same problem. But my driving instructor would raise his voice and it would seriously put me off and I would make more mistakes. I really get anxious when I am in the car with him now. I would change but I am taking me test on the 1st oct
Starting my driving lessons on 31st. Watched all your videos and I feel confident for it now. Brilliant content 👌🏼
Thank you, good luck 🤞
Can u have footcam demonstration too
My foot moves so little it's hard to see it once I'm braking. Very small adjustments. I may try for the next braking video.
Thankyou I'm very confused with pedals😖wish me luck🙏🏻
Good luck 🤞
Thankyou 😊
the first car I drove for the road test had a firmer bite and was easier to drive, but for the second car the bite was looser and it was so difficult for me to handle it, it also had a kickback. So I need to learn to brake on any brake regardless of the sensitivity.
As someone wjos driven for years I wish i had you as my instructor. One of the best teachers I've ever had...your videos have helped me immensely. Thak you Nigel
Your videos are quite helpful please do a video on how to hold the steering wheel in heavy turns slow speeds high speeds etc
Thank you. Good idea.
Does anyone know of any resources similar to this but for an American audience? This is very helpful but Some things are definitely different in the US
Haha my instructors car has 0 dead space, and I was learning with that
And suddenly I got to my moms car with SO MUCH dead space
The best instructor....wish we could learn from you
You are doing a great job
BIG thanks to you Richard! I've been taking lessons for some time now and thanks to you it's been a rehearsal process as opposed to studying from 0, was already prepared by the time I took my first lesson, me and my buddy as well. Have sent your videos across the entire university. Love your ease with explanation and overall energy, cheers mate from Georgia!
P.S. I dicovered something whilst helping my groupmates with dancing classes and maybe it could help your teaching as well: In dancing when there are complicated moves that can feel overwhelming it is best to help the students aknoweldge a certain move or a position not as a collective movement of separate organs (legs, arms, waist etc) but rather percieve their body as a single organ_ a single unit just like their certain single organ. For example when you so a thumbs up you're not thinking thinking of what to do with each finger and wrist separately _ it's a single unit , a single motion, same with the whole body during dancing or driving especially a manual transmission, instead of thinking of what to do with the feet and the hands individually it is best to vizualise and feel all of it (changing gear, moving the pedals, steering) as a single thing to do rather than 4 different things to do, hope it helps.
Thank you for sharing. With practise people start to do what you said. A gear change for me is a single movement. But you can't start off that way, you have to learn everything separately, the more I can separate things at the start the more success I get.
Conquer Driving Right, that makes sense, and it’s great what you said about letting the students watch you in action first and then do it themselves after cause that’s a great way for many people to learn something of a physical nature.
