Had i been siting at the board the day vocals for this were recorded, i think i would have sh1t myself.
Having heard Rage before this album, I just about sh1t myself the first time i heard this song as an teenager.
To this day, the album & live versions of this song still brings a tear to my eye hearing Geoff hit the highs AND sustain a daimn-near perfect vibrato on them.
I cant honestly think of any other male vocal performance that amazes me like this one does; even after 40 years of listening to rock, metal, prog (although Roy Kahn has a few performances that are just about "there" for me).
I've been listening to this song since around 1986 and have heard it thousands and thousands of times but never like this. I just saw Geoff live about 2 months ago in Buffalo and he sounded absolutely phenomenal! His vocals took a dip a few years back but he's somehow gotten his voice back into amazing shape. Literally brought tears to my eyes. If you have the chance to see him live, GO!

Thanks for posting this. I am really getting into these. After checking out some Dio and Rob Halford vocal only tracks I realized I had to look up Geoff Tate but there are only a few. I'd love to hear one for Gonna Get Close To You among many others

I would love to hear it raw without the cleaned-up tuning. He doesn’t need it, hearing it live in 86’, it was amazing. The little nuances lost make it much less enjoyable.

@@ChrisP3000x i understand that but when i tried to play a long the music didnt seem to line up perfectly. But it is all about the vocals so its all good
