  • "How would you compare the Lexus 5.0 to the Coyote 5.0?" This question from Daniel Sherrill was asked in the "LIVE Car Talk + Q&A Ep. 53" and I thought it was a great question worth reposting for those that didn't see the livestream. I mean, the aftermarket support for the coyote kinda makes it the obvious winner.

Got some spam bots in your midst, Matt.
Nevertheless, my vote will _always_ be for the Coyote V8.
After all, my very first car was a 1968 Mustang Restomod. Her fastest run was 11.71@121mph. Mind you, fuel efficiency was a paltry ~9mpg or so. Then again, gas was approximately .98 cents a gallon back then but I digress.
In the end she cost me four girlfriends, two and a half jobs and a COPIOUS amount of money for a teenager back in high school.
And boy do I miss her dearly!
    Stay classy my friend.

      @@benchmark3332 Quite the contrary.
I disapprove of the new S650 Mustang. Other than the fact that Ford was bold enough to keep a front engine, rear wheel drive, V8 with a *_standard_* transmission in the model lineup. To which I commend them for their efforts.
However, nothing about this new generation screams Mustang to me other than the badging. FWIW, I think this new Mustang has lost all of the heritage we have grown to love.
What was once a drivers car is now a gamers car.
      Stay classy my friend.
      EDITED for grammar.

The Coyote V8 is fantastic, but something about a Japanese V8 seems audacious and timeless.

Both are amazing engines. Personally I think the Lexus 5.0 sounds better, it has a European scream to it that I like. The coyote is more of a deep rumble & a bit raspier towards the top. Coyote is the easy choice if your plan is power, those things make ridiculous power if you just look at them the wrong way.

Not raggin on the Lexus 5.0 because to me it’s just a Japanese version of the coyote, but thier is no evidence to prove that the Lexus is any more reliable than the coyote. If anything Thiers more proof to the opposite simply because Thiers so many coyotes out thier compared to the Lexus being far less production numbers. Nothing more than the inflated myth that Toyota builds the most reliable vehicles, ask some new tundra or Tacoma owners how the feel about reliability when Thiers been trucks needing new short blocks under 20k miles or tfl breaking the front diff the first time out in the mountains. All manufacturers can have good and bad, tired of the same ol “Ford sucks cause my buddy’s mom had one”

I love the refinement of Lexus, but you can't beat those power gains even at similar reliability (although I would argue Lexus is a little better)
