I want to say, although this video is old I didn't figure it would help me. But I'm so happy right now. I haven't been able to fly sideways every since I got an update about 6 months ago and couldn't figure why. Well your video answered it. Simply toggle off sideways flight from the safety settings while in bypass. Can't thank you enough. It's horrible not having that ability👍👍👍👍liked

For me yes the advanced gimbal controls were huge but what I'm most excited about, I don't think you mentioned, the ability to save waypoints in the task library from a hyper-lapse. This opens huge creative possibilities. Imagine how now how easy it will be to refly the exact same path at different times of day, different season, ect. Huge!

Just picked up my MA2, batteries charging! The new Zoom function should make it possible to execute the "Vertigo " effect. That is, push in/out on the throttle while doing the opposite digital move simultaneously. Can't wait to try it 👍 Liked and SUBed.
Hi Ian, I was wondering if you use any form of tablet when you fly your drones? I would like to get an iPad (8") with a cellular option to use rather than my iPhone. Just wondered if you have any thoughts and recommendations on this. So loving your vlogs, they are really helping out a newbie, an an old aged newbie for that matter. Thanks in advance . Tony
I don't use a tablet but there's no doubt it woudl make things clearer. Once you go above 7-8" screen you need a special aftermarket tablet holder, althouth there are loads very cheap on eBay that will do the job nicely. Just a point; you don't actually need a celular tablet; you can downlaod maps in advance and it just needs GPS. And of course you could use your mobile phone a s ahot spot for the tablet.... Excellent discussion and visual display. You actually talked about the individual gimbal and yaw settings and showed the changes in real time. One point. If you are actually flying VLOS then you should never have a problem with RTH battery depletion. If on the other hand, you are flying 2000 to 4000 feet, then you may have a problem. But this is not VLOS. In short, a very good short video.
Don’t know if anybody’s mentioned it but you don’t need to go back into settings to check and turn and turn off the side way control you can tap on the screen on the left on the green side we control and it will turn on and off
Nice succinct video. I just got the mavic air 2 with smart controller and I love it! I would point out that some of us like the digital zoom just for briningig objects in closer to see what they are and not for post production cropping. :) So in that sense it's very useful!
Great vid! Slightly off topic, I suppose: when I fiddle with the gimbal wheel or even “stearing” the camera with a finger around the UI...whats the easiest/fastest way to reset gimbal orientation? Thanks😀👍
They need to rework the video menu, I have to click to many icons to get what I want. You should be able to hold down the photo/video button or right trigger for some short cuts. Great video as usual.
I didn’t think I would like the zoom but it’s pretty cool. I made a short video on my site to test it. I was amazed at how smooth it was. It really works well. I may not use it a lot but it’s nice to have
Great video, very clear information & great footage. Any chance you can do a video on looking at previous flights as I tried DJI Assistant 2 & it doesn’t seem to do much at all. I have looked at very other products but they all seem to want you to upload & one even wanting to have my DJI username & password! All a bit too Big Brother. Some charge for the service & it all seems to be something that should be included in the Mavic Air 2 package. Basically what I want is to have access to my own data & to learn from my mistakes. Viewing your videos gives me confidence & things to try out, thank you.

A really useful video - thanks. Like you, not a fan of digital zoom. I use a Nikon D850 for stills work and had some concerns about the Mavic Air 2’s ability, resolution wise. It’s not the D850, (not even an iPhone SE) but it’s good - I’m impressed. The gimbal guidance from you is very helpful too - ta.
@Ian , I have seen reports that some EU purchasers are not getting the Air2 with Airsense etc, from a DJI forum thread: If it is ending ...1N it is the original non Airsense equipped batch. If it is ending ...3W it is is a new version equipped with Airsense. Can you shed any light perhaps in a video ? I have been holding off till I know the situation.

