I made the same mistakes you talked about in this video...I lost confidence because I thought I just wasn’t good at driving but watching you made me realize it’s part of the learning process. knowing that has given much more confidence and I’m more motivated to learn the correct way to make left turns 🤗
He is teaching silly women who have no spatial awareness and have to be taught to drive like robots. What he is teaching is innate to any with spatial awareness. He is making something very simple and innate into something unnecessaily complex and in a very drawn out and boring way.
I'm a pdi, and a driver of 30 years. All I can say is what an absolutely brilliant video and explanation. That will help me greatly improve my teaching for road positioning. Thank you.
Came here after crying my eyes out after my 6th lesson (kinda embarrassing) my instructors is getting a bit fed up with me cus I still can’t turn right and left perfectly all the time, I felt so stupid (I’ll do it right 2 times and then the 3rd I’ll mess up) so watching these videos have really been helping me feel a bit better :)
I'm in the same situation. After exactly 6 classes I still make mistakes while turning. And other mistakes...my instructor is fed up with me. I feel horrible
@@godiloveminininjas4278 You're paying Them to teach you. You are paying for the service of them being a good instructor. If they're getting fed up of you they're doing their job badly. It's your right to learn at whatever pace you need as you are the paying customer
Exactly what I was looking for... could not understand what was wrong with me and why I cannot properly perform such a basic task. Now I understand that my bad positioning is due to my wrong perception of my position in the junction and I am not the only one in this situation. Thank you so much!
what you just explained is exactly what i needed to hear and what i wished my instructor had briefed me on my first lesson. thank you so much, i'll definitely try out your tips on my next lesson!
Richard do u think u would be able to make a video where u are just driving the whole time and just say out loud what u would be thinking at that present moment and how u would adapt to different road situations. Doesn't have to be a long video maybe 15 to 20 min will suffice. Btw great videos. I watch every single one of them. Keep it up.
My instructor was fed up with me turning left or right without hitting the curve and not staying in the left lane, also not always gonna answer my questions, but watching your videos makes me feel better
I started learning to drive, third lesson in a couple days, and I found this video has been the most helpful in making me stay in position and making me feel more confident. My driving instructor says I've been learning fast, but I think it's coz of all these techniques I've implemented. I especially like the leg technique for finding the middle of the lane. On my first lesson I swirved left and right a lot, but now I don't have that problem.
My instructor just says, sit properly, sit in the middle of the seat. I have just sat properly, in the middle, I swear. However I just can't place myself i the middle of the lane. After watching this video with your with your explanation, I hope that I can implement the knee technique later.
After a few unsuccessful and panic stricken lessons in a manual drive, I'm having my first lesson in an auto today and watching your videos has helped so much. You've explained everything so much better than my previous instructors,so I now feel I'm going to my lesson with a bit more confidence and armed with very useful info. Thank you very much! 😊👍🏻
I tried this technique and although I didn't get to grips with it on the turning aspect at the time, it certainly helped on the straight. I forever veer to the left and my instructor has to push the wheel away from the kerb or parked cars, which was getting to me somewhat. I applied your technique and she didn't have to touch the steering wheel once. The best thing about this tip is that it takes the job away your eyes in a sense, as it's more of a "feel" approach. Thanks.
You're welcome, it's much harder to get it to work on then bend. I normally need to give loads of help and encouragement to get it to work. It's all about aiming at the right spot, not steering to early, not being afraid of the curb and adding enough steer for your left leg to go on the middle of your new lane after the bend.
I just wanna say the "position yourself" advice was one of the first ones I got from your videos and it was amazingly useful. It helped me position a lot a better from one lesson to the next only by changing my mindset.
I passed my practical test last week on wed which was my 3rd attempt . I love watching your videos. You such a young instructor know so much about driving and details that's really amazing. Shame you got only 31.000 subscribers and you deserve more than that for sure. Another thing as i mentioned months ago that your speaking is so clear , all amazing. Well done and good luck in future. You achieve and deserve a lot. If i were you i would move to London where you can get more pupils i assume. Watching you is never boring. You should be on tv channels actually. I am sure you would be watched on tv too... Take care 👍
So many things learnt through your videos. Just commenting to say that you are the best instructor out there when it comes to driving safely. May God bless you!
I love the way you explain things because you break it down so well. It may sound like a silly thing, but would you be able to do a video on turning the steering wheel? Like when to begin turning, and how much to turn when going around bends, or turning. Thank you so much 🤗
Fantastic explanation of positioning. Really struggled to grasp this before. Always felt I was awful at spatial awareness, but the left leg middle of the road and reassurance about practice is so helpful thank you a million times!
got a lesson today in a manual. the past couple lessons i’ve had i kept messing up my position and kept driving like i was in a go kart. this video is really helpful and i’ll try and remember this whilst in the lesson.
You've just described one of my main issues while driving. One of my instructors (got two) actually pointed this out on several occasions (centering and cornering) but even though he noticed it he was unable to give me some proper tips. I drive on the right side (so I'm on the left side in the vehicle) and I'm a bit skeptical of right leg being in the center of the road, but I'm gonna try this out during my next lesson. I've done 10 out of 15 sessions and recently it feels to me like I'm supposed to learn how to drive by myself and the instructor is just there to stop me from causing an accident and point out stuff I'm doing badly. I'm really glad I came across your channel because you actually give tips and how to fix driving mistakes and you don't just point them out. Keep up the amazing work!
Your not alone in this I to feel like at times my instructor points out my faults but dosent offer a tip on how to correct it just exspect me to know how
I just hit my second curb today and thank you for the right knee rule (I have a left driver seat car). I was more focused on the position of the front of the car, but the right knee balances that perfectly. I’ll be focusing on putting the front out and then moving my knee to the center!

