With all these giant monsters and kaiju fights it just makes you forget this was a series about vampires at some point. I always thought of Skinner as a scumbag and even though he is a good character in the 1976 run I just can't see him as a redeemed character, he inflicted a lot of pain and anguish to people who didn't deserve it and it didn't feel as he was doing the good thing for the right reasons, not that doing the good thing is a good plot that should always be enforced in every story but in my opinion Skinner was not it, I was hoping Pearl or Gus had a bigger part in this instead of Skinner. Anyways, good work Danny! Love your series, even though I was not a big fan of the recent American Vampires story, you always make it worth the ride for the narration.
Seriously and the weird like immediate romance of Pearl and Skinner completely undermines the fact that for more than half of this series she loved Henry. And here she is sucking the face of the man who tried to kill the love of her life multiple times, oh and also that Pearl cheated on Henry with Skinner while Henry was literally on his death bed. Am I supposed to like either of them?
Training in the heart of Russia with 70 other war-harden men, but we always find time to settle in and watch your videos. We love your work and please keep them coming.
just finished the series. snyder took a break for so long that he didnt recognize the characters he made anymore, most especially pearl. some of her dialogue and her facial reactions just didnt feel like it was her. her role’s so small in this as well, and her conflict-less relationship with skinner was not natural. i always thought one of them will die by the other’s hands, so they’d have a dramatic final battle to the death on the beach under the moon or something like that, but the ending was bonkers. it went all looney toons! howd we go from pearl jones vs hattie hargrove to that final battle is ridiculous. travula fell flat. travis kidd wouldnt have done that. jim book reveal from issue 34 was great tho!! but i dunno. scott just knew he needed to finish the series so he did, but as a whole it felt rushed and shock value-centric that many details didnt add up.
I actually think the James Book twist was worse of all. It completely neutered his painful and dramatic wish for death out of the hatred of being a vampire. Then you're telling me decades later she decides to besmirch the final wish of her true love because she was lonely? More like Because Snyder needed a twist
@@ABlackEnderman hmm that’s fair.. i guess the james book part kinda had some build up from the end of #34 so it’s not too crazy, but him returning does undermine the his death..
Great video as always. Shame I can't say the same for how this story ended. I used to really love American Vampire, but the latter volumes dropped tremendously in story telling quality.
I can you're completely over it at this point LOL. I started listening the other day and i'm incredibly happy to have found your channel. It really jumped with all the space stuff. I prefer the earlier volumes myself.
Recently found your channel. Love the content you provide. Thank you. Came here for Y the Last Man and currently enjoying American Vampire. Preacher is next. Any plans for Fables?
I want to do Fables. I just know when I start it, people will want me to do it all. And it’s 20+ volumes, so I’ve been avoiding it. I love Fables tho, so I might do the first few at least.
Snyder, sadly, seems to have two modes of writing. When he is working small-scale, he is a pro. Everything is not too thick with info, it's focused, neat, and leaves few questions open - if any - but there is still little space left for you to fill things in yourself, or for a potential continuation. Everything is great. When he is writing large-scale, though, he immediatley starts believing himself to be far smarter than he is. Not calling the man dumb by any chance - he just seems to stretch himself thin and his ambition outreaches his capabilities. That is when we move move to Asspullvile, with Snyder as mayor. Suddenly things are either far more predictable than one would expect of a supposed master writer (and again, not saying he isn't one, just not always), or he tries to pull the rug out from under the readers' feet waay to often for the sake of it. And then everything becomes sort of meh. Case in point, along with this story - the Batman Endgame run. It was complete nonsense from start to finish. From Batman having his classic 'contingencies againt the JL, especially Superman', which, in this case, included MINIATURISED RED SUNS WORN AS KNUCKLES BY HIS ROBO-BAT SUIT TO FIGHT SUPERMAN (not sure, but I am sort of convinced their mere presence in close proximity to one-another should have melted the planet), as well as kryptonite mouthwash, which he spat into jokerised Superman's face (cuz he knew he'd get killed up close in personal, huh, he's that good of a detective, I am sure), to the whole 'Joker is many Jokers, or is he immortal - guess we'll never know'... Then again, this just might be the result of any story going on for too long - at some point the writers just start reaching for shit and semi-loosely tacking it together with older concepts. Personally, I think the series should have ended with either Ghost war, or Blacklist, AT THE LATEST. :/
Wow I can't believe the series just got more intense right at the very end because Dracula Wes Craven's Dracula Jason Scott Lee became the new Dracula after he killed Dracula they don't even know his true origins like what you said and you don't even know who he was I don't know who he was but I love How the way you put it all together and it is funny that the bad guy becoming the good guy is like another suicide squad all over again meanwhile villains come and go but heroes live on forever thank you skinner sweet But very much thank you for narrating the most perfect story ever made thank you again
was a great series but you are very right about the final chapter! i’m always curious when stories evolve like this, if the writer planned that direction from the start. the ending really reminds me of how ‘promised neverland’ increasingly got larger than the original themes, disconnecting the audience from central characters. would still highly recommend the book.
This is the first time I think I completely disagree with you bro I loved every bit of that volume I thought they went out exactly as they should have it was awesome.
I just like the earlier more subtle volumes more. Skinner and James literally turn into giant Kaiju’s and battle at the end, lol, ridiculous. But still this was an entertaining collection of action and craziness.
@@dannymalt Lmao. I can't believe you called them Kaiju just now. But yeah you're right about it being over the top yes. I loved it though. Sometimes you have to form Voltron in order to kill Geedora mayne.
No lie this whole volume just feels like a final mission in a tabletop rpg, botched plans, hail marys, long shots, random injecrions for possible power rhat could and do backfire. Happy ending by the skin of the teeth
Still a little weird that pearl cheated with skinner literally the day her husband died and is now romantically involved with the man that has spent the past hundred years trying to kill them
Wow first 2 mins read my mind. I thought I was the only one. I have read every issue but second cycle got too big and I forgot what happen and now I'm reading 1976 and I'm fucking lost. It's a mess
Let's hope if this gets adapted into a show they won't delude into such convoluted messiness like what this comic series became, so fingers crossed it'll be a hit like The Boys with how the show's superior to the comics!
@Dannymalt your narration makes me a big softy. I cried and laughed when you read the Skinner Sweet letter to Pearl. 😭😭Keep up the great work