Thanks to DJI, dolly zoom is possible now, and I'm just an unskilled noob. Those techniques make me nauseous personally, but my are they powerful if used judiciously.
When doing a custom adjustment of Yaw rotation speed and Yaw smoothness, does this have any adverse effects with any of the anti avoidance systems of the air 2 and does the air 2 also use these custom adjustment settings when avoiding objects?
Not at all. The custom yaw adjustments relate to the stick initiated movement. Obstacle avoidance tends to be sideways movement whilst facing the same forward direction, not rotational movement. 👍🏻
Hi Ian ,, Ian ,, as radio ham , my drone has the antennas showing and the phone at the rear ,, your phone is forward , cant see antennas unless the phone holder is part of the antenna , the phone has a processor , and in my head the processor is resting on the antenna ,, struggling as radio ham of the RF of antenna and the processer of phone interfering of the antenna could you explain this new way of DJI technology please ,, and to finish thanks for the video ,, and as subscriber enjoy your video's stay safe
Yes; this is a paradox of the new remote controller for the Air 2. Previous models had the antennae unobscured and flexible to adjust their direction. The new remtoe has them incorporated and places the phone in the way. That said, the reception is always rock-solid....
Itwbea new channel. But I'm off to Scotland this week for 2 weeks so will be gaining more fotoage but won't have any time to post it for the moment! So the new channel will be a project for autumn.... :)
Also not mentioned the way point flight program has increased in way point you now can program 40+ way points for the drone & save them for next time.. side note! android uk/europe are ok to update.. however I've a iPad & no updates are shown, for the latest OR the previous update, this has also been mentioned via afew other ppl

Yet, I have been on the fence about purchasing the MA2 due to its size so I can more easily carry it on cycling adventures. I understand all of the new features on the MA2 and this is all good. My question to you is: In your opinion, will I be disappointed about the video and picture quality after using the M2P for so long, as it never disappoints me ?
Hey Milton. I have the M2P and have only been using the Mavic Air 2 since its release and noto been disappointed. If you do plenty of stills, or make use of the variable apperture, then the 2 Pro is still ahead; otherwise now we have fine gimbal adjustments, the MA2 is pretty much as good. However it's a fair bit of money for no better camera and a 400 gram weight reduction.... Your call... :)
Ian in London thanks so much. Yes I do use the variable aperture for each shot. In my opinion, that feature alone creates my own manual control of all my shots with the M2P. It reduces the time involved for editing. I don’t need to tell you how useful it is, since you also own the M2P! Yet, Are you saying that you think the camera on the Air 2 is as good as the MP2? If this proves to be true then, of course I will eventually purchase the Air2, as I really want to take advantage of the smaller size for cycling and such, without sacrificing too much quality. @@mstuartkendall The MA2 camera is a smaller sensor so imho cannot be as good as the M2Pro; it depends on what you want. If it's best-in-class stills, the 2Pro wins. If it's glorious video, both are pretty much as good as each other.
Hi Ian. Just taken delivery of the Mavic Air 2 and I have spent most of the day getting to know it. Charged battery and RC so that is all good. I have done the latest firmware update and that all seems to be ok also apart from a difference in the photo menu compared to yours. I have the option for Jpeg & Jpeg+RAW but it seems that there is no option for just RAW. Am I missing something? Thanks
Any chance that the digital zoom can be programmed into the function button like the auxiliary light and the gimbal because I found it quite difficult to press and hold while scrolling and also maneuvering the drone
I haven't filmed anything on the hypelapse yet, but the it already did 8K in hyperlapse; now it also offers 4K whcih is much more useable..... I would defo be getting this drone now if I were you....
Would be nice when you say fly above trees, to some obvious, to other bubbles in the air not so obvious, so for the bubbles what would you say is a safe height to fly? myself normal altitude 2ooft set distance off
Hi Ian, would you be able to point me in right direction? Appreciate your vids and know sincerity. I crashed my visuo xs818 and ended up changing 1 motor. Hadn't used a soldering iron since tech school. All was well before and did decent job on soldering. Drone appeared to be taking off, cept for one propeller. Now, all 4 motors working but can't take off. I've tried recalibrate. Love my drone. Any help appreciated bro. Bono
Aw fella, sorry to hear...One thought; props go in alternate directions (two clockwise; two anti-clockwise). When you replaced the motor, did you replace it to ensure the right spin direction of the props?

Most people on here want talking and the scenic vids generally do very poorly, but that's probably due to the channel being aimed at people wanting tutorials and guidance... What's your thoughts?

Hi there.. My Mavic Air 2 won't go over 40km/hr (25mph), even when in sports mode. It doesn't matter whether I'm going with or against the wind... 40kmh/25Mph is the fastest I've got it to go in sports mode. It has the latest firmware. Any idea what it could be? Would changing gimbal settings affect the flight speed at all? I'm clueless on this one.
Yes, but I've found this almost impossible to action as I have one finger on the left stick and one on the right.... But occasionally you can make use of it!