Just came back from my fourth lesson and watched this. It makes so much sense now why I was apparently taking the corners too wide - I'd been staring at that curb point on the left the whole time! I just know my instructor wants me to "look at the curb and stick to it" but I'm going to mentally think of it the way explained in this video. It's like an optical illusion almost with feeling you're much closer to the curb than you are. Anyways, thank you - these videos are GOAT

Handy tip, will try it on next lesson, but not noticed it being a problem before. I think I just know where the bend is before reaching it so don't need to look at it while I'm looking for passing cars.

Thanks soooo much for your wonderful explanation and extremely clear articulation. When I pass my test I will let you know because you are a big part of it!
Fkn why all instructors not like you. Since a kids i follow statistics for all solutions as you give perfect examples why i am going to other side of the road while turning. Why no one teach me not to look at curb and focus on the middle of turning road
I'm about to take my licensing exam tomorrow. Your videos helped me a lot, even better than what my driving school instructor told me over the whole session. Would love to see you drive on busier roads though like in Vietnam, Philippines or India.
In my city in NA there are a lot of junctions with two left turning lanes (equivalent to right turns in the UK) that will have a dotted line to help guide parallel traffic into their respective lanes after the turn. It is the best place to demonstrate how bad many people are at judging their trajectory through a turn, as I often see drivers cross over the line and honk at eachother in these sorts of features.
THe dude in the first Road Test was so fast with commands, and i did needed more experience. I just knew when I made that right turn I failed. My problem was seeing traffic both ways before making he turn. I had to ease and it just looks bad on top of that WIDE TURN. Basically it was my blind spot when turning at a stop sign.
It's not just learners making this mistake but experienced drivers as well. Some are 3 metres out from the left hand curb lines and overshoot the corner by up to 2 metres. I have been abused by some who believe they are not in the wrong. Fair enough for a bus or truck driver to make a wide turn but not for a car.
So very interesting 👍,, that will also help with "park on the left" during the test. I hit the kerb twice in a two driving test attempts before!!!!! I dont know why i find it hard to park on the left properly without problems.
Wow, I wish I watched this earlier (even though I have watched many of your videos) as I failed my test today because of this. 6 minor faults and swinging out wide (even though I wasn’t going to hit the red car). Very lovely teaching.
PLZ PLZ PLZ RICHARD can you plz do a video on how to do right turns at a give way where the junction is plagued with parked cars and its also a very very busy road. This channel has everything I need!! Very informative with everything explained perfectly. Started myy driving lessons on Monday. Thank you so much for all the help.
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot. Good luck with your lessons 🤞
Hello great video. I find when I look directly at where I am going, it takes care of itself rather than worrying if you will hit the kerb or not.
Definitely do what works for you and yes, worrying about the curb rarely helps anyone.
Thanks soooo much for your wonderful explanation and extremely clear articulation. When I pass my test I will let you know because you are a big part of it!
4:27 "...they stop worrying about the box, and they start worrying about them" sounds like good advice for life in general.
Fkn why all instructors not like you. Since a kids i follow statistics for all solutions as you give perfect examples why i am going to other side of the road while turning. Why no one teach me not to look at curb and focus on the middle of turning road
you are the best trainer. I've learned alot from you because your explanation is very clear.
Richard, thank you so so so so much for your videos. They are brilliant... Thank you... You are way better than my driving instructor... Thank you
I'm about to take my licensing exam tomorrow. Your videos helped me a lot, even better than what my driving school instructor told me over the whole session. Would love to see you drive on busier roads though like in Vietnam, Philippines or India.
Thank you, I hope the test went well.
I have my test tomorrow and this is my worry. I hope I remember these points. I watched your video before too while taking lessons , it did help.
Good luck tomorrow!
Your explanation made so much sense to me and it helped me big time. Thank you.
My man you are a good instructor, i need to learn more from you, using a manual car.
Supper super inspiring instruction. never thought that although I got a licence in my home country and planning to get one in the UK. Super thx!!
I'm not learning to drive in the UK but this has still been extremely helpful :D
Your videos are so Helpful.😭 I'm a new driver and I get nervous and overthink sometimes..
Many new drivers do, try to accept you may do things wrong and take away some of the pressure.
This is brill. I'm rubbish at left hand turns, this is very helpful. Thanks!
So very interesting 👍,, that will also help with
"park on the left" during the test. I hit the kerb twice in a two driving test attempts before!!!!! I dont know why i find it hard to park on the left properly without problems.
Check out on of my early videos for how to park well near the curb.
@@ConquerDriving Will do, thank you 👍
Before I used to hitting curbs no w I'm quite good thanks for this video wish you are my instructor
I'm happy to help 😊
thank you for explaining what my driving instructor never did
Wow, I wish I watched this earlier (even though I have watched many of your videos) as I failed my test today because of this. 6 minor faults and swinging out wide (even though I wasn’t going to hit the red car). Very lovely teaching.
I'm sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck with your next test.
@@ConquerDriving Thanks so much. Can I ask if you do Sidcup driving centre and automatic transmission?
PLZ PLZ PLZ RICHARD can you plz do a video on how to do right turns at a give way where the junction is plagued with parked cars and its also a very very busy road. Help im terrified in these situations. ONLY YOUR EXPERTISE AN EXPLANATION CAN HELP, AS IVE SEEN ALL YR VIDEOS AND YOU SIR DESERVE AN AWARD!
