  • With Vertigo Comics officially closed, a lot of original series are going with it. But one series in particular, American Vampire, is returning in 2020. In this video we take a look back at American Vampire and its sequel, Second Cycle, to determine why it's so inimitably good.
American Vampire is owned by Vertigo Entertainment and DC Comics, and was created by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque.

For this to happen, the director for the Boys and the special effects artists for Grimm, need to team up.

So American Vampire is a series I started but didn't feel compelled to continue. I loved the first volume, I read it in trades, but the second one didn't compel me to keep going. I was disappointed that it didn't hit me as hard as the first one, but after seeing this video I've decided to give the series another chance. Thank you

is it weird how the Gray trader variant looks kinda like the predator ?
I mean , the parasites aside , its the ones like Skinner and the little girl .
but at the same time they also seem to resemble the giant Bat creatures from Genndy Tartovsky's Primal

Why do you say Henry dies at the end of Volume 1? He does not even show up in volume 1 and is still alive in volume 2. Is your numbering different?

    • @ForEveryKindofGeek

My bad, I might've muddled some of the terms. I referred to the first collection as "volume 1," and Second Cycle as "volume 2," although I think that first book also has its own volumes.

It is NOT great at all. I don't even understand this level of glazing.
American Vampire:1976 was terrible, for all that build up and consistent horror tone the last 2 volumes have set since first starting in 2012, the final installment to this really nice franchise was ruined with so much inconsistencies and retcons.
First off Jim Book being a bad guy and killing his wife was the most dumbest and laziest plot twist of all time, not to mention it never dives into how Alibena and Felicia got estranged.
Then Mimiteh comes back being a girl boss. Felicia jihads herself along with the president and bixby. Gus was basically completely useless to the plot, both him and Mimiteh just what conveniently escape the lair of The Beast by running out? Its fucking hilarious how that even made it into the final draft.
Scott Snyder is truly overrated sometimes when he makes really bad writing decisions like these.
There's so much rich areas of the lore they made that they didn't bother using or used poorly. Such as The Ancients and The Firsts. Not to mention it is infuriating how often they start a new chapter with a flashback. The final big bad boss just basically being a dumb demon from Tenacious D was abysmally shit.
Even the Anthology series was horrible and Gene Bunting died 2 different ways lmao. It was just all over the place for a series that realistically should've only taken less than 5 years to finish.
Overall one of the biggest disappointments as far as standalone comics go.
