    I kept generator for any failures. I did not think anything would happen to the solar. However something did and it was really warm. It took me 4 hours to gather parts and enact the repair. The generator definitely allowed me to not have to freak out when my system went down.

    • @TheFlyingHens
      @TheFlyingHens  2 года назад

      Yes, a backup generator is a great idea. However, I would rather have a portable generator than a built in one. That way I could utilize it's functionality with and away from the RV, if necessary. I'd love to get the several hundred pounds off the rig, as well.

    I just love what you have done to this Rig. I’m so interested in buying one. The solar system is awesome! I love that you can live off grid. How much did all these upgrade cost you in the end and what other upgrades would you consider doing on this model. Thank you for the great tour and explanation of how this rig operates. It was very helpful!

    • @TheFlyingHens
      @TheFlyingHens  2 года назад

      It depends on how elaborate you go with the solar system and if you can DIY it. You can DIY a large, off-grid system starting around 8K. Otherwise, it'll start around twice that. If I could find a way to link all 3 grey tanks together, that would be my only upgrade at the current moment. I'd love to be able to utilize the 30+ gallon tank in the back that doesn't fill up much while boondocking, since it's for brushing teeth and hand washing.

This is the best setup I have ever seen. We have two large Harley's. We want to bring them with us when we sell this house and live in an RV. My husband has so many tools. That toy hauler would make a great garage area in the back for his tools and the bikes. I'm just drooling over this. Thanks so much for sharing. • @TheFlyingHens

      Thank you. This would be good for a couple of Harley's. Just double check the weight of all the tools and bikes. The garage floor can handle 3 or maybe 3.5k pounds. Of course, if you max out the garage, you are at the gross weight of the trailer. I don't think ya'll would be that heavy though. The couch brand is Allure Furniture.

    I love everything you guys did. We also have a 4007 and I'm definitely going to be "borrowing" some of your ideas. Can you please tell me where you got your wallpaper for the backsplash above the table and the shiplap wallpaper? Also, how did you mount the wood accent pieces around all the framing? Did you take the couch out to put the wallpaper on the slide out or just work around it? Thanks for any info you can share. We are a family of 6 and don't do full time but hope to one day. Bellonwheels!

    • @TheFlyingHens
      @TheFlyingHens  2 года назад +1

      The wallpaper was from Amazon and the shiplap wallpaper is from Target. The new wood trim is installed with just a finish nailer and the top piece has some construction adhesive to help. We removed the couch to do all the paint (since we sprayed it) and wallpaper around it. There are screws through the front and back frame into the floor.

    • @TheFlyingHens
      @TheFlyingHens  2 года назад

      The WiFi is an AT&T sim card in a Pepwave BR1 Mk2 modem/router. I use a Poynting directional antenna. It has worked well, except for 1 or two times when we were so remote there wasn't a shred of signal for 20 minutes. The antenna does a good job of picking up the signal when other ways do not. I don't think there is anything that is truly unlimited anymore for data. Our plan is limited to 500 GB or so.

      @TheFlyingHens  Год назад

      Yes, we have had issues. We have been very open about everything that we have lived and struggled through. However, across all manufacturers, there have been units that have had a lot of problems. They are all built with the same parts, from the same part manufacturer, and assembled by the same workers in an industry with high overturn from company to company. I would say that HL, Forest River, Keystone, etc. all have their issues. I'm relatively pleased with how we have been taken care of by HL, though.

    How did you change the side couches in the toy hauler to be a bed frame, is it something available from heartland or did you make it yourself?

    • @TheFlyingHens
      @TheFlyingHens  2 года назад

      So, when we were up in Indiana at Heartland, we picked up a new bed platform and brackets. However, the brackets were not quite right, so I drilled a few holes and put Grade 8 through-bolts in to secure it. It's probably stronger than ever. The couches are very easy to take out and with the proper lower bracket, it would be easy to install a new platform. You could easily built a platform by skinning a flat 2 x 4 frame with 1/8" plywood and adding metal angle iron. Weld some feet onto angle iron and you have the necessary parts to attach the brackets.

      Thank you! Yes, things break. Imagine your house is in a rolling earthquake at 70 mph. I am handy and fix most everything pretty easily because most things are small repairs like loose trim or water fitting. Regularly checking those items prevents a bigger problem like actual water leaks or major breaks. We did have a leaf spring (major component of the trailer suspension) break the other week. I had a repair shop fix that.