I agree with your take. They hyped Gus up a bit this volume, and he really didn’t do anything, kind of humorous how little he mattered in the end.

At work right now, can’t wait to get off from work and watch this full video. Keep up the awesome work!!
You popped up in my recommendations and now I'm a fan of your channel and your covering of sweet tooth. Nice work man.
Thanks. Glad to hear RUclips recommended me to some new people. Getting new subs always feels like a battle.
Wasnt expecting this so soon but it's a good way to start the day

Suggestion for you next video Hellblazer or Animal man by Grant Morrison
Animal Man ❤
Animal Man by Morrison 👍👍
I’ve read Jeff Lemire’s Animal Man, but still have to check out Grant Morrison’s run.
Animal man sounds interesting. I've never heard of it
totally digging your content man. I look forward to your vids. You should do vertigo comics hellblazer if you can
So this series basically did what fast and furious did it just completely changed the movies as it went on

Love it, thanks Danny 😊 typing this text while listening on buds

@@dannymalt that would be epic...in more ways than one! How about The Invisibles? Or Promethea?
Thank God you're finally done with sandman, really enjoyed the American vampire run though.

Yup I agree. I love me some smaller scale Snyder, and dislike the Grant Morrison big story Snyder.
FINALLY the great one has returned to RUclips let's all give Danny a loud and good HELL YEAH
Ur welcome 😜

Yessssssss finally 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
You're the man Danny!
Getting addicted can't Wait for next week for whatever it is
American Vampire > Sandman ... im so glad to see another story today
Hahahaha....I love mission impossible n that face thing...ah ur hilariouse

I like the final issue and I'm gonna give this volume an 8/10
The beast with James book reminds of Trigon from DC
Oh shit I’ll have to watch this video after read this!! It’s about time Snyder finished the series!
Thanks Danny!!!
This went the anime route. Meaning it got crazier and more over-the-top as it went along.
cc: promised neverland. a perfect example of this
@@sulibreaks Yup. I loved the series, but towards the end, it lost most of what made it great.
if my life were a graphic novel, I'd want you to cover the fuck out of it! always doing a damn good job, Danny boy 👍😊
So Felecia and James book doesn't greet?
No lie this whole volume just feels like a final mission in a tabletop rpg, botched plans, hail marys, long shots, random injecrions for possible power rhat could and do backfire. Happy ending by the skin of the teeth
Jumped the shark eh?
I think The Second Cycle (Vol 7 & 8) is when I started enjoying the direction less. But still fun.
love it
Still a little weird that pearl cheated with skinner literally the day her husband died and is now romantically involved with the man that has spent the past hundred years trying to kill them
I know. What the fuck is Snyder smoking?
damn I finally got to read the end . It was good .
Gotta say not too bad of an ending kinda wish it could go on forever but sadly it has to end
Can you do a videos about tech jacket
That's why they show up on the train
Danny, you missed the opportunity to call it Beast Book.
Yeah that’s a good. Got to love alliteration.
Hi there I’m asking you to review a comic book or graphic novel called Gladstone School for World Conquerors
What do you think of Y the last man getting a TV show
I’m excited, the trailer looks really good.
The end fight is totally Attack on Titan LOL.
One more thing I hope you get the message thank you
Lol finally it ends … jeez in my twenties waiting for Scott to end this
Hey dannymalt how you know about godzilla you're a comic book man dude
Movies were my first love. I used to work at Blockbuster video in high school.
Am I the only one that thinks that skinner looks like sabortooth
Did you see the y: the last man tv show trailer?
Yup. I thought it looked really good. Unlike Jupiter’s Legacy and Sweet Tooth, I don’t see anything that worries me.
This whole story was ridiculously dumb and cliched but i thoroughly enjoyed it
Pretty good ending.
Wow first 2 mins read my mind. I thought I was the only one. I have read every issue but second cycle got too big and I forgot what happen and now I'm reading 1976 and I'm fucking lost. It's a mess

Kaiju vampires. Okay.
Spoiler.
Scott made Dracula a jobber.
Dracula was totally buried.
A terrible end to an Excellent series
Well that was disapointed, to vampire to lovecraft to kaiju, plus a lot plot convinince and armor, a very rushed series finale
So Hobbs died for nothing 😑
I think you should do sin city next
Marvl or Dc zombies please
Each new volume was worse than the last, last two vplumes i didn't really like, too cringe
