Tesla Cybertruck Review: Oh Dear, It's Here

  • Let’s test drive and review the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck!
The Cybertruck is brand new, and this truck is a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model. It’s from the Foundation Series, which is an optional package that includes a few extra features and an earlier delivery day than other Cybertruck drivers. Foundation Series models are the first to be delivered, and this one only has 85 miles on it.
The Cybertruck debuted in 2019, and mass production began recently. Its release date got pushed back a few times, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk delivered the first trucks in late 2023.
There are currently three Cybertrucks listed for sale via reservation. The base rear-wheel-drive model starts at $61,000, and the mid-tier AWD one in this video starts at $80,000. The top model, the Cyberbeast, starts at $100,000 and will have an estimated 845 horsepower.
This AWD truck has an automaker-estimated 340 miles of range, 600 horsepower, 4.1-second 0 to 60 time, and 11,000-pound towing capacity. The truck has four-wheel-steer and steer-by-wire, which makes its yoke-shaped steering wheel much more livable. It also has one big windshield wiper - not wipers - and adaptive air suspension.
The IIHS, America’s big nonprofit crash-test rating firm, has yet to test the Cybertruck. But safety experts have concerns about how the pedestrians and other vehicles will fare in a collision with the truck, no matter how much Elon Musk talks about how safe he thinks the truck is. We’ll discuss that more in the video.
We’ll also talk about the Cybertruck’s history (including that wild reveal event from 2019), performance, special features, interior, driving dynamics and how it rides, outside attention, and why people either love it or think it’s a disaster. Driving the Cybertruck in 2024 feels like driving a Lamborghini; everyone stares and pulls their phones out, and you feel like a rolling commercial for electric-car excess. I’d love to try the truck off-road, but we’ll have to try to do that in a future video.
Thanks for watching my RUclips channel. Enjoy the drive!

People have strong opinions about Elon Musk, because he promotes white supremacy and does tech support for Nazis on Twitter. By failing to even mention this as a concern to buyers, you are showing which side you are on. Disgusting.

    Great review as always!
Loved the background music, especially the piano.
I was actually impressed when the large metal balls didn’t fully go through the CyberTruck windows as I would feel safer in that than my current cars that would not have fared nearly as well.
I really appreciated the context for this review, best example was that of the ZR-1 also not meeting European standards for pedestrian safety.
And I think for a die hard NASCAR enthusiasts, your score was … very generous.
    So kudos on that.
Also I really really appreciated that you talked about the vehicle as it actually IS … and nothing beyond that.
    Thanks so much 😎👊🏻👍🏻

I'm firmly on the "dislike it" camp but appreciate the very balanced review of the car you had in front of you, while being respectful of someone else's property and not going crazy with some stunts/tests.
Being more on the introverted side, and living in the desert, the shortcomings you present are all I needed to hear so as to swear off the car, ignoring my lack of money to buy it lol. Also, living in Mexico, I expect a certain type of crowd with lots of money and a penchant to show off to flock to it...if it's off road competent enough to actually get to the fields they live/work in with the ehm "high risk agriculture" and the associated living arrangements needed.

I watched the Lexus IS 500 review recently and thought “I really hope Alanis reviews the Cybertruck soon” and voila! What an incredible review this was. I will say I have heard conflicting info about the crumple zones, in some of the engineering interviews they showed the front gigacasting and pointed out where the crush cans would mount, also the front gigacasting itself is designed to crumple predictably in a way to absorb the energy from a crash, very interested to see independent crash testing for Cybertruck in the future though. Anyways, fantastic review!

Such a fun and informative review! I think all of your points are fair and precisely what needs to be said. The head room is impressive. Looking from the outside you think it won't be spacious but it is! Totally surprised me. I didn't see if the owner had the second rearview mirror activated on the touchscreen or not. If so does that help much more compared to the teeny tiny lil rear view mirror in your humble opinion? Curious like you, why Tesla didn't put a 360 overhead view cam on it. For the price most GM vehicles do. That just baffles me with it's blind spots and not so good rear view out the back window.