I was sceptical about watching another update video as the early ones just tell you the same old thing that you can read up yourself. So it was nice that you added another dimension. I've been debating the 4k/2.7k conundrum. I thought at one point you going to say if you are going to be creative with the zoom film in 2.7k as that will give greatest flexibility. What is the trade off? I don't mean just visually let's get nerdy and take into consideration, storage, the hardware you edit on, RUclips, displays (even MacBook Pro isn't 4k), the crop sensor. I think a video like would be really useful as not everyone can afford high end stuff and it puts people off. When really we should be encouraging as many people as possible. I think you said in an early MA2 video there's no better time to be drone flying. I'd encourage anyone who loves any type of photography to try it. What's the deal flying abroad with the MA2? I guess disgusting it as a Mavic Mini isn't an option?
I only shoot in 4K to allow cropping. Otherwise 2.7 is more than enough for most every day filming and will still look great on large TVs. Remember Blu-ray is only 1080 and that is classed as High Def! Flying abroad is same as here; check rules; usually stay under 400 ft and away from towns and cities....
My Mavic Air 2 firmware is up to date, but when I press Fn button and roll the gimbal wheel left or right but camera zoom won’t work. Can you give me an advise? Thanks
You also didn't mention that you probably know now you can get that smooth zoom not only with the function button and the wheel but you can also get it if you press your finger on the one time zoom leave it there and drag up and down you get the same effect.. ;)

Have DJI updated the minimum yaw rotation speed (even in Cinemode)? My minimum is now 20 which is too fast IMO

Some great new options indeed. FN & Gimbal wheel means dolly zoom affect :) DJI need an update to stop Teddy chasing the drone on take off :)

Yes. It's getting hard to control everything now.... You see why the top end drones have a flyer and a separate camera operator.....

The zooming at 12:23 was my first attempt, which didn't go too well.... Will keep trying and report back :)

Because there's no side sensors, so it's a way of reducing risk. But of course pretty pointless....
Hi Ian ,, Ian ,, as radio ham , my drone has the antennas showing and the phone at the rear ,,
your phone is forward , cant see antennas unless the phone holder is part of the antenna , the phone has a processor , and in my head the processor is resting on the antenna ,, struggling as radio ham of the RF of antenna and the processer of phone interfering of the antenna

Yes; this is a paradox of the new remote controller for the Air 2. Previous models had the antennae unobscured and flexible to adjust their direction. The new remtoe has them incorporated and places the phone in the way. That said, the reception is always rock-solid....

Also not mentioned the way point flight program has increased in way point you now can program 40+ way points for the drone & save them for next time..
side note! android uk/europe are ok to update.. however I've a iPad & no updates are shown, for the latest OR the previous update, this has also been mentioned via afew other ppl

Thanks for the great update information. I currently have the M2P and is happy with it and intend to keep it. Yet, I have been on the fence about purchasing the MA2 due to its size so I can more easily carry it on cycling adventures. I understand all of the new features on the MA2 and this is all good. My question to you is: In your opinion, will I be disappointed about the video and picture quality after using the M2P for so long, as it never disappoints me ?
Hey Milton. I have the M2P and have only been using the Mavic Air 2 since its release and noto been disappointed. If you do plenty of stills, or make use of the variable apperture, then the 2 Pro is still ahead; otherwise now we have fine gimbal adjustments, the MA2 is pretty much as good. However it's a fair bit of money for no better camera and a 400 gram weight reduction.... Your call... :)
Ian in London thanks so much. Yes I do use the variable aperture for each shot. In my opinion, that feature alone creates my own manual control of all my shots with the M2P. It reduces the time involved for editing. I don’t need to tell you how useful it is, since you also own the M2P! Yet, Are you saying that you think the camera on the Air 2 is as good as the MP2? If this proves to be true then, of course I will eventually purchase the Air2, as I really want to take advantage of the smaller size for cycling and such, without sacrificing too much quality. Thanks again sir!
@@mstuartkendall The MA2 camera is a smaller sensor so imho cannot be as good as the M2Pro; it depends on what you want. If it's best-in-class stills, the 2Pro wins. If it's glorious video, both are pretty much as good as each other.