Awesome truck! It has about 100 features that no other vehicles have, would have been cool to list them on the screen. Also this truck cant be stolen if you use the pin code feature, and comes standard eith lojack, you can see the location at all times using the phone app. Totally theft proof, and mostly bullet proof. Also has a wade mode and double locking diffs. The steering has a comfort mode which makes it feel lighter, and you probably had it in chill mode vs standard mode, hence the heavy feeling pedal. You glossed over that the rear screen can play Netflix on RUclips, and video games with Bluetooth controllers. And the amazing sound system is better than any vehicle ever made, including Bentley and Bhughatti. Overall, I think it was a fair review.

The more I think about it, it’s just the modern day version of when the PT Cruiser came out. So many loved and hated it, articles about the design and such. I’ve seen so many videos and reviews on this already, and saw one in person. I’m very indifferent on this particular truck, but this (and other fast & heavy trucks like EV Hummer) seems so dangerous to me. Not just because of the angles, but just how massive and quick this truck is; especially in person.

@@kylereese4822 I was referring more to the reception of it by people, not so much the design itself. Also there are a lot of “wedge” shape cars that used to be popular in car design decades ago. For instance, the TVR Tasmin or many cars/concept cars designed by Giugiaro. I think the only thing unique about this is that it’s a pickup truck, allegedly. Some of the tests online make it seem like it isn’t even that good in the useful side of things, but that’s beside the point.

Never watched your reviews before and thought it was incredibly well done. Loved the music, simple editing that isn't over the top or distracting but I do wish more people who review this vehicle would report on the misses.
It seems like every reviewer had honeymoon googles on with this car when it actually misses in a bunch of key areas that were initially promised (for example, gas less payload, towing and range as initially promised.
Also, FSD doesn't even work on this thing...
I don't think autopilot does either, for "reasons" but yes, please believe Elon Musk when he says he's talking to at least "one major OEM" who wants to license FSD, even though they apparently can't even plug-and-play with it among their entire vehicle lineup in house.
That said, great review of a vehicle I hate.

    • @AlanisKing
      @AlanisKing  24 дня назад

Thanks for watching and being so kind! I actually did the narrative intentionally, and considered putting all the missed promises in there (instead of just a few examples, like I did). I've seen the Cybertruck videos out there and know a lot of the missed promises have been covered to death. Also, it's very common for Tesla to miss promises, like the windows in the debut!
If I did all the missed promises, the video would've been 50 minutes, and I felt it was best to focus on features and driving dynamics (with a few missed promises added in) in order to differentiate from what people have seen already. It was a conscious decision, and I think it was the right one - there's so much back and forth with the missed promises that the pace of the video would have droned on with all of them, and I don't know that it would've added enough to justify for that

My 2 cents, before a reviewer looks at a product, set some expectation first. The design of this truck is to standout, different than anything else on the road. It's exceeded the expectation. Not saying it's good/bad because the look is subjective. If you don't want to standout, don't want attention, get a Corolla , there are millions on the road and no one cares. Not going to comment on other things she said except the 360 view camera, I agree this feature should be there.

The Tesla CEO also reiterated on Tuesday that the Cybertruck will have bulletproof steel panels and there will even be an option for people to purchase bulletproof glass for the vehicle, though that variant will pose a major usability tradeoff.
"You can make anything bulletproof if you want, but the glass has to be very thick for be bulletproof, so it can't go up and down," Musk said, adding that the bulletproof windows will be immobile.

He said you could have bullet proof glass in any vehicle if you wanted but they would be so think they would be immobile. He also said in the CT you just have to duck i.e. what he did not say was that they would put bullet proof glass in. He never said we will put bullet proof glass in CT. The steel is bullet proof to small calibre low velocity rounds as a by product of the material used not as a deliberate design feature.

Rear wheel steering looks nice for negotiating tight spaces, and the drive by wire system seems interesting. They’re already rusting and depreciating in value. I’m not a collector nor can I keep it long enough for it to become an interesting investment for those collector type buyers since I have nowhere to store a car/cars for that many years…. I’ll pass.