Hi Ian. Just taken delivery of the Mavic Air 2 and I have spent most of the day getting to know it. Charged battery and RC so that is all good. I have done the latest firmware update and that all seems to be ok also apart from a difference in the photo menu compared to yours. I have the option for Jpeg & Jpeg+RAW but it seems that there is no option for just RAW. Am I missing something? Thanks
Raw only isn't an option on any of the Mavics. Have you watched my complete set up guide for the Air 2? 👍🏻

Any chance that the digital zoom can be programmed into the function button like the auxiliary light and the gimbal because I found it quite difficult to press and hold while scrolling and also maneuvering the drone
Not as far as I can tell; it's tap the screen or use the FN + Gimbal wheel..

I haven't filmed anything on the hypelapse yet, but the it already did 8K in hyperlapse; now it also offers 4K whcih is much more useable..... I would defo be getting this drone now if I were you....

Would be nice when you say fly above trees, to some obvious, to other bubbles in the air not so obvious, so for the bubbles what would you say is a safe height to fly? myself normal altitude 2ooft set distance off

Hi Ian, would you be able to point me in right direction? Appreciate your vids and know sincerity. I crashed my visuo xs818 and ended up changing 1 motor. Hadn't used a soldering iron since tech school. All was well before and did decent job on soldering. Drone appeared to be taking off, cept for one propeller. Now, all 4 motors working but can't take off. I've tried recalibrate. Love my drone. Any help appreciated bro. Bono

Aw fella, sorry to hear...One thought; props go in alternate directions (two clockwise; two anti-clockwise). When you replaced the motor, did you replace it to ensure the right spin direction of the props?

Hi Steven. Thanks for the good words. I am thinking abotu setting up a sibling channel for longer scenic vids withoiut talking for those who just want to sit back and enjoy the view.... Most people on here want talking and the scenic vids generally do very poorly, but that's probably due to the channel being aimed at people wanting tutorials and guidance... What's your thoughts?
Ian thank you for replying to my comment, I've been thinking about the possibility of you setting up another RUclips channel, for me you have all the skills to make it work and possibly a great success, the channel you have is a hit with your subscribers so another one would probably be the same, looking at your reviews over the past 126 videos you have captured some great locations, the cinematic videos I've captured are amateurish compared to yours Ian, if you decide to put one out let your subscribers help you to make your decision, anyway whatever you decide to do ill be watching.

Hi there.. My Mavic Air 2 won't go over 40km/hr (25mph), even when in sports mode. It doesn't matter whether I'm going with or against the wind... 40kmh/25Mph is the fastest I've got it to go in sports mode. It has the latest firmware. Any idea what it could be? Would changing gimbal settings affect the flight speed at all? I'm clueless on this one.
Read where you can move gimbal left or right by pressing on the screen (left, right, up, down). Your opinion please.
Yes, but I've found this almost impossible to action as I have one finger on the left stick and one on the right.... But occasionally you can make use of it!

I was sceptical about watching another update video as the early ones just tell you the same old thing that you can read up yourself. So it was nice that you added another dimension.
I've been debating the 4k/2.7k conundrum. I thought at one point you going to say if you are going to be creative with the zoom film in 2.7k as that will give greatest flexibility.
What is the trade off?
I don't mean just visually let's get nerdy and take into consideration, storage, the hardware you edit on, RUclips, displays (even MacBook Pro isn't 4k), the crop sensor.
I think a video like would be really useful as not everyone can afford high end stuff and it puts people off. When really we should be encouraging as many people as possible.
I think you said in an early MA2 video there's no better time to be drone flying. I'd encourage anyone who loves any type of photography to try it.
What's the deal flying abroad with the MA2? I guess disgusting it as a Mavic Mini isn't an option?
I only shoot in 4K to allow cropping. Otherwise 2.7 is more than enough for most every day filming and will still look great on large TVs. Remember Blu-ray is only 1080 and that is classed as High Def! Flying abroad is same as here; check rules; usually stay under 400 ft and away from towns and cities....

My Mavic Air 2 firmware is up to date, but when I press Fn button and roll the gimbal wheel left or right but camera zoom won’t work. Can you give me an advise? Thanks
Try reinstalling the firmware using the DJI assistant 2 for Mavic program.

You also didn't mention that you probably know now you can get that smooth zoom not only with the function button and the wheel but you can also get it if you press your finger on the one time zoom leave it there and drag up and down you get the same effect..

Not really as the hyperlapse sets the camera angles automatically...
Anyone got any idea how to save waypoints? So I can do a hyper lapse switching from summer to winter?
I updated my firmware and I don’t have access to any of these features.
